But What Can You Do? tracks where 2026 candidates stand on U.S. weapons and funding for the government of Israel. How we check

Gerald Malloy

Republican · U.S. House, Vermont District 1

How this mark works

We track key votes on sending U.S. weapons and money to the government of Israel. A check means every tracked vote they cast came down against sending more, on the side of peace and de-escalation. A question mark means a mixed record: they sided with sending up to half of the time. An X means they voted to send more weapons and money in over half of their tracked votes, even as the way those weapons and dollars were being used became more and more obvious. At exactly half, money this election cycle from a lobbying group we track, or an endorsement from a group that backs sending weapons, makes it an X. Only votes actually cast are counted. Where a candidate has no recorded votes on these bills, the mark comes instead from a reviewed reading of their public record (money from the lobbying groups we track, endorsements, and their own words since January 26, 2024). There an X also covers fully backing the conduct of the war by the government of Israel without significant reservations, and a question mark also covers speaking about Israel without saying clearly where they stand on U.S. weapons and funding. A dash means No Position Found: we found nothing in their own words about Israel, Gaza or the war.

See a dash? Ask the candidate where they stand, then send us their answer and we'll review it and update the mark. Or volunteer to help review candidates.

No recorded votes on the bills we track. In their own words on July 22, 2024.

Malloy, in his 2024 Senate run, called Sen. Sanders’ resolutions to block a weapons sale to Israel “yet another going nowhere publicity stunt” and told VTDigger the U.S. should back Israel with military equipment to defeat Hamas. Nothing located yet from his 2026 House campaign.

Deep Dive

Malloy, an Army veteran, is the Republican nominee for Vermont’s at-large House seat after Senate runs in 2022 and 2024; his located record is from the 2024 cycle and is carried with that stated.

In his July 2024 VTDigger candidate questionnaire, verified: "The US should support its ally Israel in the Middle East with military equipment in defeating the terrorist organization Hamas and ensuring the security of the Nation of Israel." In September 2024, as the Vermont Daily Chronicle reported, he attacked Sen. Sanders’ disapproval resolutions against a U.S. weapons sale as "yet another going nowhere publicity stunt", supporting the sale. In an August 2024 letter to the editor, verified, he criticized Vermont’s congressional delegation: "We’ve seen all three members of Vermont’s Congressional delegation skip the Israel PM’s visit... Now is not the time to check out."

His September 2024 claim that "the weakness of the progressive left and its foreign policy of supporting Iran led to the Hamas terrorist attack on Israel" is Iran-framed and sits on the research page. No statement on aid to Palestinians or antisemitism was located, and nothing yet from the 2026 campaign.

In their words
