But What Can You Do? tracks where 2026 candidates stand on U.S. weapons and funding for the government of Israel. How we check
Andy Maidment
Libertarian · U.S. House, Missouri District 6
–No Position Found
How this mark works
We track key votes on sending U.S. weapons and money to the government of Israel. A check means every tracked vote they cast came down against sending more, on the side of peace and de-escalation. A question mark means a mixed record: they sided with sending up to half of the time. An X means they voted to send more weapons and money in over half of their tracked votes, even as the way those weapons and dollars were being used became more and more obvious. At exactly half, money this election cycle from a lobbying group we track, or an endorsement from a group that backs sending weapons, makes it an X. Only votes actually cast are counted. Where a candidate has no recorded votes on these bills, the mark comes instead from a reviewed reading of their public record (money from the lobbying groups we track, endorsements, and their own words since January 26, 2024). There an X also covers fully backing the conduct of the war by the government of Israel without significant reservations, and a question mark also covers speaking about Israel without saying clearly where they stand on U.S. weapons and funding. A dash means No Position Found: we found nothing in their own words about Israel, Gaza or the war.
No recorded votes on the bills we track. We found nothing in their own words about Israel, Gaza or the war.
Maidment has not stated a position on U.S. weapons or money for the government of Israel, or on U.S. aid to Palestinians. In a 2022 questionnaire, before the current war, he wrote: "The United States need not be involved in this conflict." Ask him where he stands now.

Maidment is the Libertarian candidate for Missouri's 6th District.
The one substantive thing on his record predates the war. In a November 2022 iVoterGuide questionnaire, asked whether he supported the boycott, divestment and sanctions movement, he answered "Neutral" and added: "As someone of partial Arab ethnicity I am sympathetic to Palestinian independence. The United States need not be involved in this conflict. We usually just make things worse." On the same form he chose, from a set of options on America's world role, that "the United States has become too involved in others' policies and should remain focused on issues regarding our own sovereignty unless in imminent danger."
That is a general non-interventionist position stated before October 2023, and it says nothing about the weapons and funding the United States has sent since. In 2024, KCUR's voter guide reported that he wants to end what he calls the United States’ “permanent presence in the Middle East,” which he says only causes more anger and grief; it does not mention the government of Israel, Gaza or aid.
He was asked directly on the 2026 iVoterGuide form whether the U.S. relationship with Israel is important, and did not answer. It is worth being precise about that: he did not answer any of the thirty-six questions on that form, so declining this one says nothing in particular about this subject.
He has no federal voting record.
You are better placed to get the answer than we are. Ask him directly, or at a candidate forum, and send us the reply: it goes on this page in his own words.

“As someone of partial Arab ethnicity I am sympathetic to Palestinian independence. The United States need not be involved in this conflict. We usually just make things worse.”
The notes behind this card: what we looked at, what we found, and where each item came from.
U.S. military aid and weapons to Israel
No position located on U.S. weapons transfers or funding to the government of Israel, and none on conditioning assistance.
[Prior, 2022; the form is for the November 8, 2022 general election and does not show the day he answered] iVoterGuide questionnaire for the 2022 general election. Answering the statement "I support the Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions (BDS) movement to pressure Israel to withdraw from occupied territories, remove the separation barrier in the West Bank, allow full equality for Arab-Palestinian citizens of Israel, and promote the rights of Palestinian refugees.", he selected **Neutral** and wrote: "As someone of partial Arab ethnicity I am sympathetic to Palestinian independence. The United States need not be involved in this conflict. We usually just make things worse." Also on that form, on America's role in the world, he selected: "The United States has become too involved in others' policies and should remain focused on issues regarding our own sovereignty unless in imminent danger." **Before 2023-10-07, so prior band**, and it is a general position rather than one about current U.S. assistance.
[Position, 2024-08-12; general, not about Israel] KCUR's 2024 voter guide for this district, in its own summary of his positions: "He also wants to end what he calls the United States’ “permanent presence in the Middle East,” which he says only causes more anger and grief." The quoted phrase is his; the rest is the guide's. It names no country and says nothing about weapons or aid to the government of Israel.
[2026 form, no answer] On the 2026 iVoterGuide form, opened, the question "Is the United States' relationship with Israel important, and if so why?" reads "Did not answer." **Under the questionnaire test this is not evidence: he answered none of the thirty-six questions on that form** (36 of 36 read "Did not answer"), whereas on the 2022 form he answered every one. A blanket non-response carries no information about this subject in particular, and the card says so rather than treating silence as a stance.
He has no federal voting record.
U.S. aid to Palestinians
No statement or documented position located. The 2022 answer expresses sympathy for Palestinian independence, which is not a position on U.S. aid.
Characterization of the conflict
[Prior, 2022] "As someone of partial Arab ethnicity I am sympathetic to Palestinian independence" (the 2022 form, above). Prior band. Nothing located since October 2023.
