Deep Dive

Jordan has represented Ohio's 4th district since 2007 and chairs the House Judiciary Committee. In February 2025 he led a delegation of House Republicans to Israel, his first visit there since before the pandemic, and the month after it he told Jewish Insider that Israel stands "in a category all by themselves" among U.S. allies. The same report says he has voted consistently in favor of U.S. aid to Israel while remaining a skeptic of aid to Ukraine.

In that interview he also said it is obvious that a two-state solution should be a thing of the past. "That’s just not going to fly," he said, arguing that each state would have to want to work with the other and that the stated goal of the Palestinians is to destroy Israel. On the future of Gaza he said the United States should let the government of Israel take the lead, and that "you cannot allow this terrorist organization to run that area".

As chairman he has spent 2026 on a different question about American money. In May his committee told the Jewish News Syndicate that it had traced federal grants, routed through the U.S. Agency for International Development and the State Department, to nonprofit groups he says have worked to undermine the government of Israel. In July he and Ways and Means chairman Jason Smith wrote to the New Israel Fund, a U.S. charity that makes grants to Israeli civil society organizations, opening an investigation into whether its funding of groups active in Israel's 2019 elections broke the terms of its tax exemption. Of those charities he said, "I think it’s driven to alter outcomes and to undermine the guy who was elected as prime minister, Prime Minister Netanyahu."

In April 2026 a reporter for the news outlet Zeteo asked him about Americans killed by Israeli soldiers and settlers. Zeteo's description of the clip it published says he answered that he is totally in support of helping Israel; the clip itself has not been watched here, so the wording is not confirmed. His own House newsroom and his campaign site raise the subject nowhere.   • [Position, 2025-03-18] Jewish Insider interview by Marc Rod, published March 18, 2025 and conducted the week before. "Asked after a recent trip to Israel about potential additional avenues for Congress to support Israel, including future aid packages, Jordan described Israel as 'in a category all by themselves.'" His answer: "When they need help, we should be helping Israel because there's this special bond that exists between the Jewish people and Americans, and Israel and the United States. It's just a special relationship. And a lot of it is because of the Judeo-Christian connection and heritage that we have." The report also states, as the reporter's own summary: "While he's a skeptic of aid to Ukraine, Jordan has voted consistently in favor of U.S. aid to Israel, even as a group of Freedom Caucus members, including the group's then-chairman, opposed U.S. aid to Israel last year unless paired with other funding cuts."

"I kind of thought (attacks) were going to come sooner. But I support Israel. You cannot have (nuclear weapons in Iran). (Israel's military action) is not only good for Israel, this is good for America." "You don't want Iran with nuclear capability," he said. "Allowing Israel to do it, I think, is the right way."   • [Position, 2026-05-29] The Jewish News Syndicate reported that his committee had identified federal funding, through the U.S. Agency for International Development, the State Department and other agencies, reaching nonprofit groups it says worked against the Israeli government. Jordan told the outlet that American tax dollars had gone to groups undermining the United States' best ally. "Money is fungible," he said. "It's tough to track exactly, but it looks like some of this money was also then being run through one or two NGOs, winding up on college campuses to promote all the crazy antisemitic, anti-Israel stuff on campuses." On intent he said: "I don't know that we have any evidence that suggests that they knew they were funding some organization that was actively giving dollars to groups associated with terrorism."
  • [Position, 2026-07-09] Jordan and Ways and Means chairman Jason Smith wrote to the New Israel Fund, a U.S. charity that makes grants to Israeli civil society organizations, opening an investigation into whether it violated its tax-exempt status "by providing millions of dollars in funding to groups that engaged in political campaign activities in the 2019 Israeli elections". The Times of Israel reports the letter and the July 23 document deadline, and quotes Rep. Jerrold Nadler calling the letter "outrageous behavior by Chairmen Jordan and Smith, and the Republican majority".
