How this mark works

We track key votes on sending U.S. weapons and money to the government of Israel. A check means every tracked vote they cast came down against sending more, on the side of peace and de-escalation. A question mark means a mixed record: they sided with sending up to half of the time. An X means they voted to send more weapons and money in over half of their tracked votes, even as the way those weapons and dollars were being used became more and more obvious. At exactly half, money this election cycle from a lobbying group we track, or an endorsement from a group that backs sending weapons, makes it an X. Only votes actually cast are counted. Where a candidate has no recorded votes on these bills, the mark comes instead from a reviewed reading of their public record (money from the lobbying groups we track, endorsements, and their own words since January 26, 2024). Dittmer is the Democratic nominee in South Carolina’s 5th District.

Our research found a substantive platform attributed to her: that U.S. tax dollars supported an “unjustifiable, humanitarian crisis in Gaza”, that both administrations failed to hold Prime Minister Netanyahu accountable to U.S. and international law, that “Israel has the right to defend itself, but they do not have the right to commit human rights violations”, and a pledge not to “take money or entertain interests from AIPAC, or any other organization acting on behalf of the state of Israel”, plus a commitment to “combat antisemitism, islamophobia, and hate”. Every one of those passages comes from sources we could not read directly, an aggregator this site does not cite and her own Facebook posts, so none is treated here as verified.

Her own campaign site was checked directly: the priorities pages, including national security, contain no Israel, Gaza, AIPAC, Netanyahu, or antisemitism content. If her posts carry these positions, send them in: they go on this page in her own words.
