But What Can You Do? tracks where 2026 candidates stand on U.S. weapons and funding for the government of Israel. How we check

Gary Swing

Green · U.S. House, Arizona District 6
✓
How this mark works

We track key votes on sending U.S. weapons and money to the government of Israel. A check means every tracked vote they cast came down against sending more, on the side of peace and de-escalation. A question mark means a mixed record: they sided with sending up to half of the time. An X means they voted to send more weapons and money in over half of their tracked votes, even as the way those weapons and dollars were being used became more and more obvious. At exactly half, money this election cycle from a lobbying group we track, or an endorsement from a group that backs sending weapons, makes it an X. Only votes actually cast are counted. Where a candidate has no recorded votes on these bills, the mark comes instead from a reviewed reading of their public record (money from the lobbying groups we track, endorsements, and their own words since January 26, 2024). There an X also covers fully backing the conduct of the war by the government of Israel without significant reservations, and a question mark also covers speaking about Israel without saying clearly where they stand on U.S. weapons and funding. A dash means No Position Found: we found nothing in their own words about Israel, Gaza or the war.

See a dash? Ask the candidate where they stand, then send us their answer and we'll review it and update the mark. Or volunteer to help review candidates.

Two reviewers, reading the public record as a whole, agree: In his own 2026 answers he says U.S. aid to Israel should be eliminated, calls for ending all foreign military aid, and calls what Israel has done in Gaza a genocide, with nothing pointing the other way. Reviewed by hand on 2026-10-01. This candidate has no recorded tracked floor votes.

Swing would end U.S. aid to the government of Israel. In a 2026 voter guide he wrote that "US aid to Israel should be eliminated" and called the U.S. government "the primary sponsor of Israeli apartheid and genocide." His platform says "Israel has committed genocide against Gaza."

Deep Dive

Gary Swing, a Tucson caregiver who calls himself a lifelong pacifist, is the Green Party nominee in Arizona's 6th District. He advanced from the Green Party primary on July 21, 2026 and faces Representative Juan Ciscomani, the Republican, JoAnna Mendoza, the Democrat, and Jereme Peters, the Libertarian, on November 3. He has been a Green Party and minor-party candidate many times since 1996, in Arizona and Colorado; in 2025 he lost the special Green primary for Arizona's 7th District. He has never held office, so there are no votes on this record.

His fullest statement is his answer to iVoterGuide's 2026 question on whether the relationship with Israel is important: "The United States government has been the primary sponsor of Israeli apartheid and genocide. US aid to Israel should be eliminated. I support international war crimes tribunals to try political and military leaders of both Israel and Hamas for crimes against humanity. I support a one-state solution." He goes on to call for a secular government, elected by proportional representation, for the territory that includes Israel and Palestine. He answered nearly every other question on the same form.

His campaign platform, published in May 2026, says the same in its own words: "Israel has committed genocide against Gaza. I support war crimes tribunals, reparations to the people of Gaza, and nonviolent conflict resolution. I support a one-state solution to end Israeli-Palestinian apartheid." It also says, without naming any country, "Eliminate foreign military aid." His Ballotpedia answers, submitted in May 2026, and his campaign site's home page repeat the Gaza passage and add "End all foreign military aid" and "Fund humanitarian foreign aid." He supports humanitarian aid in general and reparations to the people of Gaza, but does not say who would pay them or name a U.S. aid program for Palestinians.

All of this sits inside a wider platform: cut the military budget by 90 percent, close every foreign military base, and restrict the U.S. military to non-offensive defense of U.S. territory. An August 2025 comment he posted on a Tucson blog, and a 2016 questionnaire from his Senate run, point the same way and are on his research page.

In their words

I support international war crimes tribunals to try political and military leaders of both Israel and Hamas for crimes against humanity. I support a one-state solution.”

The notes behind this card: what we looked at, what we found, and where each item came from.

Every page named below was opened and read on 2026-10-06 unless the entry says otherwise. His campaign site was read in full: its home page, its blog page and the three posts the blog lists, and its one other page. Bands: Position (2024-01-26 onward), Reaction window (2023-10-07 to 2024-01-25), Earlier record (before 2023-10-07), Undated. Undated pages are recorded on the date we read them. Swing has never held office, so none of the congressional votes this site tracks is his, and no funding from the committees this site tracks is recorded on this record. Nothing located on this subject falls in the reaction window.

U.S. military aid and weapons to the government of Israel

  • [Position, read 2026-10-06] His iVoterGuide profile for the November 3, 2026 general election, answering "Is the United States' relationship with Israel important, and if so why?": "The United States government has been the primary sponsor of Israeli apartheid and genocide. US aid to Israel should be eliminated. I support international war crimes tribunals to try political and military leaders of both Israel and Hamas for crimes against humanity. I support a one-state solution. A secular government for the territory that includes both present-day Israel and Palestine should be elected by proportional representation, with constitutional protection of civil liberties." The page gives no submission date. He answered all but three of the form's questions, and those three he marked "Choose not to answer".
  • [Position, 2026-05-05] His campaign platform post, "Gary Swing for Progress Platform", published May 5, 2026 and updated May 6: "Human rights first. Uphold the Kellogg-Briand Pact, which outlaws war as a tool of foreign policy. End US foreign military interventions and restrict the US armed forces to non-offensive defense of US territory. Close all foreign military bases. Reduce the military budget by 90%." and "Abolish nuclear weapons. Eliminate foreign military aid. Create a nonviolent, humanitarian foreign policy."
  • [Position, 2026-05-04] His Ballotpedia Candidate Connection answers for 2026, whose submission Ballotpedia dates May 4, 2026, first key message: "Human rights first. Uphold the Kellogg-Briand Pact outlawing war. Abolish nuclear weapons. Reduce the military budget by 90%. Close all foreign military bases. Restrict the military to non-offensive defense of US territory. The US has no legal or moral authority for foreign military intervention. End all foreign military aid. Abolish the Selective Service System. Fund humanitarian foreign aid. Make ending world hunger a top priority." His campaign site's home page carries the same passage with small differences in wording.
  • [Position, read 2026-10-06] The League of Women Voters' Vote411 guide, his answer on congressional oversight: "I would work to end the imperial presidency, slash wasteful spending, and root out corruption. Cut the military budget, close foreign bases, end all foreign military aid, and redirect funds to human needs while abolishing ICE." On the debt he would "cut the military budget by 90%".
  • [Position, 2025-06-05] Ballotpedia reproduces his answers in a June 5, 2025 interview with 13 News Tucson during his run in the Arizona 7th District special election: "I oppose all foreign military aid and foreign military intervention."
  • [Position, 2025-08-25] A comment posted under the name Gary Swing (Substack handle garyswing2) on the Three Sonorans blog's post about Adelita Grijalva, dated August 25, 2025: "There needs be a big political shift in the United States on Israel and Palestine. That shift is taking place, but support for military aid to Israel is deeply entrenched in Congress." and "Political posturing won't end the genocide. The United States must stop providing weapons to Gaza and stop obstructing efforts by the United Nations to end the genocide." The comment is a reply inside a reader thread, not a statement he published himself; it is recorded here and used nowhere else. The account name, a handle resembling his X account name, @SwingGary2,, the Tucson blog and his 2025 run against Grijalva all point to him.
  • [Earlier record, 2016] His iVoterGuide profile for the 2016 Arizona U.S. Senate race records "Strongly Disagree" with the statement "The United States should help defend Israel from attack by its enemies."

U.S. aid to Palestinians

  • [Position, 2026-05-05] His platform supports "reparations to the people of Gaza" and a "humanitarian foreign policy"; his Ballotpedia answers say "Fund humanitarian foreign aid." His iVoterGuide answer on foreign policy: "I support humanitarian foreign aid including international efforts to end world hunger." None says who would pay reparations or names UNRWA or any U.S. aid program for Palestinians.

Characterization of the conflict

  • [Position, 2026-05-05] His platform: "Israel has committed genocide against Gaza. I support war crimes tribunals, reparations to the people of Gaza, and nonviolent conflict resolution. I support a one-state solution to end Israeli-Palestinian apartheid. I support a secular government for Palestine (including what is now Israel) elected by proportional representation, with constitutional protection of civil liberties, and empathy training in schools."
  • [Position, 2026-05-04] His Ballotpedia answers, second key message: "Israel has committed genocide against Gaza. I support war crimes tribunals, reparations to the people of Gaza, and nonviolent conflict resolution." The Arizona Mirror's voter guide republishes it under "Human rights". Among people he looks up to he names "Palestinian nonviolent activist Mubarak Awad".
  • [Position, read 2026-10-06] His iVoterGuide answer, above: "the primary sponsor of Israeli apartheid and genocide". On the same form he marks "Strongly Disagree" with "Islamic terrorism is a threat to the United States' national security."
  • [Position, 2025-08-25] The blog comment above: "The United States’ government is the primary military and political supporter of Israeli genocide against the people of Gaza - and the biggest obstacle to peace and justice."

Israel-related rhetoric and lobbying

  • Nothing located, at any date, about the American Israel Public Affairs Committee or any other organization on this subject.
  • [Earlier record, 2022-04-06] His campaign blog carries a post, "Supporting My Candidacy", dated April 6, 2022 by the blog's own listing: "I am not spending money for my campaign, and I am not accepting campaign contributions." It names no organization.

Safety and antisemitism

  • Nothing located, at any date.

The race

  • [Read 2026-10-06] Ballotpedia: "Gary Swing advanced from the Green primary for U.S. House Arizona District 6 on July 21, 2026", as a write-in; it lists him on the November ballot with Ciscomani, Mendoza, Peters and Michael Dorland, an independent write-in. In 2025 "Eduardo Quintana defeated Gary Swing in the special Green primary for U.S. House Arizona District 7 on July 15, 2025." His survey says he was on the ballot seven times as a Green between 1996 and 2018 and three times for the Unity Party of Colorado between 2020 and 2024.
  • [2026-09-10] Fox 10's report on the district's debate, to which only Ciscomani and Mendoza were invited, gives his age as 58 and his residence as Tucson from his nomination paper, and quotes his Secretary of State statement: "abolish nuclear weapons," "reduce US military budget [by] 90%," and "Impeach and convict Trump and his entire cabinet."

  • The 2016 iVoterGuide answer: earlier record; the 2026 answers carry the same direction in his own words.
  • The 2022 no-contributions post: about campaign money, naming no organization.
  • His wider platform on the Senate, the presidency, immigration, energy and population: out of scope.
