But What Can You Do? tracks where 2026 candidates stand on U.S. weapons and funding for the government of Israel. How we check
Casey Askar
How this mark works
We track key votes on sending U.S. weapons and money to the government of Israel. A check means every tracked vote they cast came down against sending more, on the side of peace and de-escalation. A question mark means a mixed record: they sided with sending up to half of the time. An X means they voted to send more weapons and money in over half of their tracked votes, even as the way those weapons and dollars were being used became more and more obvious. At exactly half, money this election cycle from a lobbying group we track, or an endorsement from a group that backs sending weapons, makes it an X. Only votes actually cast are counted. Where a candidate has no recorded votes on these bills, the mark comes instead from a reviewed reading of their public record (money from the lobbying groups we track, endorsements, and their own words since January 26, 2024). There an X also covers fully backing the conduct of the war by the government of Israel without significant reservations, and a question mark also covers speaking about Israel without saying clearly where they stand on U.S. weapons and funding. A dash means No Position Found: we found nothing in their own words about Israel, Gaza or the war.
See a dash? Ask the candidate where they stand, then send us their answer and we'll review it and update the mark. Or volunteer to help review candidates.
No recorded votes on the bills we track. Endorsed by Republican Jewish Coalition.
Nothing located as of September 2026 has Askar taking a position on U.S. weapons or money for the government of Israel, or on U.S. aid to Palestinians. His campaign's foreign-policy plank names China, military funding and allies, and does not mention Israel.
The email has replies@butwhatcanyoudo.org in cc, so we can post their answer on their page in their own words; remove it if you prefer. Keep the subject line as it is, add your name, and send.
You asked Casey Askar where they stand.
Deep Dive
Casey Askar is the Republican nominee in Florida's 22nd District, a newly drawn seat with no incumbent in the race. Born in Iraq, he reached the United States at 7 with a family fleeing religious persecution as Christians, served in the Marine Corps and built a franchising and real estate business. He ran for the 19th District in 2020, won this year's Republican primary on August 18 with 31 percent of the vote, and faces Pia Dandiya in November.
His campaign's foreign-policy plank says the United States "must continue to push back against the Communist Chinese aggression in the Western Hemisphere", must "fund and modernize our great military", and must "work in tandem with our great friends and allies around the world". It does not name Israel, Gaza or aid to Palestinians. In a September 2026 interview, he told The Floridian that communism and China's influence are the biggest threats in the hemisphere; the published account quotes nothing from him on Israel. He did not answer the primary questionnaires of two local papers, and nothing else located from him in this campaign reaches these questions.
During the primary, The Floridian reported that attacks on him falsely depicted him as a Palestinian Muslim. That is reporting about attacks on him, not a position he has taken.
You are better placed to get an answer than we are. Ask Askar directly, or at a candidate forum, and send us the reply: it goes on this page in his own words.

Research log
The notes behind this card: what we looked at, what we found, and where each item came from.
Every page below was opened and read on 2026-09-27 unless the entry says otherwise. Bands: Position (2024-01-26 onward), Reaction window (2023-10-07 to 2024-01-25), Earlier record (before 2023-10-07), Undated. Askar has never held office, so none of the congressional votes this site tracks is his.
U.S. military aid and weapons to the government of Israel
- Nothing located in his own words, at any date.
- [Undated; unconfirmed] Earlier research reported that his 2026 platform said the United States should "continue our longstanding security and military assistance" to Israel, that "Israel must always be allowed to defend itself in times of war", that it called for "solutions that will allow for a secure Israel which is fully recognized by the international community", and that it backed keeping the U.S. Embassy in Jerusalem and building on the Abraham Accords. The page given for that wording, his Military Spending position on the Local Candidates guide, opens and carries none of it. It reads: "The U.S. must continue to push back against the Communist Chinese aggression in the Western Hemisphere and against our America interests around the world." It goes on to call for funding and modernizing the military under "peace through strength". The seven positions on his Local Candidates profile (Taxes & Spending, Voting Rights, Military Spending, Energy, K-12 Public Schools, Immigration, Medicaid & Medicare) do not mention Israel, and the reported wording was found on no other page. It is recorded here as unconfirmed and is not treated as his.
U.S. aid to Palestinians
- Nothing located, at any date.
Characterization of the conflict
- Nothing located in his own words, at any date.
- [Not his words] Until 2026-09-25 this card showed as Askar's the quotation "I feel like Israel and the United States are just kind of like the two last vestiges of the best of the West". The words belong to David Burck, a rival in the Republican primary. Sparker's Soapbox's primary guide (published 2026-07-12, updated 2026-08-15) carries them under its heading for Burck, from a June 2026 interview Burck gave the Jerusalem Post, and reports in the same paragraph that Burck trusts President Trump's judgment on Iran. Askar's own entry on that page (biography, platform headings, endorsements and news items) carries nothing on Israel. Burck lost the primary and is not on the November ballot.
- [Earlier record, 2020-08-18] iVoterGuide's 2020 questionnaire for his 19th District race reads "Did not answer" on all 39 items, including a statement supporting a boycott of Israel if it refuses a Palestinian state. He answered none of its questions, so it says nothing about his views.
- [Position, read 2026-09-27] iVoterGuide's questionnaire for this year's Republican primary reads "Did not answer" on all 32 items, including "Is the United States' relationship with Israel important, and if so why?" He answered none of its questions, so it says nothing about his views. iVoterGuide's general-election page for him carries no questionnaire.
Related rhetoric and lobbying
- Nothing located in his own words, at any date.
- [Position, 2026-09-23] The Republican Jewish Coalition is a national Republican group whose political action committee backs candidates it describes as pro-Israel. Its PAC announced new endorsements, Askar among them, saying he "has spoken clearly about the necessity of thwarting Iran's nuclear ambitions" and "will be a reliable Republican voice for the Jewish community, the U.S.-Israel alliance, and peace through strength." Those are the organization's words about him; the release quotes nothing from him, and no statement of his on Iran or Israel was located to match its description.
- [Earlier record, 2020-05-15] A 2020 profile on The Paradise Progressive blog, written during his first race, lists "pro-Israel" among his positions as its author read his campaign website of the time. That is a blogger's summary of a 2020 site, not his words, and his current site says nothing of the kind.
Safety and antisemitism (context)
- Nothing located in his own words, at any date.
- [Position, 2026-08-10] The Floridian reported that attacks on him during the primary went after his "Middle Eastern background, falsely depicting him as a Palestinian Muslim, despite his Christian faith and Iraqi background." Reporting about attacks on him, not a position of his.
- [Position, 2026-08-07] The Floridian also reported that a website paid for by a primary rival's campaign pictured him in a keffiyeh, adding that he is Christian and neither Palestinian nor Muslim. Again reporting about him, not his words.
What the campaign site and his own pages say
- [Position, read 2026-09-27] His campaign site is one page with nine issue headings: America, economy, election integrity, government accountability, foreign policy, energy, education, immigration and law enforcement, and health care. Its foreign-policy plank reads, in full: "The U.S. must continue to push back against the Communist Chinese aggression in the Western Hemisphere and against our American interests around the world." Then: "We must continue to fund and modernize our great military, and press ahead with President Trump’s America First policy of “peace through strength.”" Then: "In addition, we must continue to work in tandem with our great friends and allies around the world to defend our shared values and interests, and protect Democracy." The words Israel, Gaza, Palestinian and Middle East appear nowhere on the site; its biography says he "practices his Judeo-Christian values with his family and in his work". Its contact page publishes no email address. The plank is unchanged from the site as read on 2026-09-25.
- [Read 2026-09-27] His Ballotpedia profile reproduces the same issue text and records that he has not completed Ballotpedia's 2026 candidate survey. His BallotReady profile carries the same plank text under Foreign Policy and nothing on Israel.
- [Read 2026-09-27] His YouTube channel lists campaign ads, interview clips and shorts; no video title names Israel or Gaza. One May 2026 short, tagged "#iran", is described as being about critics of President Trump. The videos themselves were not transcribed, so nothing is claimed from them.
Interviews and questionnaires
- [Position, 2026-09-18] The Floridian's account of an interview on foreign policy quotes him on communism, China, Cuba and Venezuela: "If we root communism out, it makes us safer." It quotes nothing on Israel, Gaza or U.S. aid.
- [Position, 2026-09-18] Breitbart's account of his September 16 radio appearance quotes him on his opponent, the district and fundraising, and "I believe that this country is a Judeo-Christian nation". Nothing on Israel, Gaza or U.S. aid.
- [Position, 2026-09-19] The Center Square reports his call to abolish the federal gas tax, which it ties to gas prices from the U.S. conflict in Iran; its quotes from him are about the tax only.
- [Position, 2026-08-08] The Palm Beach Post's voter guide for the primary reports that he did not return its questionnaire, and the Naples Daily News reported on 2026-08-09 that he responded to neither paper's. Unreturned questionnaires say nothing about his views.
- [Position, 2026-08-13] WINK News put the same questions to each District 22 candidate who agreed to an interview, including him, and published the answers as videos with no transcript. Nothing is claimed from them.
- [Position, 2026-08-23] His interview on Local 10's This Week in South Florida is an eight-minute video whose description says only who he is. Nothing is claimed from it.
- [Position, 2026-06-21] The Floridian's report on the first Republican forum, held by the Collier County Republican Executive Committee, says "The issue of Foreign Policy has hardly addressed" and describes Askar answering on his business record.
The race
- He won the Republican primary on August 18, 2026 with 31 percent of the vote in a field of seven, and faces Pia Dandiya, the Democratic nominee, on November 3. The seat is newly drawn and has no incumbent in the race. President Trump endorsed him (WLRN, 2026-09-03), and the Cook Political Report now rates the race a toss-up (WLRN, 2026-09-25).
- General-election coverage since the primary carries nothing from him on Israel, Gaza or U.S. aid: WLRN on health care (2026-08-31), the Coral Springs News on the matchup (2026-08-19), Florida Politics on the races to watch (2026-08-21), and The Floridian on his primary win (2026-08-19), a national party program (2026-09-08) and his gas-tax bill (2026-09-16).
Places that could not be read, so nothing is claimed from them
- His accounts on X (https://x.com/CaseyAskar), Facebook (https://www.facebook.com/CaseyAskar/) and Instagram (https://www.instagram.com/caseyaskar/), which his campaign site links. Their posts cannot be read from outside the platforms.
- The WINK News and Local 10 interview videos and his YouTube videos listed above.
- The Hill's article on the race (https://thehill.com/homenews/campaign/6028302-dandiya-askar-florida-house-primary/), which did not open.
Not on the card, and why
- The quotation about "the two last vestiges of the best of the West": not his words; it belongs to David Burck (see Characterization).
- The reported platform wording on security assistance, the embassy and the Abraham Accords: no page carries it.
- The Republican Jewish Coalition's endorsement and its description of him: the endorsement already shows on the card, and the description is the organization's words, not his; its Iran remark is also off this site's topic.
- The 2020 and 2026 iVoterGuide questionnaires and the two unreturned newspaper questionnaires: nothing answered.
- The 2020 blog profile: a third party's summary, from an earlier race.
- The interviews on communism, the gas tax and his radio appearance: not about U.S. weapons, money or aid in this conflict.
