How this mark works

We track key votes on sending U.S. weapons and money to the government of Israel. A check means every tracked vote they cast came down against sending more, on the side of peace and de-escalation. A question mark means a mixed record: they sided with sending up to half of the time. An X means they voted to send more weapons and money in over half of their tracked votes, even as the way those weapons and dollars were being used became more and more obvious. At exactly half, money this election cycle from a lobbying group we track, or an endorsement from a group that backs sending weapons, makes it an X. Only votes actually cast are counted. Where a candidate has no recorded votes on these bills, the mark comes instead from a reviewed reading of their public record (money from the lobbying groups we track, endorsements, and their own words since January 26, 2024). There an X also covers fully backing the conduct of the war by the government of Israel without significant reservations, and a question mark also covers speaking about Israel without saying clearly where they stand on U.S. weapons and funding. Deep Dive

Hines is the Democratic nominee in Michigan's 10th District, an open seat covering southern Macomb County and Rochester. She is a former Wayne County and Washtenaw County prosecutor and faces Republican Michael Bouchard and three minor-party candidates in November.

The one place she has written about the conflict is a campaign newsletter of October 8, 2025, a reading list. Of the Book of Lamentations she wrote: "In this season, it feels particularly poignant as we watch the conflict and tragedy in Israel and Gaza unfold — the scale of suffering, the ache of loss, the longing for justice and peace. Lamentations reminds me that our prayers and our politics both have to make space for grief, honesty, and hope." It is a reflection, not a policy statement, and it says nothing about what the United States should send to the government of Israel or to Palestinians. Her campaign site, read on September 3, 2026, lists health care, Social Security, housing, money in politics, prices, education, disability rights and the environment, and does not mention the conflict.

During her 2024 run for Macomb County prosecutor she told The Macomb Daily that a conservative group's video tying her campaign to George Soros was part of concerted antisemitic attacks on Soros and other Jewish people. The Michigan Democratic Jewish Caucus lists her among its endorsed candidates for this seat.
