But What Can You Do? tracks where 2026 candidates stand on U.S. weapons and funding for the government of Israel. How we check

How this mark works
We track key votes on sending U.S. weapons and money to the government of Israel. A check means every tracked vote they cast came down against sending more, on the side of peace and de-escalation. A question mark means a mixed record: they sided with sending up to half of the time. An X means they voted to send more weapons and money in over half of their tracked votes, even as the way those weapons and dollars were being used became more and more obvious. At exactly half, money this election cycle from a lobbying group we track, or an endorsement from a group that backs sending weapons, makes it an X. Only votes actually cast are counted. Where a candidate has no recorded votes on these bills, the mark comes instead from a reviewed reading of their public record (money from the lobbying groups we track, endorsements, and their own words since January 26, 2024). There an X also covers fully backing the conduct of the war by the government of Israel without significant reservations, and a question mark also covers speaking about Israel without saying clearly where they stand on U.S. weapons and funding. A dash means No Position Found: we found nothing in their own words about Israel, Gaza or the war.

The same page separates her fundraising from that position, and so does this card. She writes that she takes no corporate political action committee money and describes the incumbent as having "substantial support from pro-Israel PACs like AIPAC". A pledge about who funds a campaign is not by itself a position on what the United States sends, which is why the two are kept apart here.
The rest of the page argues for diplomacy over military strength, for rejoining international bodies including the United Nations and the World Health Organization, and for restoring congressional war powers so that Congress votes before troops are committed. Nothing located has her addressing U.S. humanitarian funding for Palestinians as a separate question.

Research log
The notes behind this card: what we looked at, what we found, and where each item came from.
U.S. military aid and weapons to Israel
[Position, read 2026-08-20] Her campaign's foreign policy page lists among "Lauren's Priorities in Congress": "Oppose sending U.S. military aid, weapons, and tax dollars to fund foreign conflicts and violence like we see in Gaza and instead redirect our domestic taxpayer funds toward the basic needs of children and people at home". Opened and confirmed word for word. The page carries no publication date, so it is banded to the day it was read, which is the standing treatment for a live platform page.
⚠ The plank names Gaza and the flow it would stop. It does not name the government of Israel as the recipient of the weapons, and nothing on the card supplies that name for her.
⚠ **Our search reported this dimension as empty.** The summary supplied for this candidate said that no personal statement on U.S. military aid or weapons transfers was located. That is wrong: the position is on her own campaign site, under a heading called Foreign Policy and International Diplomacy, in her own platform's words. The site was reached by one search and one visit. Recorded here because a card written from the summary alone would have told voters silence where there is speech.
Same page, same reading: "Support restoring war powers oversights to make sure Congress votes before we get involved in forever wars."
U.S. aid to Palestinians
Nothing located as a distinct position. The platform plank above would redirect "tax dollars" away from funding conflict rather than toward or away from humanitarian assistance, and it is not read here as an aid position either way.
Characterization of the conflict
[Position, read 2026-08-20] The foreign policy page frames war through what it calls a disability justice lens and says the country "must lead in protecting civilians from disasters of war, ethnic and religious hatred, and human rights abuses". Confirmed word for word. Gaza is named in the plank quoted above; no separate characterization of the conflict's nature was located.
[Position, 2025-10-10, unread carrier] A World Mental Health Day post is reported to have referenced "places like Gaza, Sudan, Congo, and Ukraine" and said that "just like food, water, and medicine, mental health is essential for survivors to rebuild their lives". The address offered for it, https://www.facebook.com/DrTedros.Official/posts/wars-and-outbreaks-end-eventuallywounds-healhomes-are-rebuiltbut-the-mental-heal/1393385655490080/, is the World Health Organization Director-General's page, not hers, and Facebook returns 400 to requests. Treated as unread and wrongly addressed; nothing is claimed from it.
Related rhetoric and lobbying
[Position, read 2026-08-20] Her foreign policy page says: "Lauren's foreign policy isn't for sale. She takes no corporate PAC money, including the lobbying money that shapes so many Washington votes. The incumbent has built a career on it: deep ties to fossil fuel interests that profit off Gulf drilling policy, and substantial support from pro-Israel PACs like AIPAC." Confirmed word for word. Recorded as a fundraising pledge plus a claim about the incumbent, deliberately not written up as a weapons or funding position.
[Position, 2026-08-10, unread carriers] Campaign posts are reported to have described the incumbent as an "AIPAC backed candidate" and to have carried a longer statement beginning "We have made a commitment from the outset of our campaign that we aren't taking money from AIPAC or any corporate PACs". The addresses offered, https://www.facebook.com/electlaurenjewett/photos/1081565901229103/ and https://www.facebook.com/electlaurenjewett/posts/kinda-chic-to-kick-steve-scalise-out-of-office-this-year-/1081566221229071/, are her own campaign page and both return 400 to requests. Written out here rather than linked, and no wording from them is quoted anywhere. The substance is in any case stated on her own site, which does open, and the card uses that instead.
[Consulted, read 2026-08-20] The New Orleans Democratic Socialists of America newsletter endorses her. ⚠ The same newsletter separately describes the chapter's own partnership with the Palestinian Youth Movement and a canvass urging shops to join a boycott. That is the organization's activity, not hers, and it is not attributed to her here or on the card.
Safety and antisemitism (context)
Nothing located. No statement addressing antisemitism was found under her name.
