But What Can You Do? tracks where 2026 candidates stand on U.S. weapons and funding for the government of Israel. How we check

Zuhdi Jasser

Republican · U.S. House, Arizona District 4
?
How this mark works

We track key votes on sending U.S. weapons and money to the government of Israel. A check means every tracked vote they cast came down against sending more, on the side of peace and de-escalation. A question mark means a mixed record: they sided with sending up to half of the time. An X means they voted to send more weapons and money in over half of their tracked votes, even as the way those weapons and dollars were being used became more and more obvious. At exactly half, money this election cycle from a lobbying group we track, or an endorsement from a group that backs sending weapons, makes it an X. Only votes actually cast are counted. Where a candidate has no recorded votes on these bills, the mark comes instead from a reviewed reading of their public record (money from the lobbying groups we track, endorsements, and their own words since January 26, 2024). There an X also covers fully backing the conduct of the war by the government of Israel without significant reservations, and a question mark also covers speaking about Israel without saying clearly where they stand on U.S. weapons and funding. A dash means No Position Found: we found nothing in their own words about Israel, Gaza or the war.

See a dash? Ask the candidate where they stand, then send us their answer and we'll review it and update the mark. Or volunteer to help review candidates.

Two reviewers, reading the public record as a whole, agree: In June 2024 campaign literature he writes that supporters of the U.S.-Israel alliance "will find no member of Congress stronger in his support than I", without saying where he stands on U.S. weapons and funding for the government of Israel. Reviewed by hand on 2026-10-09. This candidate has no recorded tracked floor votes.

Nothing located as of September 2026 has Jasser taking a position on U.S. weapons or money for the government of Israel. His campaign plan does not reach the subject. A 2024 column quoted his campaign literature saying no member of Congress would back the alliance with Israel more strongly.

Deep Dive

Zuhdi Jasser is a Phoenix physician and a Navy veteran of eleven years who has run the Jasser Center for Comprehensive Care since settling in Arizona in 1999. He founded the American Islamic Forum for Democracy, a group he set up in 2003 to argue for reform within Islam and against political Islam, and he co-founded the Muslim Reform Movement. He advanced unopposed from the Republican primary on July 21, 2026 and faces Rep. Greg Stanton and Tisha Benoit on November 3, 2026. He has not held elected office, so there are no votes to set beside what he says.

He has spoken and written about the region for more than twenty years, and none of it that we could find sets out a position on what the United States should send to the government of Israel. His campaign plan runs to six sections, on costs, the budget, the border, education, health care and national security, and never mentions Israel, Gaza or foreign aid; nor do his biography page, his endorsements page or his events page. The platform he ran on in 2024 named Israel once, in a passage about pressure on Iran. In June 2024 the columnist Daniel Pipes quoted his campaign literature in The Washington Times: supporters of the alliance between the United States and Israel would find no member of Congress stronger in his support. That is a statement about the alliance rather than about weapons or money, and the literature it comes from is not on his site now.

What he has published is mostly about the conflict and about antisemitism. In September 2022 he wrote in White Rose Magazine that no idea has given Islamist movements more return on their radicalization investment than “Palestinianism” and its marriage with Islamism and Hamas; the rest of that essay is behind a subscription. In 2019, speaking to a United Israel Appeal luncheon in Australia, he accused Rep. Ilhan Omar of veiling antisemitism as criticism of Israel. In February 2013 he told a House Foreign Affairs subcommittee that antisemitism is a canary in the coal mine for the threat against all people, all faiths, and liberty. His campaign held an evening on antisemitism in August 2026 with a rabbi and a radio host. His statements from October and November 2023, a September 2025 television appearance about the Abraham Accords that could not be opened, and everything else found under his name are on his research page.

You are better placed to change this than we are. Ask Jasser directly, or at a candidate event, and send us the reply: it goes on this page in his own words, which is worth more than anything we could write about him.

Research log

The notes behind this card: what we looked at, what we found, and where each item came from.

Every page listed below was opened and read on 2026-09-07 unless the entry says otherwise, and his campaign site was read in full, along with his 2024 campaign platform as it stood in June 2024. Bands: Position (2024-01-26 onward), Reaction window (2023-10-07 to 2024-01-25), Earlier record (before 2023-10-07), Undated. He has never held office, so none of the congressional votes this site tracks are his, and no tracked funding is recorded on this record.

U.S. military aid and weapons to the government of Israel

  • Nothing located, at any date, that states a position on what the United States should send.
  • [Position, 2024-06-03] Daniel Pipes, “Dr. Zuhdi Jasser: Congress’ Potentially Most Important New Member”, published in The Washington Times and reproduced by the Middle East Forum, which Pipes founded. The column quotes Jasser’s campaign literature: “Supporters of the alliance between the United States and Israel will find no member of Congress stronger in his support than I. ... I have long-been an advocate of a strong Israel, and at significant personal risk and cost to me and my family. ... Support for Israel is support for America.” The three sentences are separated by ellipses in the column, so they are printed here as the column prints them and are not joined into one span anywhere on this card. The campaign literature itself was not found. The statement is about the alliance; it names no programme, no sum and no weapon.
  • [Position; read 2026-09-07] His campaign plan sets out six sections: lower costs and a strong economy; balancing our budget; strong borders; world-class education for all kids; quality health care; strong national security. The national security section calls for military readiness, a higher share of national output spent on defence, and an American presence “in the war of ideas for liberty and freedom” against Marxism, socialism and Islamism, naming China, Iran and Qatar as the actors who fill the vacuum. Israel, Gaza, Palestinians, foreign aid and arms transfers do not appear. His biography page, his endorsements page, his events page and his contact page do not mention them either.
  • [Earlier record, read as it stood 2024-06-20] His 2024 campaign platform, at the address the campaign then used, is preserved at a saved copy from June 20, 2024. Its one mention of Israel is inside the section on Iran: “We must put maximum pressure on Iran, restore economic sanctions, support Israel, keep the IRGC’s designation as a terror group, and push back on the economic opening of Tehran – a mistake that would be similar to the one we made in China.” The same text is reproduced under his own heading on his Ballotpedia page. Neither the platform nor the survey answers beside it says anything about United States weapons or money for the government of Israel.
  • [Position, 2025-09-16; could not be opened] Our research reports a Newsmax appearance in which he praised the Abraham Accords on their fifth anniversary. The address, https://www.newsmax.com/newsmax-tv/zuhdi-jasser-abraham-accords-israel/2025/09/16/id/1226645/, could not be opened, and a television segment is not something we can read in any case. Nothing is claimed from it.
  • [Reaction window, late 2023; not confirmed] Our research reports an interview on The Chris Salcedo Show on Newsmax in which he criticized the Biden administration for trying to make Israel fight “with one hand tied behind its back”. No address was offered for it, no day is given, and our own search did not find it. Not confirmed, not used, and it would fall in the weeks this site keeps to research pages in any case.

U.S. aid to Palestinians

  • Nothing located, at any date. Neither his campaign site, nor his 2024 platform, nor his Ballotpedia entry, nor any piece read for this card carries a statement from him on humanitarian funding for Gaza, on UNRWA or on the aid pipeline.

Characterization of the conflict

  • [Earlier record, 2022-09-08] His essay “Palestinianism is the Natural Front for Islamism” in White Rose Magazine. The opening line, which is the part of the essay a reader without a subscription can see, reads: “No single idea has given Islamist movements more return on their radicalization investment than “Palestinianism” and the marriage of that national identity movement with Islamism and HAMAS.” The rest is behind a subscription and was not read, so nothing further is attributed to it.
  • [Position, 2025-09-16; could not be opened] The Newsmax appearance on the Abraham Accords, described above.
  • [Reaction window, 2023-10-09] The Combat Antisemitism Movement’s report of a statement by the Council of Muslims Against Antisemitism, which collects short comments from several people. His, in full, is: “Today we are all Israelis!” The Council of Muslims Against Antisemitism is a group of Muslim writers and activists that campaigns against antisemitism; the Combat Antisemitism Movement is a coalition that reports on the same subject. Not on the card summary; recorded here with its date.
  • [Reaction window, 2023-10-25] Gregory R. Smith, “Hamas Does Not Speak for Islam”, in the Jewish Journal, an opinion piece collecting the same comments. It renders his as: “Today,” writes Dr. Zuhdi Jasser, founder and president of the American Islamic Forum for Democracy, “we are all Israelis.” The words are his; the framing around them is the author’s. Not on the card summary; recorded here with its date.
  • [Reaction window, 2023-11-12; could not be opened] Our research reports that he spoke against a resolution before the American Medical Association’s House of Delegates calling for a ceasefire, arguing it was outside the profession’s remit to adjudicate just and unjust wars. The address, https://www.medpagetoday.com/meetingcoverage/ama/107302, could not be opened, so the account is not confirmed. It falls in the weeks this site keeps to research pages in any case.

Related rhetoric and lobbying

  • [Position, 2026-09-07] Kerry Picket, “House campaign in Arizona puts a spotlight on perceived Marxist-Islamist threat”, The Washington Times, an interview with him. He describes a set of Democratic candidates as the Council on American-Islamic Relations’ “red-greed farm team” and says: “That farm team is not necessarily emblematic of people who are Americans that happen to be Muslim. This is really a worldview group that is of the Islamist mindset.” On the same organization: “CAIR folks are Muslim Brotherhood legacy groups.” The Council on American-Islamic Relations is a Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization; the article describes the Muslim Brotherhood as a transnational Islamist movement. Of his opponent he says: “He may vote with Israel but has never been able to prosecute the case against the radicals in his own party.” Nothing in the interview states a position on United States weapons or money for the government of Israel. The article also contains a paragraph summarising the incumbent’s record and his backing from the American Israel Public Affairs Committee; that paragraph is about the incumbent and not about Jasser, and belongs on the incumbent’s own page.
  • [Earlier record, 2019-03-24] Peter Kohn, “Reformist slams American Muslim politician’s gibes”, The Australian Jewish News, reporting a United Israel Appeal luncheon he addressed. The paper writes that he “slammed American Muslim Congresswoman Ilhan Omar for her track record of antisemitic comments”, and quotes him: Omar practises “the new antisemitism of how they veil criticism of Israel as being actually just Israel, when it’s obviously rank antisemitism”. He is also quoted saying militant Islamism is “a Muslim problem that requires a Muslim solution”, and that Israel cannot allow “militant, genocidal imams” to affect its security, “so you’ve had to defend yourselves”. United Israel Appeal is a fundraising organisation for immigration to and settlement in Israel. The page’s byline reads March 24, 2019; its own date tag reads March 23, 2019.
  • No endorsement by the American Israel Public Affairs Committee is recorded for him. His campaign’s endorsements page lists former Senator Jon Kyl, former Phoenix city councilman Sal DiCiccio, the author and radio host Seth Leibsohn, and Kelly Cooper, the party’s 2024 nominee for this seat; his Ballotpedia page adds former Governor Jan Brewer and former Senator Rick Santorum. The organization appears on neither.

Safety and antisemitism (context, not a position on what America sends)

  • [Earlier record, 2013-02-27] His testimony to the House Foreign Affairs Subcommittee on Africa, Global Health, Global Human Rights, and International Organizations, at the hearing “Anti-Semitism: A Growing Threat to All Faiths”, in the printed hearing record. He said: “I must first thank the committee for taking the time to focus on this very important issue of anti-Semitism and its important role as a canary in the coal mine, if you will, for the threat against all people, all faiths, and liberty.” And: “Anti-Semitism is not just another symptom from a radical fringe of Islamist groups. It runs much deeper.” The testimony argues that confronting political Islam is necessary to reduce antisemitism worldwide. It says nothing about United States aid of any kind to the government of Israel.
  • [Position, 2026-08-27] His campaign’s events page lists an evening titled “Antisemitism: The Test of Our Time” on August 27, 2026, with the radio host Seth Leibsohn and Rabbi Pinchas Allouche, described as “a Muslim and a Jew on stage together for America”. The page carries no account of what was said.
  • [Earlier record, 2016-01-27; could not be opened] Our research reports an opinion piece he co-wrote with Thomas J. Reese for USA Today on International Holocaust Remembrance Day, calling for greater protection of Jewish communities in Europe. The address offered, https://www.uscirf.gov/news-room/op-eds/usa-today-remember-holocaust-fighting-anti-semitism-column, could not be opened. Not confirmed, and not used.
  • [Reaction window, 2023-10-09] The Council of Muslims Against Antisemitism statement above also belongs to this dimension.

Places that could not be read, so nothing is claimed from them

  • His campaign Facebook page, https://www.facebook.com/DrZ4AZ/, which is linked from his campaign site and is therefore his, returns an error and could not be opened.
  • His campaign X account, https://x.com/DrZforAZ, which is linked from his campaign site, returns a not-found page.
  • His campaign YouTube channel, https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCr_8NTXRAYG9hTBObAXySbQ, opens as a page titled “Dr. Zuhdi Jasser for US Congress” but shows no video titles to us, and video is not something we can read.
  • His campaign Instagram account, https://www.instagram.com/drzuhdijasser.
  • Two posts on other organisations’ Facebook pages that our research returned under his name, https://www.facebook.com/MiddleEastEye/posts/a-physical-altercation-broke-out-between-former-republican-congressional-candida/1518335910329842/ and https://www.facebook.com/JTAnews/posts/hasan-piker-favors-hamas-is-pushing-dems-to-be-anti-israel-and-wants-jews-not-to/2114991309365131/. Neither opened, and neither is his own account, so we cannot say whether either is about him at all.
  • https://www.newsmax.com/newsmax-tv/zuhdi-jasser-abraham-accords-israel/2025/09/16/id/1226645/ and https://www.medpagetoday.com/meetingcoverage/ama/107302, neither of which could be opened.
  • https://www.localcandidates.org/politicians/zuhdi-jasser carries a page for him; that site does not open for us at all and is never used as a source.

Not on the card, and why

  • The October and November 2023 items, including the Council of Muslims Against Antisemitism statement, the Jewish Journal piece and the reported American Medical Association remarks: they fall in the weeks this site records here rather than on cards. They are set out above with their dates.
  • His statements about Iran and about the Muslim Brotherhood, and his 2024 platform’s call for maximum pressure on Iran: Iran is a different question from what the United States sends to the government of Israel.
  • The Council on American-Islamic Relations material in the September 2026 interview, and his 2019 remarks about Rep. Ilhan Omar: rhetoric and lobbying, recorded above. They do not answer what the United States sends.
  • The 2013 testimony, the 2016 opinion piece and the 2026 campaign event on antisemitism: context, and none of it answers what the United States sends.
  • Rep. Greg Stanton’s record and his backing from the American Israel Public Affairs Committee, both of which appear in the September 2026 interview: they belong to the incumbent’s own page, not to this one.
  • The unlocated Newsmax interview of late 2023: no address was offered and our own search did not find it.
