How to Print & Display

Everything you need to get posters up in your community. No design skills required.

What you'll need

Basic setup

  • Home printer (color, inkjet or laser)
  • Standard letter paper (8.5" x 11")
  • Clear packing tape or wheat paste
  • Scissors (optional)

Upgraded setup

  • Cardstock or heavy-weight paper (80 lb+)
  • Tabloid paper (11" x 17") for larger prints
  • Laminating sheets (for outdoor use)
  • Staple gun (for telephone poles, where legal)

Pro setup

  • Local print shop (FedEx, Staples, etc.)
  • Large format prints (18" x 24" or bigger)
  • Foam board or corrugated plastic for yard signs
  • Wire stakes for yard display

Step by step

1. Download your poster

Go to the poster gallery, find your representative, and download the PDF.

2. Print settings

Set your printer to "Actual Size" (not "Fit to Page"). Use color mode. For best results, choose "High Quality" in print settings.

3. Choose your display method

Tape to windows, pin to community boards, hang on telephone poles (check local laws), or display in your yard.

4. Share a photo

Take a picture of your poster in the wild and share it with #ButWhatCanYouDo to inspire others.

Where to display

High-traffic, high-visibility locations work best. Always check local regulations about posting in public spaces.

  • Community bulletin boards (coffee shops, libraries, laundromats)
  • Your own front yard or windows
  • Car windows or bumpers
  • College campuses (check posting policies)
  • Shared workspaces and break rooms
  • Telephone poles and construction fences (where legal)
  • Local businesses that will let you hang one in the window
