But What Can You Do? tracks where 2026 candidates stand on U.S. weapons and funding for the government of Israel. How we check

Andrew Beck

Democrat · U.S. House, Wisconsin District 5
–
How this mark works

We track key votes on sending U.S. weapons and money to the government of Israel. A check means every tracked vote they cast came down against sending more, on the side of peace and de-escalation. A question mark means a mixed record: they sided with sending up to half of the time. An X means they voted to send more weapons and money in over half of their tracked votes, even as the way those weapons and dollars were being used became more and more obvious. At exactly half, money this election cycle from a lobbying group we track, or an endorsement from a group that backs sending weapons, makes it an X. Only votes actually cast are counted. Where a candidate has no recorded votes on these bills, the mark comes instead from a reviewed reading of their public record (money from the lobbying groups we track, endorsements, and their own words since January 26, 2024). There an X also covers fully backing the conduct of the war by the government of Israel without significant reservations, and a question mark also covers speaking about Israel without saying clearly where they stand on U.S. weapons and funding. A dash means No Position Found: we found nothing in their own words about Israel, Gaza or the war.

See a dash? Ask the candidate where they stand, then send us their answer and we'll review it and update the mark. Or volunteer to help review candidates.

No recorded votes on the bills we track. We found nothing in their own words about Israel, Gaza or the war.

Nothing located as of September 2026 has Beck taking a position on U.S. weapons or money for the government of Israel, or on U.S. aid to Palestinians. His fourteen policy statements do not reach these questions, and neither do the questionnaires he has answered.

Deep Dive

Andrew Beck, who campaigns as Andy, is the Democratic nominee in Wisconsin's 5th District, which covers Milwaukee's western suburbs, all of Jefferson County and part of Dodge County. He was born in Milwaukee, went to Milwaukee Public Schools, trained as a radiologic technologist and worked as an MRI technologist before joining a medical imaging company in Waukesha, where he led product development while earning an MBA. His mother worked for the Milwaukee schools and his father at Briggs & Stratton, both union members, and he describes that as the fight he would take to Washington. He lives in West Bend. He advanced unopposed from the Democratic primary on August 11, 2026 and is running on November 3, 2026 against the incumbent Republican Scott Fitzgerald, the only other candidate in the district.

This is an empty record on these questions rather than a thin one. His campaign's issues page sets out fourteen priorities, each with its own published policy statement, and they run from housing, farming and data centers to Social Security, Medicare, mental health, veterans, immigration, climate and the parks. Israel, Gaza, Palestinians, Hamas and foreign aid appear in none of them, and none of the fourteen is about foreign policy at all. The same is true of his campaign's press releases, its news listing and its endorsements page. He answered every question on Ballotpedia's candidate questionnaire, in 2024 and again in 2025, including one asking what he takes to be the country's greatest challenges over the next decade; that answer names keeping democracy alive and combating global warming and stops there. When a Milwaukee public radio station put five questions to both candidates in this race in July 2026, he answered all five and none of the five was about foreign policy. An empty record carries no implication either way.

The nearest his published material comes is an argument about money in politics. He has joined a pledge to ban congressional stock trading, refuse corporate committee money and crack down on undisclosed political spending, and he has written that untraceable money buying candidates their way into office is bad for American democracy. He names no organization on this subject anywhere, and a refusal of political money is a separate thing from a position on what the United States sends.

His campaign's accounts on Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, Bluesky, Threads and YouTube could not be read here, and one post of his that our research named, about a local mayor's social media, is at an address that would not open. Those addresses are on his research page so that anyone who can open them may look.

You are better placed to change this than we are. Ask Beck directly, or at a candidate forum, and send us the reply: it goes on this page in his own words, which is worth more than anything we could write about him.

Research log

The notes behind this card: what we looked at, what we found, and where each item came from.

Every page named below was opened and read on 2026-09-20 unless the entry says otherwise. His campaign site was read in full: the home page, the about page, the issues page and all fourteen policy statements linked from it, the three press releases, the news listing, the endorsements page, the events page and the press kit. His Ballotpedia page and both of his candidate questionnaires were read in full. Bands: Position (2024-01-26 onward), Reaction window (2023-10-07 to 2024-01-25), Earlier record (before 2023-10-07), Undated. He has held no office, so this record carries no votes.

U.S. military aid and weapons to the government of Israel

  • Nothing located at any date, in either direction. A case-insensitive search of every page and document named above for israel, gaza, palestin, hamas, antisemit, jewish, foreign aid, middle east, unrwa, aipac, arms and weapons returns nothing at all.
  • [Undated; wrong page] Our research reported that on March 5, 2026 his campaign page on Facebook commented on joint American and Israeli strikes against Iran, arguing that strikes without prior congressional authorization violated Article I. The only address it gave for that claim is https://www.facebook.com/pbswi/posts/us-sen-ron-johnson-r-wisconsin-discusses-the-trump-administration-launching-stri/1487909669359736/ , which is a PBS Wisconsin post about Senator Ron Johnson, not a post of his, and which refused to open in any case. No statement of his about those strikes could be found anywhere. Nothing is written from it, and the claim is not treated as his.

U.S. aid to Palestinians

  • Nothing located at any date, in either direction.

Characterization of the conflict

  • Nothing located at any date.

Israel-related rhetoric and lobbying

  • [Undated; read 2026-09-20] His endorsements page lists four backers: Moms Demand Action, which describes itself as working for gun violence prevention; Mental Health Now; Take Back Congress, a group of candidates pledging what it calls balance and accountability; and Unrig Washington, a campaign run by Stop Big Money, which he says calls for “banning Congressional stock trading, refusing corporate PAC money, and cracking down on dark money.” No Israel-related organization appears on the page.
  • [Position, 2025; read 2026-09-20] In his Ballotpedia questionnaire he writes: “All the dark money and other groups using funds to buy their candidate’s way into office is not good for American democracy.” He names no organization. A refusal of political money is never read here as a position on what the United States sends.
  • [Undated; read 2026-09-20] His campaign's press release about that pledge. It concerns congressional stock trading, corporate committee money and undisclosed spending, and names no foreign policy subject.

Safety and antisemitism (context, not an answer to what America sends)

  • [Position, 2026-08-24; could not be read] Our research reported that his campaign called for the resignation of the mayor of New Berlin over reports of Islamophobic and racist social media posts, and quoted two sentences from it: “The people of New Berlin deserve a mayor who respects every resident—regardless of race, religion, gender or background” and “Hate and discrimination have no place in New Berlin, Wisconsin, or public service”. The address it gave, https://www.facebook.com/61573557437825/posts/what-we-are-seeing-from-new-berlin-mayor-dave-ament-is-unacceptablerecent-report/122194510040785247/ , refused every attempt on 2026-09-20, so neither sentence is verified and neither is quoted on the card. The numeric page identifier in that address does resolve: his own campaign site's footer links https://www.facebook.com/profile/61573557437825 as its Facebook page, so the page is his campaign's, whatever the post says. The subject is prejudice against Muslims in a Wisconsin suburb, which is context rather than an answer about what America sends.
  • No statement of his about antisemitism was located.

What the campaign site and own pages say

  • [Read 2026-09-20] His campaign site and its issues page, which lists fourteen priorities: protecting democracy, a woman's healthcare rights, Social Security, Medicare, farmers, veterans, unions, climate, education and free trade school places, mental health, wildlife and parks, data centers, immigration and housing. Each links a published policy statement. Five of the fourteen are text documents that were read in full and none mentions this subject; the other nine are scanned pages whose text could not be extracted, and all nine of those carry domestic titles: immigration, mental health, Medicare and Medicaid, Social Security, protecting our democracy, free trade school places, climate change, wildlife and parks, and a woman's healthcare rights.
  • [Read 2026-09-20] His about page, about eight hundred words of biography, and the three campaign press releases: the Unrig Washington pledge, a mental health designation and the launch of a coalition of fourteen candidates in the district. None of the three names a foreign policy subject.
  • [Read 2026-09-20] His campaign's news listing, which points to five items of coverage between October 2025 and July 2026, and its events page.
  • [Position, 2025 and 2024; read 2026-09-20] His Ballotpedia candidate questionnaires. He completed the survey in 2024 and again in 2025 and answered eighteen questions in the later one, including the three required questions and fifteen optional ones. The three key messages he lists are democracy, healthcare and the environment. Asked what he takes to be the country's greatest challenges over the next decade he names keeping democracy alive in the United States and combating global warming. Asked what committees interest him he names Natural Resources, Homeland Security, and Science, Space, and Technology. No question in either survey asks about foreign policy and no answer in either reaches it, which is a fact about the form as much as about him.
  • [Position, 2026-07-13, updated 2026-08-12] WUWM's voter guide for this district. The station put five questions to both candidates: why they are running and what qualifies them, federal policies to lower the cost of living, securing federal funding and its priority areas, which Trump administration policies they most support and most oppose, and notable endorsements. He answered all five. None of the five concerns foreign policy, and none of his answers reaches this subject. His answer on the administration names manufacturing and trade on the support side and democracy, voting, reproductive healthcare and Social Security on the other.

The race

  • [Read 2026-09-20] Ballotpedia's page for the 2026 election in Wisconsin's 5th District: “Incumbent Scott Fitzgerald and Andrew Beck are running in the general election for U.S. House Wisconsin District 5 on November 3, 2026.” The two names are the whole field; Ballotpedia prints its own caution that a candidate list may not be complete. Wisconsin's partisan primary was held on August 11, 2026, and both men advanced unopposed. This agrees with the record, which holds the same two candidates. WUWM's guide names the same two. The other candidate's record belongs on his own card.
  • [Read 2026-09-20] His Ballotpedia page also records that he sought this seat in 2024 and did not reach the ballot; another candidate was the Democratic nominee that year.

Places that could not be read, so nothing is claimed from them

  • The Wisconsin Elections Commission's own certified list of candidates on the November 3, 2026 ballot. The Commission's site at https://elections.wi.gov/candidates/federal-candidates refused ordinary retrieval, and the list itself could not be located at an address that opened, so the field above is stated from Ballotpedia and from the public voter guide instead.
  • The post about the mayor of New Berlin, at https://www.facebook.com/61573557437825/posts/what-we-are-seeing-from-new-berlin-mayor-dave-ament-is-unacceptablerecent-report/122194510040785247/ , which refused every attempt on 2026-09-20.
  • The address our research gave for a March 2026 statement of his, https://www.facebook.com/pbswi/posts/us-sen-ron-johnson-r-wisconsin-discusses-the-trump-administration-launching-stri/1487909669359736/ , which is a PBS Wisconsin post about a senator and refused every attempt in any case.
  • His candidate page at https://pbswisconsin.org/candidate/andrew-beck/ , which refused every attempt on 2026-09-20 by every route tried.
  • Nine of the fourteen policy statements on his campaign site, which are scans with no readable text: immigration, mental health, Medicare and Medicaid, Social Security, protecting our democracy, free trade school places, climate change, wildlife and parks, and a woman's healthcare rights. A reader can open each of them from the issues page and read the scan.
  • His campaign's accounts at https://www.facebook.com/profile/61573557437825 , https://www.instagram.com/beckforcongress/ , https://www.tiktok.com/@beckforcongress , https://bsky.app/profile/beck5thcd.bsky.social , https://www.threads.com/@beckforcongress and https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCrZcU0YnnKTQfLMdlbQRLhw . None was read here and no video was watched for this card.

Not on the card, and why

  • The claim that he commented on American and Israeli strikes against Iran in March 2026. Its only address is a public television station's post about a senator, not his page, and nothing of his on that subject could be found. Set out above with the address.
  • The statement about the mayor of New Berlin. It could not be read, so neither of the sentences our research quoted is verified; and its subject is prejudice against Muslims in a Wisconsin suburb, which is context rather than an answer about what the United States sends.
  • His pledge to refuse corporate committee money and his argument about undisclosed political spending, treated as a position on weapons or funding. A money-refusal is a separate thing and is never read here as a position on what the United States sends.
  • The housing, farming, data center, Social Security, Medicare, mental health, veterans, immigration, climate, education, union and parks material that fills his platform. Out of scope. The subjects are named above so a reader can see what the rest of his platform covers.
  • Scott Fitzgerald's record. Another candidate's record belongs on that candidate's own card.
