But What Can You Do? tracks where 2026 candidates stand on U.S. weapons and funding for the government of Israel. How we check

Mark Lamb

Republican · U.S. House, Arizona District 5

How this mark works

We track key votes on sending U.S. weapons and money to the government of Israel. A check means every tracked vote they cast came down against sending more, on the side of peace and de-escalation. A question mark means a mixed record: they sided with sending up to half of the time. An X means they voted to send more weapons and money in over half of their tracked votes, even as the way those weapons and dollars were being used became more and more obvious. At exactly half, money this election cycle from a lobbying group we track, or an endorsement from a group that backs sending weapons, makes it an X. Only votes actually cast are counted. Where a candidate has no recorded votes on these bills, the mark comes instead from a reviewed reading of their public record (money from the lobbying groups we track, endorsements, and their own words since January 26, 2024). There an X also covers fully backing the conduct of the war by the government of Israel without significant reservations, and a question mark also covers speaking about Israel without saying clearly where they stand on U.S. weapons and funding. A dash means No Position Found: we found nothing in their own words about Israel, Gaza or the war.

See a dash? Ask the candidate where they stand, then send us their answer and we'll review it and update the mark. Or volunteer to help review candidates.

Two reviewers, reading the public record as a whole, agree: His campaign's own post has him opposing the February 2024 package for its significant funds to Ukraine and Israel, and his later words say to stop sending money overseas; nothing in his words points the other way. Reviewed by hand on 2026-09-28. This candidate has no recorded tracked floor votes.

Deep Dive

Mark Lamb is the Republican nominee in Arizona’s 5th District and faces Democrat Elizabeth Lee on November 3, 2026. The seat is open and no incumbent is running for it. He was sheriff of Pinal County from 2017 to 2024 and ran for the U.S. Senate in 2024, losing the Republican primary to Kari Lake. He has held no federal office, so there are no votes to set beside what he says.

The fullest statement of his own about money going abroad came in that Senate race. On February 7, 2024 his campaign published a statement on the border bill then before the Senate in which he said “This isn't a border bill, but a global aid bill that is more concerned about what is happening overseas than to our own border at home”. The statement listed what the bill authorized, among them $9.2 billion for global humanitarian assistance to Ukraine, Gaza, East Africa, South Asia and elsewhere and $85 million for Arab partners in the Middle East to enhance counter terrorism capabilities. The day before, his campaign wrote that he had criticized the same bill for the significant funds it sent to Ukraine and Israel and had condemned it as a disguised global aid package. Those are the only places in his own campaign’s words where money to the region is named, and neither says what the United States should send the government of Israel.

His 2026 campaign site does not use the word Israel on any of its 98 pages. Two of its posts describe what he has said about foreign aid without naming a country. One says that asked about foreign aid he said the United States must prioritize Americans first, and criticized the federal government for sending billions abroad while citizens face rising debt and poverty at home. The other says he put it in plain terms: America is broke, every dollar sent overseas is borrowed money.

His one recorded characterization of the conflict came in a May 21, 2024 interview about border security, where he said “We saw Hamas go into a very protected and very secure Israel and do what they did. Atrocities. Terrorism.” The rest of that answer is about the southern border. Our research found nothing from him on arms transfers, on Foreign Military Financing or on the memorandum of understanding, and nothing from him on antisemitism. One report of him speaking directly about aid to Israel, and one account of what a lobbying organization is said to have written about his position, could not be confirmed and are set out on his research page with what was and was not established. Ask Lamb directly and send us the reply: it goes on this page in his own words.

Research log

The notes behind this card: what we looked at, what we found, and where each item came from.

Our research for this card began with a search run on September 7, 2026. His 2026 campaign site was then read in full on the same day, all 98 addresses listed in its own index, together with the surviving pages of his 2024 Senate campaign site, his Ballotpedia entry and the Arizona 5th District race page, his 2026 iVoterGuide profile, his Wikipedia entry, the Recoil Magazine interview, an Arizona Daily Independent account of a candidate forum, and a Media Matters report. Bands: Position (2024-01-26 onward), Reaction window (2023-10-07 to 2024-01-25), Earlier record (before 2023-10-07), Undated. He has no recorded votes on this record and no tracked funding.

U.S. military aid and weapons for the government of Israel

  • [Position, 2024-02-07] A statement his Senate campaign published under the headline that he called the U.S. Senate border bill “Garbage” and “Another Global Aid Package Masquerading as a Border Solution”. The statement reads in part: “This isn't a border bill, but a global aid bill that is more concerned about what is happening overseas than to our own border at home. This bill has $60 billion going to Ukraine. And $300 million to “promote the rule of law” in Ukraine while our elected representatives ignore the rule of law here at home.” It then lists what it says the bill further authorizes, including: “-- $9.2 billion dollars in taxpayer monies to sustain global humanitarian assistance by providing assistance to Ukraine, Gaza, East Africa, South Asia, and elsewhere... and an additional $850 million for the Western Hemisphere.” and “-- $85 million for support to Arab partners in the Middle East to enhance counter terrorism capabilities.” and “-- $2 billion in foreign military financing to support partners in the Indo-Pacific region... to mitigate the economic impacts of Russia's war against Ukraine... and by the People's Republic of China to advance its own interests.” The ellipses are the statement’s own. It asks the Senate to “push a stand-alone bill that immediately addresses the crisis at the border.” The original address no longer resolves and the copy read for this card is the archived one linked here.
  • [Position, 2024-02-06] A post on the same campaign site summarizing an interview he gave to Real America’s Voice: “U.S. Senate candidate Sheriff Mark Lamb criticized the bipartisan border bill, emphasizing its allocation of over $118 billion, with significant funds going to Ukraine and Israel. He condemned the bill as a disguised global aid package, expressing disgust at its lack of focus on border security.” This is his campaign’s account of what he said on air, not a transcript, and the interview itself is a video that was not watched for this card.
  • [Position, 2024-02-07] A third post on the same site, summarizing a Newsmax interview, says he criticized the same bill for “its significant allocation to Ukraine and funding for non-governmental organizations (NGOs)” and argued that the border provisions should be separated from the global ones. It does not name Israel.
  • [Position, 2025-10-25] A post on his 2026 campaign site about an appearance on the Matt Gaetz podcast: “When asked about foreign aid, Lamb was direct, saying the United States must prioritize Americans first. He criticized the federal government for sending billions abroad while citizens face rising debt and poverty at home. Lamb quoted Alexis de Tocqueville to warn against a Congress that uses taxpayer money to “bribe the people with the people’s money.”” No country is named.
  • [Position, 2026-04-06] A post on his 2026 campaign site about the Lunatics and Legends podcast: “Lamb laid out his view on foreign aid in plain terms. America is broke. Every dollar sent overseas is borrowed money. The American people are done with it. He said if his own household were in the kind of financial disarray the federal government is in, the first thing any responsible person would do is stop sending money out the door.” No country is named.
  • [Position, reported 2024-06-27; not confirmed] Our research reports that at a Republican Senate primary debate on June 26, 2024, asked whether the United States should send aid to Ukraine and Israel, Lamb said: “We need to support Israel, they’re our friends and I think the way we support them is not necessarily through cash”. The only source offered is a Peoria Independent report by Janet Perez, whose opening lines and June 27, 2024 date can be read here and whose body is behind a subscription. The words above could not be read at any address available to us, so they are not confirmed, are not quoted on the card and are not entered as a quotation of his. If this were confirmed it would be the most direct thing he has said on this question.
  • [Position, reported after 2026-07-21; not confirmed] Our research reports that after the July 21, 2026 primary the American Israel Public Affairs Committee wrote in a campaign memorandum that Lamb opposes U.S. aid to Israel as part of a platform of zero foreign aid, and that the group did not endorse or take part in this race for that reason. No memorandum was found. The only address offered for it is a Facebook post by an outlet called Zeteo News whose own address is about a different subject entirely, and it did not open. Nothing here is confirmed and none of it is on the card. The American Israel Public Affairs Committee is a lobbying organization that works to strengthen the United States relationship with the government of Israel, and since 2021 it has run political committees that give money directly to candidates.
  • [Undated; read 2026-09-07] His 2026 iVoterGuide profile carries a questionnaire with thirty-odd items, including “Is the United States' relationship with Israel important, and if so why?” and a foreign policy question offering four levels of intervention. Every single item on the form reads “Did not answer”, and so do the education, work, affiliations and offices fields. That is a fact about the form rather than about him, and no inference is drawn from it here.
  • Nothing located has him addressing U.S. arms transfers, weapons sales, Foreign Military Financing or the memorandum of understanding with the government of Israel. His 2026 campaign site does not contain the word Israel on any of its 98 pages.

U.S. aid to Palestinians

  • [Position, 2024-02-07] The February 2024 statement quoted above is the only place his own words reach this question. It names the $9.2 billion global humanitarian assistance line, which it says provides assistance “to Ukraine, Gaza, East Africa, South Asia, and elsewhere”, among the reasons the bill should not pass. It does not single Gaza out and does not say what should happen to humanitarian funding on its own.
  • Nothing located has him addressing UNRWA or the aid pipeline into Gaza.

Characterization of the conflict

  • [Position, 2024-05-21] An interview with Recoil Magazine, answering a question about the southern border: “We saw Hamas go into a very protected and very secure Israel and do what they did. Atrocities. Terrorism. And we see those same types of people coming into our borders all the time”. The sentence before it, in the preceding paragraph, is “October 7, 2023, really exposed just how vulnerable we are.” The remainder of the answer is about people crossing the southern border and about fentanyl.
  • [Reaction window, 2023-12-15] A video interview with NTD News, published under the title “‘They’re Already Here,’ Sheriff Says of Terrorists Coming Across Border”, at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n9D0-sFuxoE. Our research reports that in it he said of people connected to Hamas that “they're already here”. It is a video and was not watched for this card, it falls inside the weeks this material is kept off cards, and its subject is the southern border rather than what the United States sends. It is recorded here and used nowhere else.
  • Nothing located has him using the words genocide or apartheid about this conflict, or setting out a position on a two-state outcome.

Related rhetoric and lobbying

  • [Position, 2024-05-24] An account of an AMAC Action candidate forum held on May 23, 2024, written by Jose Borrajero for the Arizona Daily Independent: “both candidates expressed support for secured borders, limited government, balanced budgets, protection of social security, reduction of the national debt, curbing inflation, promoting healthy businesses, reducing foreign aid, and avoiding involvement in foreign wars.” The two candidates are Lamb and Kari Lake. This is one attendee’s account of what both said jointly, so it supports only that collective wording, and it is another person speaking about him rather than his own words. It is not on the card.
  • [Position, reported; not confirmed] Our research reports an Arizona Republic opinion column by Laurie Roberts describing Lamb as “pro-Israel” and “pro-America”. The address offered for it is the Arizona Daily Independent piece above, which is a different publication by a different writer and contains neither phrase. No such column was found. Not confirmed, and not used. A columnist’s description of a candidate would in any case not be that candidate’s position.
  • The unconfirmed report about the American Israel Public Affairs Committee is set out above under military aid, where the claim it makes belongs.

Safety and antisemitism (context, not a position on what America sends)

  • [Earlier record, 2023-04-10] A report by Eric Hananoki for Media Matters for America, a media watchdog organization, headed “Likely Senate candidate Mark Lamb appeared on network that attacks “seditious Jews” and “Jewish tyrants””. It reports that Lamb appeared in August 2021 on TruNews, whose founder Rick Wiles it quotes at length making claims about Jewish people, and that during the program but before Lamb’s interview Wiles said: “This is what the Jews do against me every single day to squash, to squeeze anybody that is speaking up.” Of Lamb’s own segment the report says he “discussed “his ban on Vaccine Mandates for his officers and an American’s right to privacy” and “the surge in opioid deaths as the Mexican cartels smuggle fentanyl-laced heroin across the Southern Border.”” The report records no comment from Lamb about the network’s content, and our research found no response from him to it. This is another organization’s account of his appearance rather than a statement of his, so it stays on this page.
  • Nothing located has Lamb himself making a statement about antisemitism or about the safety of Jewish or Muslim communities.

The race

Identity

  • Every source used here is about Mark Lamb the former sheriff of Pinal County, Arizona, now the Republican nominee in Arizona’s 5th District. Two items offered by our research were about other people and are not used: a Seattle radio piece about a Washington state attorney of the same name, which did not open in any case, and a Washington state trail-planning document. His 2024 Senate record is used because it is the same person; where it is used, the year and the office are said.

Not on the card, and why

  • The June 2024 debate answer about supporting Israel “not necessarily through cash”: the only source is behind a subscription and the words could not be read. Set out above as reported and not confirmed.
  • The report about an American Israel Public Affairs Committee memorandum: no memorandum was found and the address offered was about a different subject. Set out above with what was checked.
  • The report of an Arizona Republic column calling him “pro-Israel”: no such column was found at the address offered, and a columnist’s description is not the candidate’s position.
  • The December 2023 NTD News video: it falls in the weeks this material is kept off cards, it is a video that was not watched, and its subject is the southern border.
  • His campaign’s general statements about foreign aid, on the Gaetz and Lunatics and Legends posts, are on the card, but not as an answer to this question: they name no country, so they do not say what the United States should send the government of Israel.
  • The Media Matters report and the material about him in his Wikipedia entry: they are other people’s accounts of his media appearances rather than statements of his. Set out above.
  • His border, immigration, election and public safety material, which is most of what he says: out of scope.
