But What Can You Do? tracks where 2026 candidates stand on U.S. weapons and funding for the government of Israel. How we check
David Redkey
How this mark works
We track key votes on sending U.S. weapons and money to the government of Israel. A check means every tracked vote they cast came down against sending more, on the side of peace and de-escalation. A question mark means a mixed record: they sided with sending up to half of the time. An X means they voted to send more weapons and money in over half of their tracked votes, even as the way those weapons and dollars were being used became more and more obvious. At exactly half, money this election cycle from a lobbying group we track, or an endorsement from a group that backs sending weapons, makes it an X. Only votes actually cast are counted. Where a candidate has no recorded votes on these bills, the mark comes instead from a reviewed reading of their public record (money from the lobbying groups we track, endorsements, and their own words since January 26, 2024). There an X also covers fully backing the conduct of the war by the government of Israel without significant reservations, and a question mark also covers speaking about Israel without saying clearly where they stand on U.S. weapons and funding. A dash means No Position Found: we found nothing in their own words about Israel, Gaza or the war.
See a dash? Ask the candidate where they stand, then send us their answer and we'll review it and update the mark. Or volunteer to help review candidates.
No recorded votes on the bills we track. In their own words on September 24, 2026.
Asked by a 2026 voter guide for his top ways to cut government waste, Redkey listed first: “Cut all funding to Israel.” His platform calls what is happening to Palestinians “a humanitarian catastrophe” and asks for an immediate and permanent ceasefire and full humanitarian access to Gaza.
The email has replies@butwhatcanyoudo.org in cc, so we can post their answer on their page in their own words; remove it if you prefer. Keep the subject line as it is, add your name, and send.
You asked David Redkey where they stand.
Deep Dive
David Redkey is the Green Party nominee in Arizona's 3rd District, the Phoenix seat Representative Yassamin Ansari holds. He describes himself as a certified teacher who has lived in Arizona for nearly four decades, and he runs on what he calls Foundation Economics, a domestic program of wages, schools and health care. He began this cycle as a candidate for the 1st District seat, then entered the Green primary here as a write-in and won it with five votes on July 21, 2026. He faces Ansari, Alan Aversa of the No Labels Party and Jacob Parkman, a Republican write-in, on November 3. The Arizona Green Party lists him as “actively opposed”. That does not concern what the United States sends to the government of Israel, and the reporting on it is set out on his research page.
What he wants done with American money is clearest in his answers to iVoterGuide's 2026 questionnaire, a voter guide that AFA Action publishes for faith-based voters. Asked to list his top priorities for eliminating government waste, he wrote first: “Cut all funding to Israel.” His second answer is higher taxes on the wealthy and his third is his health plan. Every question from the form's health care section onward is marked as not answered, including its foreign policy question and one asking “Is the United States' relationship with Israel important, and if so why?”
His platform's page headed Free Palestine sets out the rest. It opens: “I support a permanent ceasefire, the protection of civilians, and the full application of international law to all parties.” It says that what is happening to the Palestinian people is not a conflict between equals, and calls it “a humanitarian catastrophe marked by mass civilian casualties, collective punishment, forced displacement, and the destruction of basic infrastructure necessary for life.” It adds: “Civilian lives — Israeli and Palestinian — are equally valuable.” As a member of Congress, the page says, he would advocate for an immediate and permanent ceasefire, full humanitarian access to Gaza, accountability for war crimes whoever commits them, and “An end to U.S. military aid being used in violation of international humanitarian law”. That sentence names no government, and it asks for limits on how the aid is used rather than for the aid to stop. His questionnaire answer is the one place he says all funding to the government of Israel should be cut. The page closes: “Free Palestine means freedom and security for everyone — without apartheid, occupation, or collective punishment.” On antisemitism it says: “Criticism of a government is not hatred of a people. Opposing war crimes is not antisemitism.”
Two more pages of his site touch on weapons. His home page warns, in capitals, against Section 219 of the House's 2027 defense authorization bill, which would set up a joint United States and Israeli defense technology initiative, and a page named for that section says it is “nothing less than treason.” His site's menu also lists a page titled “Disarm and Defund Israel's Genocide”; the page under that heading carries a copy of Franklin Roosevelt's economic bill of rights and nothing else on the subject.
His campaign's video channel includes a January 2026 television appearance in which, its description says, he read a poem on air, tagged #freepalestine. The videos and his other social accounts could not be read here, and their addresses are on his research page so that anyone who can open them may look.

The notes behind this card: what we looked at, what we found, and where each item came from.
Every page named below was opened and read on 2026-09-24 unless the entry says otherwise. His campaign site, a Google Sites page of twenty-one pages, was read in full, page by page. Bands: Position (2024-01-26 onward), Reaction window (2023-10-07 to 2024-01-25), Earlier record (before 2023-10-07), Undated. Redkey has never held office, so none of the congressional votes this site tracks is his, and no funding from the committees this site tracks is recorded on this record.
U.S. military aid and weapons to the government of Israel
- [Position, read 2026-09-24] iVoterGuide's 2026 general election questionnaire, under the Economy heading. Asked "List your top 3-5 priorities to eliminate government waste.", he answered: "1) Cut all funding to Israel. 2) Increase taxes on the wealthy so "government waste" is not an issue. 3) With TriCare Prime-for-All will cut down significant waste in Medicaid and Medicare while providing an increased quality of life of all people in the United States. The only people against this HATE our military and are okay with Israel getting Universal Healthcare that our tax dollars pay for." The three answers are set out on the page as three numbered lines. The page carries no date for the answers; the guide is for the Arizona general election of November 3, 2026, so the answers belong to this campaign, and they are recorded on the date we read them. The page states that iVoterGuide is a division of AFA Action, which says it informs and mobilizes faith-based voters.
- [Position, undated; read 2026-09-24] His platform page headed Free Palestine, in the list of what he says he will advocate for as a member of Congress: "An end to U.S. military aid being used in violation of international humanitarian law". The sentence names no government. It is a call for limits on how military aid is used, not for the aid to stop.
- [Position, undated; read 2026-09-24] His home page carries this line, in capitals as printed: "REMINDER: THE BIPARTISAN (Democrats AND Republicans) SECTION 219 OF THE 2027 NATIONAL DEFENSE AUTHORIZATION ACT ALLOWS ISRAEL TO GAIN ACCESS TO OUR WEAPON SYSTEMS, INCLUDING OUR NUCLEAR ARESNAL!!!" The spelling is his. A page of his site carries a single sentence: "The Bipartisan Section 219 of the 2027 NDAA is nothing less than treason." Neither page quotes or links the text of the bill. Military.com's report of July 22, 2026 on the House vote describes Section 219 as a provision that would establish "the United States-Israel Defense Technology Cooperation Initiative" under a Pentagon executive agent, coordinating bilateral defense research, development, testing, evaluation and industrial cooperation across counter-drone systems, missile and air defense, artificial intelligence, cybersecurity and other fields. That report does not mention nuclear weapons. It records that the House passed the bill with the section intact after the rule for debate kept out an amendment to strike it.
- [Undated; read 2026-09-24] His site's menu lists a page titled "Disarm and Defund Israel's Genocide", at https://www.davidredkey4congress.com/disarm-and-defund-israels-genocide . The page opens and carries the heading "DISARM AND DEFNUD ISRAEL'S GENOCIDE", spelled as printed, followed by a copy of Franklin D. Roosevelt's Second Bill of Rights that also appears on the site's page headed Economic Bill of Rights. Nothing else on the page concerns Israel, weapons or funding. The title is his; no text on the page sets out what disarming or defunding would involve.
U.S. aid to Palestinians
- [Position, undated; read 2026-09-24] The Free Palestine page lists among what he would advocate for "Full humanitarian access to Gaza without political obstruction" and "Protection of journalists, medical personnel, and aid workers". It names no program, agency or dollar figure, and says nothing about U.S. funding for Palestinians or for UNRWA.
- Nothing else located, at any date.
Characterization of the conflict
- [Position, undated; read 2026-09-24] The Free Palestine page, in full apart from its list: "I support a permanent ceasefire, the protection of civilians, and the full application of international law to all parties." · "What is happening to the Palestinian people is not a conflict between equals. It is a humanitarian catastrophe marked by mass civilian casualties, collective punishment, forced displacement, and the destruction of basic infrastructure necessary for life. No people should be subjected to siege conditions, starvation, or indiscriminate violence." · "Human rights are not conditional. International law is not optional. Civilian lives — Israeli and Palestinian — are equally valuable." · "The United States should be a force for peace, not an enabler of endless war. Our foreign policy must be rooted in human dignity, the rule of law, and the consistent defense of civilian life." · "Free Palestine means freedom and security for everyone — without apartheid, occupation, or collective punishment." The dashes in those passages are em dashes on the page. The list also includes "An immediate and permanent ceasefire", "Accountability for war crimes, regardless of the actor committing them" and "The right of Palestinians to self-determination, freedom of movement, and equal civil rights".
- [Undated; read 2026-09-24] The page title "Disarm and Defund Israel's Genocide", described above, is the only place on his site where the word genocide appears.
Israel-related rhetoric and lobbying
- Nothing located, at any date. No statement by him about the American Israel Public Affairs Committee or any other advocacy organization on this subject was found. His site carries a page headed "Only Asking Votes — Never Your Money", which says "He will not ask you for a donation — and he will never accept a dime from voters."; the same site's home page carries a donation link. Both are about his own campaign's money and neither names any organization or government. The Federal Election Commission figures Ballotpedia reports for him show no receipts as of July 1, 2026.
Safety and antisemitism (context, not an answer to what America sends)
- [Position, undated; read 2026-09-24] The Free Palestine page: "Criticism of a government is not hatred of a people. Opposing war crimes is not antisemitism. Demanding accountability is not extremism. The weaponization of these accusations to silence debate undermines democracy and shields injustice."
- [Position, 2025-10-19] A video on his campaign's channel, at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jpM-TK-ojpc , is titled "ESA funds used by Scottsdale Christian Academy to remove Jewish congregation." Its description, which is his, reads: "Private school Scottsdale Christian Academy used public monies to remove a Jewish congregation from Temple Chai so they can tear it down to build a track." It is about Arizona's school voucher money and a synagogue property, not about what the United States sends. The video itself was not watched.
What the campaign site and own pages say
- [Undated; read 2026-09-24] His campaign site carries the banner "Build Jobs / Not Bombs" and twenty-one pages: the home page; the Section 219 page; Economic Bill of Rights; Only Asks for Votes, Never Money; TriCare Prime for All and two pages under it; What is Foundation Economics?; Ratify the Equal Rights Amendment; U.S. Supreme Court Amendment; Disarm and Defund Israel's Genocide; Free Palestine; Stopping the Trump Tariffs; Undo the Harm of Trump; Prevent Stock Trading by Congress; Federal Monies for School Funding; Fights for Reproductive Rights; Protection from Probate Cartels; Redkey v. Clarke, CV-24-0476; January 25, 2007, about a car crash that left him badly injured; and Why Vote for David Redkey?. Every page was read. The only pages that reach this subject are the home page, the Section 219 page, the Disarm and Defund page and the Free Palestine page, all set out above. The home page describes him as "a certified teacher, husband, and father who has proudly called Arizona home for nearly four decades". None of the pages carries a date.
- [Position, submitted 2025-08-05; read 2026-09-24] His Ballotpedia page carries his Candidate Connection survey, submitted on August 5, 2025 while he was a candidate for Arizona's 1st District. It is about his economic program, public schools and reform of Arizona's conservatorship and probate system. The words Israel, Gaza, Palestinian and foreign policy appear nowhere in it; asked about the first historical event he remembers, he names the 1991 Gulf War. The page records that he has not completed Ballotpedia's 2026 survey.
- [Position, read 2026-09-24] The same iVoterGuide questionnaire shows him answering its questions on abortion, the economy, taxes, spending and religious liberty, several at length, and leaving every question from the health care section onward marked "Did not answer". The unanswered questions include "Is the United States' relationship with Israel important, and if so why?" and the multiple-choice question on America's foreign policy. The profile lists one endorsement, from DC Statehood PAC, and an Amnesty International membership in 2011-2012.
The race
- [Read 2026-09-24] Ballotpedia's page for the 2026 election in Arizona's 3rd District: "Incumbent Yassamin Ansari, David Redkey, Alan Aversa, and Jacob Parkman are running in the general election for U.S. House Arizona District 3 on November 3, 2026." He advanced from the Green primary on July 21, 2026 as a write-in with 5 votes of 5 cast. Jacob Parkman is a Republican write-in. All four rating outlets the page lists rate the seat safe or solid Democratic.
- [Read 2026-09-24] His Ballotpedia page records that he also ran for Arizona's 1st District and did not appear on the Green primary ballot there, and that he was born in Bloomington, Indiana. A video on his campaign's channel from October 14, 2025 is titled "Democrat David Redkey for Arizona's 1st Congressional District".
- [Position, 2026-09-22] KTAR's report by Kevin Stone, published September 22, 2026: he was arrested on Saturday, September 19, 2026 and "booked into a Phoenix jail on suspicion of two felonies – using an electronic communication to intimidate, threaten or harass and computer tampering – and a misdemeanor count of threatening or intimidating, according to Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office records." It quotes the sheriff's office: "David Redkey communicated threats of violence to a Superior Court judge and an attorney’s office. TMU [Threat Management Unit] detectives contacted him on Sept. 19, and he admitted to the communications,". It reports that the arrest report was sealed, that his bond was set at $150,000, that he entered the Green primary as a write-in and won with five votes, and that the party lists him as "actively opposed" in its candidate endorsement ratings. A reader comment posted under the article makes further claims about him; it is a comment and not the report, and nothing is taken from it.
- [Position, 2026-09-22] KJZZ's report by Wayne Schutsky, published September 22, 2026, reports the same arrest and quotes the prosecutor at his hearing. It reports: "Redkey told a judge he has no knowledge of the alleged victims in the case." It quotes a social media post by the Arizona Green Party saying it had "actively opposed" his candidacy and giving the party's reasons, and reports that the judge limited his internet use while allowing him to campaign. These are allegations and a party's statement, reported by two outlets, and nothing about them concerns U.S. weapons or money for the government of Israel.
Places that could not be read, so nothing is claimed from them
- The videos on his campaign's channel, https://www.youtube.com/@DavidRedkey4Congress . The channel lists four videos, and their titles and descriptions were read; the videos were not watched. The one most likely to bear on this subject is https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MQyLjA9CTPg , posted January 5, 2026 and titled "Appearing on Fox 10 Streaming and reading Fatema Saidam's poem on air.", whose description ends with the tag #freepalestine. What he said in it is not known.
- His accounts at https://www.tiktok.com/@mrdavidredkey and https://www.instagram.com/davidredkey/ , which his site links to as his. Both returned a page with no readable posts.
- A post by KJZZ on its own Facebook page about his arrest, at https://www.facebook.com/kjzzphoenix/posts/green-party-congressional-candidate-david-redkey-was-arrested-in-phoenix-and-fac/1742584370606745/ , which does not open. The station's own report of the same arrest was read instead.
Not on the card, and why
- His third answer on the iVoterGuide form, about opponents of his health plan being "okay with Israel getting Universal Healthcare that our tax dollars pay for". It is a remark about the people who oppose his health plan, made in an answer about Medicare and Medicaid, and not a statement of what he would do about U.S. money for the government of Israel. It is quoted in full above.
- The capitalized warning on his home page that Section 219 gives the government of Israel access to American weapon systems including nuclear ones. It is his claim about a bill, stated without the bill's text; the deep dive names the section and his view of it, and his exact words and the published description of the section are both above.
- The page title "Disarm and Defund Israel's Genocide". The page under it carries no text on that subject, so the title is recorded above as a title and is not treated as a platform plank.
- His arrest in September 2026 and the Arizona Green Party's opposition to his candidacy: facts about his candidacy that do not concern U.S. weapons or money for the government of Israel. The deep dive states them in one sentence and they are set out above.
- His platform on wages, taxes, health care, schools, tariffs, stock trading, reproductive rights, the Equal Rights Amendment, the Supreme Court and probate reform, and his Ballotpedia survey answers: out of scope, listed above so the shape of his record is checkable.
- His campaign-money pledge and his video about Temple Chai. Neither is about U.S. weapons or money for the government of Israel; both are recorded above.
- Yassamin Ansari's, Alan Aversa's and Jacob Parkman's records. They belong on their own cards.
