James Talarico
James Talarico (D), an Austin-area Texas state representative and the 2026 Democratic nominee for U.S. Senate after defeating Rep. Jasmine Crockett in the March 3, 2026 primary, has no federal votes but has made restricting U.S. weapons transfers to Israel an explicit campaign position. His campaign platform (updated January 2026, accessed July 23, 2026) pledges to stop 'offensive weapons sales to the Netanyahu government' while 'supporting defensive systems like the Iron Dome' with 'agreements that American funds will not be used to harm civilians'; at a Houston town hall in December 2025 he vowed to 'vote to ban offensive weapons to Israel' and to use U.S. 'financial and diplomatic leverage' to end what he called 'atrocities in Palestine'; and at a New Braunfels-area town hall in January 2026 he said he would work to ban the sale of offensive military weapons to Israel while affirming Israel's right to exist and defend itself. His position sharpened over the campaign: in September 2025 he declined to comment on Sen. Bernie Sanders' resolutions seeking to block U.S. military aid to Israel, saying he was unfamiliar with the measures, and he has declined to say whether Israel's conduct in Gaza amounts to 'genocide'; in October 2023 he voted for Texas H.R. 10, which urged the U.S. to 'provide all assistance as may be required to support Israel' against Hamas. He has also pledged not to accept support from AIPAC (or, per Jewish Insider, J Street), drawing criticism from some Texas Jewish community leaders.
