But What Can You Do? tracks where 2026 candidates stand on U.S. weapons and funding for the government of Israel. How we check

How this mark works

We track key votes on sending U.S. weapons and money to the government of Israel. A check means every tracked vote they cast came down against sending more, on the side of peace and de-escalation. A question mark means a mixed record: they sided with sending up to half of the time. An X means they voted to send more weapons and money in over half of their tracked votes, even as the way those weapons and dollars were being used became more and more obvious. At exactly half, money this election cycle from a lobbying group we track, or an endorsement from a group that backs sending weapons, makes it an X. Only votes actually cast are counted. Where a candidate has no recorded votes on these bills, the mark comes instead from a reviewed reading of their public record (money from the lobbying groups we track, endorsements, and their own words since January 26, 2024). There an X also covers fully backing the conduct of the war by the government of Israel without significant reservations, and a question mark also covers speaking about Israel without saying clearly where they stand on U.S. weapons and funding. A dash means No Position Found: we found nothing in their own words about Israel, Gaza or the war.

See a dash? Ask the candidate where they stand, then send us their answer and we'll review it and update the mark. Or volunteer to help review candidates.

No recorded votes on the bills we track. In their own words on August 30, 2026.

Deep Dive

Nadia Milleron is running in Massachusetts’ 1st District as an independent, her second campaign against Representative Richard Neal; in 2024 she took 37.3 percent. She is 62, an attorney who lives on a farm in Sheffield, and she began her career representing children facing neglect and abuse. After her daughter Samya Stumo died in the 2019 crash of a Boeing 737 MAX in Ethiopia, she campaigned for the aircraft certification law Congress passed in 2020. Her uncle is Ralph Nader. Ballotpedia lists Neal and Milleron as the candidates in the November 3, 2026 general election; no Republican is on the ballot.

Her campaign platform gives this subject a section headed Human Rights. It says she supports “ending the genocide in Palestine, and equal rights for all people”, and that “U.S. tax dollars are funding the destruction of Palestinian lives, and that is not only a moral failure but a strategic one.” It goes on: “A foreign policy built on violence does not make us safer. Those dollars should be invested in the well-being of people here at home.” The same page says she “will vote against sending taxpayer money to fund foreign wars”, and that her sons, who sailed with aid flotillas to Gaza, were “imprisoned and physically abused by Israel.”

In an interview with Rural Intelligence published on September 23, 2026, the reporter wrote that she calls for an end to U.S. weapons and funding for the government of Israel. Discussing her husband’s job in the Trump administration, she said “we are not war criminals like Neal and Trump are”, which the reporter says referred to their support for supplying weapons and funding to the government of Israel.

She made the same argument in October 2025, while her two sons were held in Israel after their flotilla was intercepted. She told The Huntington News: “Our government has total leverage over Israel. We provide funding for their existence.” Asked how people could help, she said they should tell their representatives that “the U.S. should not be allowing the entity that they fund — Israel — to take U.S. munitions and drop them on legally sailing vessels on the Mediterranean.” She added: “If [Adnaan and Torleif] put their lives on the line for that, the rest of us can at least try to withdraw our money from supporting the illegal activity.”

Nothing located has her taking a position on U.S. funding for the United Nations agency for Palestinian refugees or on any specific bill, and she has never held office, so none of the votes this site tracks is hers. A September 2025 report of her lobbying for the flotilla, a third party’s account of remarks she made at a 2026 event, and a campaign volunteer’s op-ed are on her research page.

Research log

The notes behind this card: what we looked at, what we found, and where each item came from.

Every page named below was opened and read on 2026-09-24 unless the entry says otherwise. Her whole campaign site was read, every content page its own index lists: the home page, Meet Nadia, the Policies page, the grow, health care and manufacturing pages, the news, vote, volunteer and contact pages, and two unlinked drafts; only its shop, donation and privacy pages were left unread. Bands: Position (2024-01-26 onward), Reaction window (2023-10-07 to 2024-01-25), Earlier record (before 2023-10-07), Undated. Milleron has never held office, so none of the congressional votes this site tracks is hers, and no funding from the committees this site tracks is recorded on this record. Nothing of hers from the reaction window was found.

U.S. military aid and weapons to the government of Israel

  • [Position, page updated 2026-08-30; read 2026-09-24] Her campaign’s Policies page, under the heading Human Rights: “Nadia supports ending the genocide in Palestine, and equal rights for all people.” · “U.S. tax dollars are funding the destruction of Palestinian lives, and that is not only a moral failure but a strategic one. Destroying communities, killing families, and stripping people of everything breeds instability and blowback for generations. A foreign policy built on violence does not make us safer. Those dollars should be invested in the well-being of people here at home.” The page names no bill, no weapon system and no dollar figure. Under the heading Tax Relief for Working Families the same page says: “And she will vote against sending taxpayer money to fund foreign wars, because every dollar spent on destruction is a dollar not spent on housing, health care, and the future of our communities.” The page was first published on 2024-07-18 and last updated on 2026-08-30, and it is dated to the update. An older version of the same passage, on a page last updated 2026-05-26 that the site no longer links from its menu, carries the same passage in a different order and without the line on genocide. Both pages also say: “As a Lebanese American who has been immersed in Middle East policy her entire life, Nadia understands the human cost of endless war in a way most politicians never will.”
  • [Position, 2026-09-23] Rural Intelligence, in a profile by its editor, Jamie Larson. In the reporter’s words: “Milleron calls for an end to US weapons and funding for Israel, but would also cut off funding for Ukraine, accepting that a truce in that conflict may have to include ceding land to Russia.” Her own words, on the moral distinction between working inside an administration and its conduct: “These terrible contradictions do happen in our economic lives,” she says. “But we are not war criminals like Neal and Trump are,” referring specifically to their support for supplying weapons and funding to Israel during their occupation of Palestine. The phrase after the quotation marks is the reporter’s, not hers.
  • [Position, 2025-10-06] The Huntington News, a Q&A by Janira Skrbkova, edited by the paper for length and clarity, published while her sons were detained. Asked what she wanted from the U.S. government: “Our government has total leverage over Israel. We provide funding for their existence. So, our government should just say, “Return these people, now, within the three-day window.”” Asked how people can support the detained: “They can contact their own representatives and say that this shouldn’t be happening, and that the U.S. should not be allowing the entity that they fund — Israel — to take U.S. munitions and drop them on legally sailing vessels on the Mediterranean. Don’t look away from this illegal behavior on the part of Israel, because if you do, it will get worse. Object to it — actively object to it.” And: “If [Adnaan and Torleif] put their lives on the line for that, the rest of us can at least try to withdraw our money from supporting the illegal activity.” Earlier in the interview, explaining why she and her husband first asked their sons not to sail: “the most important work that needs to be done is the education of the American taxpayers to know how their money is being spent.” The bracketed words are the paper’s.

U.S. aid to Palestinians

  • Nothing located, at any date, on U.S. government funding for the United Nations Relief and Works Agency, on U.S. humanitarian funding for Gaza, or on any bill on those subjects.
  • [Position, 2025-08 to 2025-10] What is located is action around a private aid effort. Rural Intelligence reports that in August 2025 she flew to Barcelona to help her sons load boats trying to bring food and medicine to Gaza by sea, inventoried the cargo and sat through the nonviolence training. CBS Boston, on October 4, 2025, quotes her on her sons’ detention: “They did what many Americans really feel like doing, just solving the problem, taking care of the people,” and reports, in its own words, that she explained her sons “were also trying to break the blockade, which has been in place for 18 years.” That phrase is the reporter’s paraphrase, not a quotation. GBH News, on October 13, 2025, reports her relief at their return.
  • [Position, 2025-09-24] The Republican’s report by Larry Parnass, republished on Rep. Neal’s House site, says she was in Washington seeking help from lawmakers for the flotilla’s aid shipments, and quotes her praising a letter his office sent the White House about food aid reaching Gaza: “It’s a very good letter”. This page also sits on her opponent’s card, so it is recorded here and used nowhere else on this card.

Characterization of the conflict

  • [Position, page updated 2026-08-30; read 2026-09-24] Her platform’s own term is genocide: “Nadia supports ending the genocide in Palestine, and equal rights for all people.”
  • [Position, 2025-09-24] The same Republican report quotes her: “It is the Holocaust of our time, a horrendous thing that we are participating in and supporting” as a country, Milleron said. The words “as a country” are outside the quotation marks and are the reporter’s. Recorded here only, for the reason given above.
  • [Position, 2026-06-15; the event date is not given] Current Affairs, in an interview with Norman Finkelstein. He says she came to an event where he spoke “Yesterday” and gives her remarks as: “There has to be legal rights for all. Everything has to be equal and can't be anything less. One state. Everyone who's there should stay there.” This is his account of her words, not her own publication, and he describes her in the same breath as “running for local office in Springfield”, which is not her race. Recorded here and used nowhere else.

Israel-related rhetoric and lobbying

  • [Position, 2026-08-04] An op-ed in the Greenfield Recorder by a volunteer for her campaign says “She does not accept any donations from corporations or PACs like AIPAC.” That is a supporter’s description, not her own statement, and a statement about campaign money is not a position on what the United States sends. The American Israel Public Affairs Committee is a lobbying organization that works for close United States and Israel ties. Her campaign site names no such organization.

Safety and antisemitism (context, not an answer to what America sends)

  • Nothing located, at any date. Nothing in her published material addresses antisemitism or the safety of any religious community.

What her campaign site and own pages say

  • [Undated; read 2026-09-24] Her home page lists four issues: getting insurance companies out of health care, eliminating federal income tax under $100,000, manufacturing what we need, and term limits. The Policies page sets out nine headings, of which Human Rights is the one on this subject, and a section headed Invest in Well Being, Not War that says spending on foreign wars drains resources from health care, housing and infrastructure and names no country.
  • [Read 2026-09-24] Her Ballotpedia page says she has not completed the 2026 Candidate Connection survey. Her 2024 answers, carried on the same page, are about manufacturing, doctor shortages, fentanyl, term limits and accountability, and do not mention foreign policy.
  • [Position, 2026-08-13] The Reminder’s report of her August 2026 debate with Jeromie Whalen records that both said Congress must control funding and must not let the president take military action without its approval. No country is named.
  • [Position, 2026-03-20] WAMC’s report of her 2026 campaign launch describes her campaign as part of a national coalition of independent candidates. The interview itself is audio and was not listened to.

The race

  • [Read 2026-09-24] Ballotpedia’s page for the 2026 election in Massachusetts’ 1st District: “Incumbent Richard Neal (D) and Nadia Milleron (Unenrolled) are running in the general election for U.S. House Massachusetts District 1 on November 3, 2026.” Neal won the Democratic primary on September 1, 2026 over Jeromie Whalen. Ballotpedia lists Anthony Celata, unenrolled, as withdrawn or disqualified; the Rural Intelligence profile describes him as a second independent opponent. The difference is recorded here and not resolved.
  • [Position, 2026-09-23] Rural Intelligence reports that she took 37.3 percent in the 2024 general election, that Whalen took 45.9 percent in the September 1 primary, and that no Republican is on the ballot. It also reports that her husband, Michael Stumo, works in the White House Office of Management and Budget; it says she hopes voters will judge her on her own merits.

  • Her campaign’s accounts on Facebook, X, Instagram and YouTube, linked from her site. They were not read.
  • WAMC’s audio interview and WWLP’s report of her August 12, 2026 debate with Jeromie Whalen, which her site lists but whose address it does not give.

Not on the card, and why

  • Her remarks about the flotilla quoted by The Republican, including “It is the Holocaust of our time”: the only copy read is republished on her opponent’s House site, which his own card also cites, so it stays here until that shared source has been checked from both sides.
  • The remarks Norman Finkelstein says she made at a 2026 event: his account of her words, not her own.
  • The op-ed saying she accepts no money from AIPAC: a supporter’s description, and about campaign money.
  • Her call, as Rural Intelligence reports it, to cut off funding for Ukraine, and her positions on tariffs, impeachment, immigration, guns and transgender care in the same profile: not about U.S. weapons or money for the government of Israel.
  • The casualty and famine figures in the reports of her sons’ voyage: cards do not reproduce them.
  • Her husband’s work and her sons’ accounts of their detention: family context. Their words are theirs.
  • Her positions on health care, taxes, manufacturing, housing, term limits and corporate money: out of scope, and listed above so the record can be checked.
  • Richard Neal’s record, and what she says about it: it belongs on his card.
