But What Can You Do? tracks where 2026 candidates stand on U.S. weapons and funding for the government of Israel. How we check

Douglas Mangeris

Libertarian · U.S. House, Colorado District 4
–
How this mark works

We track key votes on sending U.S. weapons and money to the government of Israel. A check means every tracked vote they cast came down against sending more, on the side of peace and de-escalation. A question mark means a mixed record: they sided with sending up to half of the time. An X means they voted to send more weapons and money in over half of their tracked votes, even as the way those weapons and dollars were being used became more and more obvious. At exactly half, money this election cycle from a lobbying group we track, or an endorsement from a group that backs sending weapons, makes it an X. Only votes actually cast are counted. Where a candidate has no recorded votes on these bills, the mark comes instead from a reviewed reading of their public record (money from the lobbying groups we track, endorsements, and their own words since January 26, 2024). There an X also covers fully backing the conduct of the war by the government of Israel without significant reservations, and a question mark also covers speaking about Israel without saying clearly where they stand on U.S. weapons and funding. A dash means No Position Found: we found nothing in their own words about Israel, Gaza or the war.

See a dash? Ask the candidate where they stand, then send us their answer and we'll review it and update the mark. Or volunteer to help review candidates.

No recorded votes on the bills we track. We have not finished reviewing this candidate's public record yet.

Mangeris told the Fort Collins Coloradoan in October 2026 that "no foreign aid goes out while American taxpayers are still carrying a national debt". His campaign site says the same. He names no country, and nothing located has him addressing the government of Israel, Gaza or aid to Palestinians.

Deep Dive

Douglas Mangeris, a commercial construction superintendent from Loveland and a federal firearms licensee, is the Libertarian nominee in Colorado's 4th District. He faces Representative Lauren Boebert, the Republican, and Eileen Laubacher, the Democrat, on November 3, with Republican Luis Galvan running as a write-in. He ran for the seat as a Libertarian in 2024 and withdrew before the general election. He has never held office, so there are no votes on this record.

His only word on foreign aid is a general one. In the Coloradoan's October 2026 candidate questionnaire he listed fiscal accountability among his priorities: "Every federal dollar should be tracked and justified, and no foreign aid goes out while American taxpayers are still carrying a national debt." His campaign site puts it more bluntly: "NO foreign aid will be sent to ANYONE until the USA has a $0 National Debt. Not one dollar." By its terms that covers aid to every country. Neither page names one, the words Israel, Gaza and Palestinian appear on neither, and this card does not name a country for him.

His campaign is built around an app he founded, CheckYourRepresentative. He told the Coloradoan that through it "verified District 4 constituents get every House and Senate bill on their phone, vote yes or no, and I vote accordingly." He has not answered Ballotpedia's 2026 candidate survey, and his iVoterGuide profile reads "Did not answer" for all 32 of its questions. A December 2025 podcast interview listed on that profile, and his campaign's X account, are on his research page for anyone who can open them.

You are better placed to change this than we are. Ask Mangeris directly, or at a candidate forum, and send us the reply: it goes on this page in his own words, which is worth more than anything we could write about him.

In their words

Research log

The notes behind this card: what we looked at, what we found, and where each item came from.

Every page named below was opened and read on 2026-10-08 unless the entry says otherwise. His campaign site was read in full: its single home page, with sections headed About, Priorities and Get Involved, and its volunteer page. Bands: Position (2024-01-26 onward), Reaction window (2023-10-07 to 2024-01-25), Earlier record (before 2023-10-07), Undated. Undated pages are recorded on the date we read them. Mangeris has never held office, so none of the congressional votes this site tracks is his, and no funding from the committees this site tracks is recorded on this record. Nothing located on this subject falls in the reaction window.

U.S. military aid and weapons to the government of Israel

  • Nothing located that names the government of Israel, at any date.
  • [Position, 2026-10-01] The Fort Collins Coloradoan's candidate questionnaire, by Rebecca Powell, asked his top priorities. Among them: "Fiscal accountability. No more generational debt. Every federal dollar should be tracked and justified, and no foreign aid goes out while American taxpayers are still carrying a national debt." The paper says it sent identical questionnaires to the candidates whose names will be printed on the ballot and that answers were "reviewed and, in some cases, lightly edited". No question in it asks about foreign policy, and none of his other answers mentions it.
  • [Position, read 2026-10-08] His campaign site, under the priority headed Fiscal Accountability: "NO foreign aid will be sent to ANYONE until the USA has a $0 National Debt. Not one dollar. American taxpayers come first". The words Israel, Gaza, Palestinian, Middle East, military, defense and weapon appear nowhere on the site. The page carries no date.

U.S. aid to Palestinians

  • Nothing located that names Palestinians, Gaza or any aid program for them, at any date. The general foreign-aid pledge above names no recipient.

Characterization of the conflict

  • Nothing located, at any date.
  • [Undated, read 2026-10-08] His iVoterGuide profile lists "Is the United States' relationship with Israel important, and if so why?" with "Did not answer". All 32 of its questions read "Did not answer", so the blank is a fact about the guide's coverage of him, not a choice about this question.

Israel-related rhetoric and lobbying

  • Nothing located that names any organization on this subject, at any date.
  • [Position, read 2026-10-08] His campaign site says "No dynasty. No lobbyist money." and he told the Coloradoan "I take no lobbyist money and owe nothing to either party." Neither names an organization; both are about how he funds his campaign.

Safety and antisemitism

  • Nothing located, at any date.

What his platform says

  • [Position, read 2026-10-08] His campaign site describes him as "a construction superintendent from Loveland, a Federal Firearms Licensee, and a proud father" and lists six priorities: term limits, fiscal accountability, election integrity, the CheckYourRepresentative app, bills capped at 50 pages, and constitutional values. It says that through the app constituents would vote on every House and Senate bill and he would vote as they direct.
  • [Position, 2026-10-01] The Coloradoan questionnaire adds water for rural Weld County and the district's farm communities to that list, and gives his work history: commercial construction superintendent at Hausmann Construction, a licensed general building contractor, vice president of the board of Habitat for Humanity of Loveland, and founder of CheckYourRepresentative.com. On his priorities: "Vote the way my district tells me to. Through the free CheckYourRepresentative app, verified District 4 constituents get every House and Senate bill on their phone, vote yes or no, and I vote accordingly."

The race

  • [Read 2026-10-08] Ballotpedia: "Incumbent Lauren Boebert (R), Eileen Laubacher (D), Douglas Mangeris (L), and Luis Galvan (R) are running in the general election for U.S. House Colorado District 4 on November 3, 2026." Galvan is a write-in candidate. "Douglas Mangeris has not yet completed Ballotpedia's 2026 Candidate Connection survey." It also records that he did not complete the 2024 survey, that he withdrew from the 2024 general election for the same seat, and $0 in contributions in both cycles. It also says he "also ran for election to the Colorado House of Representatives to represent District 4" and will not appear on that ballot; nothing else read here mentions a state-house run.
  • [2026-04-23] The Colorado Times Recorder lists him as the Libertarian Party of Colorado's nominee for the 4th District and calls him a "former Republican" entering the race as a Libertarian.
  • [2026-04-26] The Libertarian Party of Colorado's convention report names him its District 4 nominee and describes him as an affordable housing contractor and vice president of the board of the Loveland Habitat for Humanity. The party's candidate list links his campaign site.

Places that could not be read, so nothing is claimed from them

  • An 18-minute interview on the Long Live Alternate Parties podcast, dated December 4, 2025 and listed on his iVoterGuide profile: https://open.spotify.com/episode/3eypH8e9MDuQot4sQAJfz7 (audio; the page returns only a player shell).
  • His campaign's X account, @MericanDreamz, "Douglas Mangeris for Congress": https://x.com/MericanDreamz . Its profile and a handful of its most recent posts are readable without signing in, and none of those reaches this subject; its 651 posts are not searchable without signing in.
  • His personal LinkedIn page, as listed by Ballotpedia: https://www.linkedin.com/in/douglas-mangeris-693740179/

Not on the card, and why

  • The blank iVoterGuide entry on the relationship with Israel: guide coverage, not a position.
  • The pledges to take no lobbyist money: about his campaign's money, naming no organization.
  • The Colorado Times Recorder's "former Republican" and the party's description of him: third parties speaking about him.
  • His positions on term limits, the debt, election integrity, bill length, water and the Constitution: out of scope.
