Christina Bohannan
Pressed by activists in 2024 to back an arms embargo on Israel, Bohannan declined, saying she had to represent everyone in her district; organizers who met her reported she was not agreeable to ending military aid. Her current priorities page does not reach the subject.
Bohannan is the Democratic nominee in Iowa’s 1st District, a former state representative and law professor making her third run at the seat.
Her on-record moments come from the 2024 campaign. At a September 2024 meet-and-greet, pro-Palestinian activists interrupted her speech urging a ceasefire and an arms embargo on Israel; the Daily Iowan reported that she responded that, as a representative of everyone in the district, she had to work hard to represent everyone who lived there, promised to take their views to Washington, and left early. Days later, organizers who met with her told Quad Cities public radio that she and other Democrats "were not agreeable to ending military aid to Israel", the coalition’s account of a private meeting, carried as that.
After the October 2023 attack she posted support for Israel’s right to defend itself; those posts are on the research page. She has carried J Street’s endorsement and appeared on Democratic Majority for Israel’s 2024 endorsement slate, endorsements from organizations on different sides of the aid-conditions argument, each listed on the research page as the endorser’s act, from the 2024 cycle.
