But What Can You Do? tracks where 2026 candidates stand on U.S. weapons and funding for the government of Israel. How we check

Jay Feely

Republican · U.S. House, Arizona District 1
✗From an endorsement
How this mark works

We track key votes on sending U.S. weapons and money to the government of Israel. A check means every tracked vote they cast came down against sending more, on the side of peace and de-escalation. A question mark means a mixed record: they sided with sending up to half of the time. An X means they voted to send more weapons and money in over half of their tracked votes, even as the way those weapons and dollars were being used became more and more obvious. At exactly half, money this election cycle from a lobbying group we track, or an endorsement from a group that backs sending weapons, makes it an X. Only votes actually cast are counted. Where a candidate has no recorded votes on these bills, the mark comes instead from a reviewed reading of their public record (money from the lobbying groups we track, endorsements, and their own words since January 26, 2024). There an X also covers fully backing the conduct of the war by the government of Israel without significant reservations, and a question mark also covers speaking about Israel without saying clearly where they stand on U.S. weapons and funding. A dash means No Position Found: we found nothing in their own words about Israel, Gaza or the war.

See a dash? Ask the candidate where they stand, then send us their answer and we'll review it and update the mark. Or volunteer to help review candidates.

No recorded votes on the bills we track. Endorsed by Republican Jewish Coalition.

Feely has not said what he would do about U.S. weapons or money for the government of Israel, or about U.S. aid to Palestinians. His platform pledges to “stand unapologetically with Israel” and says that support “has been dangerously weakened” under Biden.

Deep Dive

Feely is the Republican nominee in Arizona’s 1st District, a former NFL kicker and CBS Sports analyst who won the July 21, 2026 primary and faces Democrat Amish Shah in November.

His issues page, read on September 3, 2026, carries a plank titled “Standing with Israel & Fighting Antisemitism.” It says: “In Congress, I will stand unapologetically with Israel and fight to strengthen the U.S.-Israel relationship.” It goes on: “Under President Trump, America stood with Israel. Under Biden, that support has been dangerously weakened. I will work to help restore our commitment to our greatest ally in the middle east.” It also describes a visit to the region: “I’ve stood on the border of Gaza. I’ve seen the sniper walls Israel must use to protect innocent families from terrorist rockets. And I’ve seen firsthand the strength and resilience of our greatest ally in the Middle East.” The plank names no weapons transfer, funding level or condition, and nothing located has him addressing U.S. aid to Palestinians or Gaza at any date.

In early May 2026 he called a University of Michigan professor’s graduation remarks “disgusting”, as NJ.com reported; the professor had thanked pro-Palestinian student activists for “opening our hearts to the injustices and inhumanity of Israel's war in Gaza.” Feely and his wife attended the university.

He travelled to Israel in March 2023 with a delegation from Christians United for Israel, a Christian pro-Israel advocacy group, that accompanied a Jewish Agency flight of immigrants from Ukraine after visiting Auschwitz, and he discussed Israel on a May 2026 podcast that is listed, though we have not watched it, on the research page. If you can ask him what he would do about U.S. weapons and money for the government of Israel, send us the reply: it goes on this page in his own words.

Research log

The notes behind this card: what we looked at, what we found, and where each item came from.

Two searches were read as one lead list for this card, one run 2026-08-20 and one run 2026-09-03. Every page cited below was opened and read on 2026-09-03 unless marked otherwise. Bands: Position (2024-01-26 onward), Reaction window (2023-10-07 to 2024-01-25), Earlier record (before 2023-10-07), Undated.

U.S. military aid and weapons to Israel

  • Nothing located names a weapons transfer, arms package, funding level or condition. Both searches returned an explicit not-found verdict on this dimension.
  • [Position, read 2026-09-03] His campaign issues page (895 words retrieved), plank “Standing with Israel & Fighting Antisemitism”, in full: “I’ve stood on the border of Gaza. I’ve seen the sniper walls Israel must use to protect innocent families from terrorist rockets. And I’ve seen firsthand the strength and resilience of our greatest ally in the Middle East.” Then: “In Congress, I will stand unapologetically with Israel and fight to strengthen the U.S.-Israel relationship. That includes fighting antisemitism right here at home—especially on college campuses where Jewish students are being harassed and targeted simply for being who they are. We will make it clear: antisemitism has no place in America. Under President Trump, America stood with Israel. Under Biden, that support has been dangerously weakened. I will work to help restore our commitment to our greatest ally in the middle east.” His Ballotpedia page reproduces the same text from captures of his site dated April 30, 2026 and July 29, 2026, so the plank has stood unchanged since at least April 2026. “Support” and “commitment” are the plank's words; it does not say what they mean for weapons or money.
  • [Position, read 2026-09-03] His iVoterGuide profile records “Did not answer” to “Is the United States' relationship with Israel important, and if so why?” and to every other question on the form. That is a fact about the guide's coverage, not about him, and it is not used on the card.

U.S. aid to Palestinians

  • Nothing located at any date on UNRWA, Gaza humanitarian funding or the aid pipeline.

Characterization of the conflict

  • [Position, read 2026-09-03] The Gaza-border passage on his issues page, quoted above: sniper walls, “terrorist rockets”, “our greatest ally in the Middle East.”
  • [Position, 2026-05-06; the remarks were made the previous Sunday, 2026-05-03] NJ.com, read in Yahoo News's copy (254 words; nj.com itself could not be opened): Feely criticized University of Michigan professor Derek R. Peterson after Peterson thanked pro-Palestinian student activists during a graduation speech for “opening our hearts to the injustices and inhumanity of Israel's war in Gaza.” Feely called the remarks “disgusting” and said they were made at the college he and his wife attended. The Reverse Canary Mission page (below) adds that he also called them “repulsive” and points to the post at https://x.com/jayfeely/status/2051027069690372324; X does not render for us, so that wording is not verified.
  • [Position, 2026-05-12] “The Former NFL Star Running for Congress w/ Jay Feely”, a 43-minute video published 2026-05-12, is the Fifth Question podcast appearance both searches describe (host Rabbi Daniel Levine). Not watched. The searches say he discussed visiting Israeli communities near Gaza, Israel as a democracy facing hostile neighbors, divisions within the Republican Party over Israel including the views of Tucker Carlson and Candace Owens, and his visit to Auschwitz. Nothing is quoted from it.
  • [Reaction window, 2023-10-07] Movieguide (published 2023-10-23) reports that on October 7 he posted “Praying for Israel” on X. Not on the card summary.
  • [Reaction window, October 2023; no day given] The Reverse Canary Mission page says that after October 2023 he posted messages praying for Israel, expressing shock that it provides power and water to Gaza, and declaring that Israel has every right to defend itself. A third party's summary of posts we have not seen. Not on the card summary.

Related rhetoric and lobbying

  • [Earlier record, 2023-03-16] The Jerusalem Post: a Christians United for Israel delegation that included NFL players Shaun Alexander, Jay Feely, Nate Boyer and Nick Lowry accompanied a Jewish Agency flight of about 90 immigrants from Ukraine to Israel; before arriving, the delegation visited Auschwitz with a Yad Vashem representative and took part in a memorial ceremony in Krakow. Christians United for Israel is a Christian pro-Israel advocacy organization. Feely is not quoted in the report.
  • [Earlier record, 2023-04-07] His X post, reproduced on the Sports Spectrum podcast page: “2 weeks ago we were in Israel at what they believe is where Jesus was crucified and then buried in the tomb. We had a service and communion about 200yds away. Brings a different reality to Good Friday”.
  • [Reaction window, 2023-10-20 and 2023-10-23] The Sports Spectrum podcast page (2023-10-20) and Movieguide's write-up of it (2023-10-23) present the trip in terms of his faith; Movieguide quotes him: “It was on my bucket list and something I’ve always wanted to do was to go to Israel,”. The “one of the greatest trips of my life” wording that both searches attribute to this podcast is not in either page's text and may be in the audio; it is not quoted. Not on the card summary in any case.
  • [Position, 2026-06-17 as scheduled] Republican Jewish Coalition event page “Meet and Greet with Cong'l Candidate Jay Feely (AZ-1)”, Paradise Valley, 6 to 8 p.m.: the page, read 2026-09-03, says “This event has been cancelled.” The August search described this as an event he took part in; the page does not support that and the card does not say it. The Republican Jewish Coalition is a Jewish Republican advocacy group that endorses and hosts candidates.
  • [Undated; page last modified 2026-05-29] The Reverse Canary Mission profile is an activist page hostile to the candidate. It characterizes his trip, posts and remarks in its own terms and says he joined the “Hostages can’t speak. Sports speak up” campaign, for which it gives no source. Third-party speech about him: research page only. It was useful here for the addresses of two X posts (https://x.com/jayfeely/status/1644460189243035649 from April 2023 and the May 2026 post above), neither of which renders for us.
  • [Position, read 2026-09-03] The Jewish Democratic Council of America endorsements page, in its entry for his opponent, says Shah “will face Trump-backed Republican Jay Feely this November.” Nothing there concerns Feely's positions.
  • No tracked committee funding is recorded for him.

Safety and antisemitism (context)

  • [Position, read 2026-09-03] Issues page: “That includes fighting antisemitism right here at home—especially on college campuses where Jewish students are being harassed and targeted simply for being who they are. We will make it clear: antisemitism has no place in America.”
  • [Position, 2026-05-12] The podcast above is said to include his Auschwitz visit and Holocaust education; we have not watched it.
  • [Earlier record, March 2023] The Auschwitz visit with the delegation, per The Jerusalem Post above.

Not on the card, and why

  • The iVoterGuide questionnaire: a wall of “Did not answer” describes the guide, not the candidate.
  • The October 2023 posts: inside the reaction window, and read only through a hostile third party and a faith-media write-up; the posts themselves were not opened.
  • The Reverse Canary Mission characterizations: a hostile activist page speaking about him.
  • The Republican Jewish Coalition event: its own page says it was cancelled, so it is not written as something he did.
  • The podcast: not watched; nothing from it is quoted.
  • The “one of the greatest trips of my life” wording: not found in any retrieved text.
