Bob Brooks

Brooks has taken no public position on U.S. weapons or money for the government of Israel. At an April 2026 primary debate he said Israel has the right to defend itself and that "We need to concentrate more on the humanitarian aid that needs to get into Gaza."

Brooks is the Democratic nominee in Pennsylvania's 7th District, a retired Bethlehem firefighter and former president of the state firefighters' union, running against Rep. Ryan Mackenzie.

At the Democratic candidates' debate at Moravian University on April 1, 2026, Armchair Lehigh Valley reported that Brooks called the Oct. 7 attack horrible and said Israel has the right to defend itself, then added: "We need to concentrate more on the humanitarian aid that needs to get into Gaza. And that’s just not being done." He also said Israel needs to follow international law and be held accountable. He did not say what he would do about U.S. weapons or funding for the government of Israel, and nothing located since has him addressing that question.

On the second anniversary of the Oct. 7 attacks he posted on X, as Jewish Insider reported: "I’m thinking of those who were killed and those still waiting to come home. We must end this war and suffering in Gaza, bring the hostages home, and work toward peace." The same report noted he had not spoken out extensively on foreign policy, and his platform page, read on September 3, 2026, does not mention Israel, Gaza, Palestinians or foreign aid. JStreetPAC lists him as endorsed; its page carries no statement from him.

After the Hanukkah attack in Sydney in December 2025 he wrote on X, "We’ve got to call out antisemitism wherever and whenever we see it." U.S. military aid and weapons to Israel

• Nothing located has Brooks stating a position on U.S. weapons, arms sales or military funding for the government of Israel. Both searches (2026-08-11 and 2026-09-03) found nothing on this on this dimension. His platform page (read 2026-09-03, 2,575 words retrieved) has no plank on Israel, Gaza or foreign aid. His Ballotpedia page (read 2026-09-03) carries a completed 2025 Candidate Connection survey and long extracts from his campaign site; none of it touches these questions.
• [Position, 2026-04-01] The closest he has come is at the April 1, 2026 primary debate (below): "Israel has the right to defend itself" as reported speech, with no statement on what the United States should send.
• [Position, 2025-12-17] Jewish Insider, in a report on his endorsements: "Brooks hasn’t spoken out extensively on his foreign policy views." The same article says the foreign policy plank of his site focused on Ukraine, China and Iran; that is not this project's topic and was not checked further.

U.S. aid to Palestinians

• [Position, 2026-04-01 (debate held Wednesday; the report was published 2026-04-02)] Democratic primary debate at Moravian University's Foy Hall, Bethlehem, reported by Armchair Lehigh Valley (Katherine Reinhard and Margie Peterson). Under the heading "On continued U.S. support for Israel", the report has Brooks saying the Oct. 7 attack was horrible and that Israel has the right to defend itself, then: "We need to concentrate more on the humanitarian aid that needs to get into Gaza. And that’s just not being done." It adds that he said Israel needs to follow international law and needs to be held accountable. This is a statement about humanitarian aid reaching Gaza, not about U.S. funding specifically; he did not say who should supply or fund it. Verified verbatim on 2026-09-03 against the page text. The same report records Ryan Crosswell's answer on the same question; nothing of Crosswell's is attributed to Brooks here.

It characterizes the Oct. 7, 2025 post in its own terms (that he "refers to the genocide as a 'war'", that he "never actually once" mentions Palestinians) and says that "according to JDCA’s website" he supports "Israel's right to exist as a Jewish and democratic state and a two-state solution". Those are the page's words and a second-hand description of a third organization's page (https://djop.org/candidate/bob-brooks/ and the JDCA site were not retrieved). Related rhetoric and lobbying

• [Undated; read 2026-09-03] JStreetPAC lists him as "Endorsed" for PA-7 and lists three 2026 fundraising events. The page's description of him is J Street's own copy about his firefighting career; it carries no statement from him on aid, weapons or the conflict. The August search called this a "primary approved" designation; the page as read on 2026-09-03 says "Endorsed". An endorsement is not a position and is not written as one.
• [Position, 2025-12-17] Jewish Insider reports endorsements from Gov. Josh Shapiro, Sen. Bernie Sanders and Rep. Ro Khanna, and quotes Brooks on Shapiro's work with firefighters. Nothing in his quoted words there concerns this topic.

Safety and antisemitism (context)

• [Position, 2025-12-14] After the Brown University shooting and the Hanukkah attack at Bondi Beach, Sydney, Brooks posted on X at 9:32 a.m., per the Washington Free Beacon (published 2025-12-15, updated 2025-12-16): "2 killed in Providence. 11 killed in Sydney. Deeply tragic, and it didn’t have to happen. Sensible gun safety laws save lives. Holding the Brown University community and the Jewish community in Sydney in my thoughts today." At 10:11 a.m. he deleted it and posted a version about Brown only: "2 killed and 9 injured in Providence. Deeply tragic — and it didn’t have to happen. Sensible gun safety laws save lives. Holding the Brown University community in my thoughts today." The Free Beacon says he "issued another statement after the Free Beacon reached out" and another after its story was published. JNS (2025-12-17) says he made a separate post about the Sydney attack at 4:41 p.m.

Not on the card, and why

• The Reverse Canary Mission characterizations: a hostile activist page speaking about the candidate, and a second-hand description of another organization's site. Research page only, as third-party speech about him.
• The J Street endorsement as a position: an endorsement by a third party is a fact about the organization, not a statement by him. Named on the card as a listing, not as a stance.
• The Dec. 14, 2025 post sequence and the Free Beacon's framing: safety and antisemitism material is context, not the answer to what America sends; one of his own sentences is quoted in the deep dive and the sequence lives here.
• The Iran and gas-prices remark: a different topic.
