But What Can You Do? tracks where 2026 candidates stand on U.S. weapons and funding for the government of Israel. How we check

Ramon Mora Jr.

Independent · U.S. House, New Jersey District 2
✓
How this mark works

We track key votes on sending U.S. weapons and money to the government of Israel. A check means every tracked vote they cast came down against sending more, on the side of peace and de-escalation. A question mark means a mixed record: they sided with sending up to half of the time. An X means they voted to send more weapons and money in over half of their tracked votes, even as the way those weapons and dollars were being used became more and more obvious. At exactly half, money this election cycle from a lobbying group we track, or an endorsement from a group that backs sending weapons, makes it an X. Only votes actually cast are counted. Where a candidate has no recorded votes on these bills, the mark comes instead from a reviewed reading of their public record (money from the lobbying groups we track, endorsements, and their own words since January 26, 2024). There an X also covers fully backing the conduct of the war by the government of Israel without significant reservations, and a question mark also covers speaking about Israel without saying clearly where they stand on U.S. weapons and funding. A dash means No Position Found: we found nothing in their own words about Israel, Gaza or the war.

See a dash? Ask the candidate where they stand, then send us their answer and we'll review it and update the mark. Or volunteer to help review candidates.

Two reviewers, reading the public record as a whole, agree: Under a platform heading against "Isreal 1st while American 2nd" policies he writes that there is "No reason we should be funding" that country's costs while Americans go without, an objection to U.S. money for Israel (which is military aid), with nothing pointing the other way. Reviewed by hand on 2026-10-01. This candidate has no recorded tracked floor votes.

Mora's platform objects to U.S. money for the government of Israel. Under a heading against "Isreal 1st while American 2nd policys", it says: "No reason we should be funding nearly all of the costs for another country's social programs, when Americans go without". It also rejects AIPAC money.

Deep Dive

Ramon Mora Jr., of Vineland, is an independent candidate in New Jersey's 2nd District, the state's southernmost. He grew up in Section 8 housing, was homeless as a teenager and graduated from nursing school, and he told NJ Spotlight News he is a full-time candidate. He faces Representative Jeff Van Drew, the Republican, and Zack Mullock, the Democrat, on November 3. He has never held office, so there are no votes on this record.

His campaign site gives foreign policy four short lines. The first, under a heading against "Isreal 1st while American 2nd policys", reads: "No reason we should be funding nearly all of the costs for another country's social programs, when Americans go without". The second is "No to AIPAC money", meaning the American Israel Public Affairs Committee, a lobbying organization that works for close United States and Israel ties. The page does not say what he would do about U.S. weapons for the government of Israel, and nothing located does.

He ties the lobby to his reason for running. He told Front Runner New Jersey in July 2026 that he runs as a Progressive Independent because of "my falling out with the Democratic Party over the years, In particular I refer to the Corporate/AIPAC owned democrats." His government reform plank would "Ban corporate PACS especially with ties to foreign nations". Turning down a lobby's money is not by itself a position on what the United States sends.

Asked by NJ Spotlight News about the war in Iran and defense spending, he answered that he does not support "Israel’s war in Iran and our involvement in fighting their war" and would move military money to domestic needs. Nothing located has him speaking about U.S. aid to Palestinians or about the war in Gaza, and his iVoterGuide questionnaire is blank from top to bottom. The rest of what our research found is on his research page.

Research log

The notes behind this card: what we looked at, what we found, and where each item came from.

Every page named below was opened and read on 2026-10-08 unless the entry says otherwise. His campaign site was read in full where it speaks to these questions: the home page, the issues page, the foreign policy and government reform pages, and the Meet Ramon page. Bands: Position (2024-01-26 onward), Reaction window (2023-10-07 to 2024-01-25), Earlier record (before 2023-10-07), Undated. Undated pages are recorded on the date we read them. Mora has never held office, so none of the congressional votes this site tracks is his, and no funding from the committees this site tracks is recorded on this record. Nothing located on this subject falls in the reaction window.

U.S. military aid and weapons to the government of Israel

  • [Position, read 2026-10-08] His campaign site's foreign policy page lists four items. The first is headed "1) Anti-Isreal 1st while American 2nd policys" and reads beneath it: "No reason we should be funding nearly all of the costs for another country's social programs, when Americans go without". The heading is read here as opposing policies that put Israel first and Americans second; the spelling is his. The page names no weapons, no aid program and no amount, and does not say what he would vote for.
  • [Position, page last updated 2026-09-25] NJ Spotlight News' 2nd District election guide, his own survey answer to "Do you support the war in Iran and federal defense spending? If not, what would you change?": "I do not support Israel’s war in Iran and our involvement in fighting their war. We do not have a federal defense expenditure, we have a federal offense expenditure and that has to change. We waste trillions on war, building bombs, overthrowing countries, blowing up children, and destroying countries in the name of profit. We could be doing so much more for everyone in America if we redirected even a fraction of that spending to the benefit of the people to lower their cost of living and improve their quality of life. I would redirect funding to American Defense and American Citizen Investment." The guide first went up on April 29, 2026 and was last modified on September 25, 2026; his entry gives no date of its own. The answer is about the war with Iran and U.S. military spending in general; it does not mention Gaza or U.S. weapons transfers to the government of Israel.
  • [Position, read 2026-10-08] His government reform page, item 8: "Ending Forever wars", explained as "End the Bush era laws that allows our military to go rogue into other countries spending trillions on war, destruction, and murder, but not on American quality of life." It names no country.

U.S. aid to Palestinians

  • Nothing located, at any date.

Characterization of the conflict

  • Nothing located about the war in Gaza, at any date. The NJ Spotlight answer above calls the war with Iran "Israel’s war".
  • [Undated, read 2026-10-08] His iVoterGuide profile lists "Is the United States' relationship with Israel important, and if so why?" with "Did not answer". Every question on the form reads "Did not answer", so the blank is a fact about the guide's coverage of him, not a choice about this question.

Israel-related rhetoric and lobbying

  • [Position, read 2026-10-08] His foreign policy page, item 2: "No to AIPAC money".
  • [Position, 2026-07-04] Front Runner New Jersey's interview with him, asked why he runs as an independent: "I am running as a Progressive Independent due to my falling out with the Democratic Party over the years, In particular I refer to the Corporate/AIPAC owned democrats. I believe both major parties have failed to address the real needs of working families." He goes on to say both parties are beholden to "their foreign and corporate donors".
  • [Position, read 2026-10-08] His government reform page, item 4: "Ban corporate PACS especially with ties to foreign nations". It names no organization.
  • [Position, 2026-06-04] His Ballotpedia Candidate Connection answers, submitted June 4, 2026, say he is running to represent the district, "Not myself, not private interests, and definitely not foreign interests." They name no country or organization, and no question on that form is about foreign policy.

Safety and antisemitism

  • Nothing located, at any date.

What the campaign site and own pages say

  • [Read 2026-10-08] His home page runs on three core concepts: the cost of living, investing in people's quality of life, and transparency about tax dollars. Its list of priorities does not mention foreign policy. The Meet Ramon page is biography and says nothing on these questions.

The race

  • [Read 2026-10-08] Ballotpedia: "Incumbent Jeff Van Drew (R), Zack Mullock (D), and Ramon Mora Jr. (Independent) are running in the general election for U.S. House New Jersey District 2 on November 3, 2026." It records $0 in contributions to his campaign.
  • [Page last updated 2026-09-25] NJ Spotlight News gives his hometown as Vineland, his occupation as "Full-Time Candidate" and his age as 32, and says he "lists his address as a Vineland post office box."
  • [2026-08-13] Who Are These People?, a New Jersey candidate-profile project, reproduces his platform, including the foreign policy lines (it spells the heading "Anti-Israel 1st while American 2nd"), and reports that Democratic Party officials challenged his nominating petitions and withdrew the challenge on June 10, 2026, citing the New Jersey Globe. Its reproduction is used here only as a pointer; the words quoted above come from his own site.

  • His campaign Facebook page https://facebook.com/RMJR4CongressCD2 and the Facebook page Ballotpedia lists, https://www.facebook.com/NJRAY856
  • His campaign Instagram https://instagram.com/ramonmorajr4congress and TikTok https://tiktok.com/@Njray856 (his Meet Ramon page says he explains his plans further there)

Not on the card, and why

  • The body of the NJ Spotlight answer on the war with Iran (from "We waste trillions on war" onward): it is about U.S. military involvement against Iran and military spending in general, not about U.S. weapons or money for the government of Israel or aid to Palestinians. The deep dive quotes only the answer's opening words and summarizes its last sentence; the answer stays off the front and out of the quotes list.
  • The blank iVoterGuide entry: guide coverage, not a position.
  • The "foreign interests" lines in his Ballotpedia answers and the "foreign and corporate donors" line in the Front Runner interview: they name no country or organization.
  • A 2020 reader comment signed "Ramon mora" under an essay on Midwestern Marx (https://www.midwesternmarx.com/articles/on-american-patriotism-by-edward-liger-smith): it is about the Korean War and U.S. history, says nothing on these questions, and nothing ties the commenter to the candidate.
