Phil Scott

Republican · Governor, Vermont

Scott has proclaimed Israel's Independence Day in Vermont two years running. In a 2024 statement he said Palestinian civilians killed since the war began "should also be in our thoughts". Nothing was located from him on U.S. weapons or money for the government of Israel.

Scott has been governor of Vermont since 2017 and is running again. He has never held federal office, so none of the congressional votes this site tracks are his, and nothing located has him taking a position on what the United States sends.

The proclamations this site had been crediting him with, without a date or a document, are real and published. His office has issued one in each of the last two years marking Israel's Independence Day: Proclamation 25-69 in May 2025 and Proclamation 26-41 in April 2026. They are ceremonial state documents, which is the end of the job a governor's office does here.

He has said one thing that goes further than ceremony. In a statement in October 2024 he mourned the Israelis killed, condemned antisemitism, and then turned to the other side of the ledger: "We also know tens of thousands more have died in the year since, including many Palestinian civilians. They should also be in our thoughts today." He closed by calling the resolution to the conflict complex and asking Vermonters to agree at least that expressions of hate at home achieve nothing.

He has also signed his name to group documents with other Republican governors, and in October 2025 he condemned leaked messages from a national Young Republican group chat as "disgusting and unacceptable". If you want his position on what the United States sends, ask Scott directly and send us the reply. It goes on this page in his own words.
