How this mark works
We track key votes on sending U.S. weapons and money to the government of Israel. A check means every tracked vote they cast came down against sending more, on the side of peace and de-escalation. A question mark means a mixed record: they sided with sending up to half of the time. An X means they voted to send more weapons and money in over half of their tracked votes, even as the way those weapons and dollars were being used became more and more obvious. Angela Gonzales-Torres, a community organizer and former Historic Highland Park Neighborhood Council president, is challenging incumbent Jimmy Gomez in CA-34 with Justice Democrats' endorsement. Her campaign's Pro-Peace Foreign Policy page, paid for by her campaign and written in the third person, says: "One of the most horrifying atrocities actively happening right now is the genocide in Gaza that the Israeli military is only able to commit with the financial and political support of the US government." It says she "will fight for an immediate arms embargo, ceasefire, and a massive influx of humanitarian aid to end this genocide", supports enforcing the Leahy Laws, and "will support the Ceasefire Now Resolution (H.Res. 786) and the Block the Bombs Act in Congress, and will never vote to send weapons to the Israeli military." Under "No exceptions" it adds: "No country committing human rights violations should be receiving U.S. aid — from Saudi Arabia to Israel, there should be no exceptions." In a March 2026 candidate interview with The Occidental she called for ending U.S. weapons funding for foreign conflicts and investing that revenue in housing, healthcare, and economic opportunity at home.
On the conflict: her campaign petition describes her as "a proud advocate for Palestinian liberation and an outspoken opponent of US complicity in the war on Gaza." The Los Angeles Times reported in September 2025 that she characterized Israel's military operation in Gaza as a genocide. The New Arab reported in October 2025 that she took part in a pro-Palestinian campus encampment before launching her campaign.
On lobbying money: in a Justice Democrats endorsement video she said "I am not taking a dime from AIPAC," per Semafor, and her campaign runs a donation page named "Angela rejects AIPAC." That is a pledge about campaign money, not by itself a position on weapons or funding; her weapons position is the platform language above. The LA Reporter documented her criticism of Gomez over AIPAC support.
