But What Can You Do? tracks where 2026 candidates stand on U.S. weapons and funding for the government of Israel. How we check

Clifton Brown

How this mark works

We track key votes on sending U.S. weapons and money to the government of Israel. A check means every tracked vote they cast came down against sending more, on the side of peace and de-escalation. A question mark means a mixed record: they sided with sending up to half of the time. An X means they voted to send more weapons and money in over half of their tracked votes, even as the way those weapons and dollars were being used became more and more obvious. At exactly half, money this election cycle from a lobbying group we track, or an endorsement from a group that backs sending weapons, makes it an X. Only votes actually cast are counted. Where a candidate has no recorded votes on these bills, the mark comes instead from a reviewed reading of their public record (money from the lobbying groups we track, endorsements, and their own words since January 26, 2024). There an X also covers fully backing the conduct of the war by the government of Israel without significant reservations, and a question mark also covers speaking about Israel without saying clearly where they stand on U.S. weapons and funding. A dash means No Position Found: we found nothing in their own words about Israel, Gaza or the war.

See a dash? Ask the candidate where they stand, then send us their answer and we'll review it and update the mark. Or volunteer to help review candidates.

Two reviewers, reading the public record as a whole, agree: His platform pledges to stop funding Israel and end US arms sales, he says Israel should not get one cent of American support, and he calls Gaza a genocide. Reviewed by hand on 2026-10-01. This candidate has no recorded tracked floor votes.

Brown's campaign platform pledges to “stop funding the Zionist regime in Israel and end the sale of US arms worldwide” and says “The US backed attack on Gaza is genocide”. In a 2026 voter guide he wrote: “Isreal shouldn't get one cent of American support.”

Deep Dive

Clifton Brown is running for Congress in Colorado's 3rd District as an unaffiliated candidate. He is a carpenter who moved to Denver in 1971 and has spent his career framing custom houses. He reached the ballot by petition. He faces three opponents on November 3: Representative Jeff Hurd, the Republican, Dwayne Romero, the Democrat, and Cory Robertson, the Libertarian. He has never held federal office, so there are no congressional votes on this record.

His campaign platform lists an "Anti-War Policy": "HEROs Will Be Anti-war. Cut military spending, End all foreign wars, Close all foreign military bases." HEROs is the name his campaign gives the political movement it hopes to start. The platform's anti-war section, last updated in June 2026, says: “HEROs will stop funding the Zionist regime in Israel and end the sale of US arms worldwide.” It says the movement "will vote no on any spending bill that does not cut military spending drastically and balance the budget". On the war in Gaza it says: “If you expect the second coming of Christ to protect the USA and Israel you have lost your mind and your soul. No two countries have committed more atrocities since WWII. The US backed attack on Gaza is genocide and the destruction there is an embarrassment to humanity.”

Asked by iVoterGuide whether the United States' relationship with Israel is important, he answered: “Isreal shouldn't get one cent of American support. No country including the United States should be exempt from any international law or treaty signed by the legislative branch. President Trump, Secretary Hegseth, President Putin and Prime Minister Netanyahu should all be arrested and held accountable for violating international laws. No government has the right to violate anyone's human rights. Gaza is the worst case of genocide since America wiped out the Native Americans. Embarrassing!” He answered the guide's other questions at length too.

Nothing located has him speaking to U.S. aid to Palestinians. His Ballotpedia questionnaire, answered in July 2026, pledges to take no money from any corporation or political action committee and does not mention Israel. Other passages on his platform about the government of Israel and the region are on his research page.

Research log

The notes behind this card: what we looked at, what we found, and where each item came from.

Our research for this card began with a search run on 2026-09-28, and every page below was opened and read on 2026-10-01 unless the entry says otherwise. His campaign site was read in full: its home, Issues, About Me and Get Involved pages. The Issues page runs to about 17,000 words; its own record of changes dates it to April 22, 2026, last modified June 8, 2026, and it is dated here by that last-modified date. Brown has never held federal office, so none of the congressional votes this site tracks is his, and no funding from the committees this site tracks is recorded on this record. Bands: Position (2024-01-26 onward), Reaction window (2023-10-07 to 2024-01-25), Earlier record (before 2023-10-07), Undated. Nothing located falls in the reaction window or earlier.

U.S. military aid and weapons to the government of Israel

  • [Position, 2026-06-08] His platform's Issues page, in the section headed "HEROs ARE ANTI-WAR": "HEROs will stop funding the Zionist regime in Israel and end the sale of US arms worldwide." The same section: "HEROs will be obstructionists to any and all military expansion. HEROs will vote no on any spending bill that does not cut military spending drastically and balance the budget." HEROs is the name his campaign gives the movement it hopes to start.
  • [Read 2026-10-01] His campaign site's home page, under Key Campaign Issues: "HEROs Will Be Anti-war. Cut military spending, End all foreign wars, Close all foreign military bases."
  • [Position; read 2026-10-01] His iVoterGuide questionnaire for this race. Asked "Is the United States' relationship with Israel important, and if so why?", he answered: "Isreal shouldn't get one cent of American support. Embarrassing!" The page carries no date for the answers; it is dated here by the day it was read. He answered the questionnaire's other questions at length, and in the same section chose "C" on foreign policy, that the United States "has become too involved in others' policies".

U.S. aid to Palestinians

  • Nothing located, at any date.

Characterization of the conflict

  • [Position, 2026-06-08] His platform's Issues page, same section: "If you expect the second coming of Christ to protect the USA and Israel you have lost your mind and your soul. No two countries have committed more atrocities since WWII. The US backed attack on Gaza is genocide and the destruction there is an embarrassment to humanity."
  • [Position; read 2026-10-01] His iVoterGuide answer, quoted in full above: "Gaza is the worst case of genocide since America wiped out the Native Americans."
  • [Position; read 2026-10-01] The same questionnaire, beside "Islamic terrorism is a threat to the United States' national security.", he marked "Strongly Disagree" and wrote: "Islamic terrorism is a reaction to the violation of human rights by Isreal and the United States. Again, I will state the obvious, every action has an equal and opposite reaction. Imagine if any country did to America what we have done to Iran. The best way to fight terrorism is justice, and the prosecution of American and Israeli leaders who continuously violate international law."
  • [Position, 2026-06-08] His platform's Issues page, same section: "The reason middle eastern countries are mad is because the USA and Israel have been attacking arab countries and stealing their land and oil since WWII ended. Ironically Jews ended up in Israel because Jews were banned from immigrating to America and most of Europe after WWII."

Israel-related rhetoric and lobbying

  • Nothing located that names the American Israel Public Affairs Committee or any other organization on this subject. His Ballotpedia answers, submitted on July 25, 2026, say: "My pledge to America is that I won't take one dime from any corporation or PAC and I will not make one penny above my government salary."

Safety and antisemitism (context, not an answer to what America sends)

  • [Position, 2026-06-08; read 2026-10-01] His platform page also says: “The Rothschilds could have stopped WWII before it ever started. Without the funding from Jews, Hitler would have gone broke before the war even started. That’s not antisemitism, just observation.”

What the campaign site and own pages say

  • [Read 2026-10-01] About Me: born in Salt Lake City in 1958, he grew up in Southern California, moved with his family to Denver in 1971, and after graduating in 1976 worked as a carpenter framing custom houses. It says he "detests republicans and democrats equally" and calls himself a compassionate conservative. His campaign site lists eight key issues: human rights, anti-corruption laws, an anti-war policy, election reform, cost of living, a balanced budget, universal health care and rural communities.
  • [Position, 2026-07-25] His Ballotpedia page carries his Candidate Connection answers, submitted on July 25, 2026. They concern the two-party system, gerrymandering, citizen-only land ownership and campaign donations, and the environment. None mentions Israel, Gaza or foreign aid. Ballotpedia records his profession as carpenter and his high school as Cherry Creek High School.
  • [Position, 2026-09-25] Colorado Public Radio's guide to the district's third-party candidates describes him as a retired carpenter who calls himself a "compassionate conservative", with plans including ending all foreign wars, a 32-hour workweek and universal health care. It says nothing about the government of Israel.

The race

  • [Read 2026-10-01] His Ballotpedia page: "Incumbent Jeff Hurd (R), Dwayne Romero (D), Cory Robertson (L), and Clifton Brown (Unaffiliated) are running in the general election for U.S. House Colorado District 3 on November 3, 2026." iVoterGuide's race page lists the same field.

Places that could not be read, so nothing is claimed from them

  • None. No social media account of his was found; his campaign site lists an email address and telephone number only.

Not on the card, and why

  • The passage on the Rothschilds and Hitler: context, not an answer to what America sends. It is quoted above, on the research page only.
  • His iVoterGuide answer on terrorism, his platform passage on the region since the Second World War, and the call to arrest world leaders including Prime Minister Netanyahu: recorded above; the front carries his funding pledge, his genocide characterization and his one-sentence answer on support.
  • His positions on corruption, elections, housing, health care, immigration and the environment: out of scope.
  • Jeff Hurd's, Dwayne Romero's and Cory Robertson's records belong on their own cards.
