Debra Haaland
Deb Haaland (D) — former U.S. Representative for New Mexico's 1st District (Jan. 3, 2019 – March 16, 2021) and U.S. Secretary of the Interior (2021–2025) — is the Democratic nominee for New Mexico governor in the Nov. 3, 2026 open-seat race after winning the June 2, 2026 primary. Despite a reputation as a progressive, her actual in-scope federal record is that of a mainstream pro-Israel House Democrat: on July 23, 2019 she voted Yea on H.Res.246 opposing the boycott-divestment-sanctions (Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions) movement and efforts to delegitimize Israel (passed 398–17), and on Dec. 6, 2019 she voted Yea on H.Res.326 endorsing a negotiated two-state solution and opposing unilateral Israeli annexation of the West Bank (passed 226–188). In an April 2020 joint statement she described herself, with ten other members, as one of the 'strong supporters of Israel and the United States-Israel relationship' while opposing West Bank annexation. As of July 24, 2026, no located dated statement by Haaland — in Congress, at Interior, or as a 2026 gubernatorial candidate — calls for conditioning, cutting, or restricting U.S. weapons or aid to Israel, and no located record shows her voting on the Sept. 2021 Iron Dome supplemental (she had left the House by then). Her 2026 campaign is focused on state issues, not Israel policy.
