In March 2024, after dozens of his campaign signs were sprayed with the words "Genocide" and "Free Palestine", he issued a statement that Must Read Alaska carried in full. It puts a condition on aid reaching Palestinians: "The war will end and Palestinians will receive aid when the Hamas terrorists surrender and release their hostages, eight of which are American citizens." The same statement closes: "I remain steadfast in my support for Israel to defend itself, and reject any expression of antisemitism." - [Earlier record, 2021-09-29 to 2021-10-01] At Anchorage Assembly hearings on a mask mandate, protesters wore yellow Stars of David, and he defended the practice. After objections from local Jewish leaders he apologised, telling the Assembly, as The Independent reported: "I understand that we should not trivialise or compare what happened during the Holocaust to a mask mandate, and I want to apologise for any perception that my statements support or compare what happened to the Jewish people in Nazi Germany."
