Deep Dive

Laurel Lee has represented Florida's 15th District, in the Tampa area, since January 3, 2023. She was Florida's Secretary of State from 2019 to 2022 and a circuit judge in Hillsborough County before that, and she sits on the Energy and Commerce, Judiciary and House Administration Committees. Florida enacted a new congressional map in May 2026, so the district on this year's ballot is not the one she has served. She is running for re-election on November 3, 2026 against Robert People, the Democratic nominee, and Angie Boone, a write-in candidate with no party affiliation.

Two bills she has put her name to speak to what the United States sends. In June 2023 she cosponsored the U.S.-Israel Partnership and Abraham Accords Enhancement Act of 2023, which extends the Defense Department's authorization to transfer certain defense items to the government of Israel and extends cooperation on water, energy and agriculture. In April 2025 she cosponsored the United States-Israel Defense Partnership Act of 2025, whose seventh section moves the expiry of the war reserves stockpile authority from January 1, 2027 to January 1, 2029. That stockpile is a store of American defense articles kept in Israel that the government of Israel may draw on with United States consent. The same bill sets up joint work on countering drones, extends anti-tunnel cooperation, and opens a Defense Innovation Unit office in Israel. Her recorded votes are shown on this card. She has published nothing about any of them: nothing in her 157 press releases, her columns or her campaign site names any of those bills.

Her own statements are about the relationship rather than about a dollar figure or a weapons system. On October 2, 2024, after Iran fired missiles at Israel, she said that the United States must show unwavering support for Israel as they fight for their right to exist. In her constituent newsletter of June 24, 2024, after meeting Israel's Consul General in Miami, she wrote that it is imperative that the United States demonstrates steadfast solidarity with our great ally, Israel, in an issue reprinted by the Polk County Republican Party and readable now only as an archived copy. Her campaign site sets out the border, the economy, crime and veterans, and says nothing about Israel, Gaza or foreign aid at all.

Most of what she has published on this subject is about American campuses and about Jewish Americans. On May 1, 2024, on Fox Business, she said of the demonstrations at Columbia University that "They are not protesters; they are criminals." and that Congress should investigate them. Her newsletter that week said that House Republicans passed the Antisemitism Awareness Act to demonstrate our unwavering support for Israel and Jewish Americans; Ballotpedia records her Yea vote on that bill on May 1, 2024. Separately, she wrote and led the Holocaust Expropriated Art Recovery Act of 2025, which helps Holocaust survivors and their families reclaim art stolen by the Nazi regime and which President Trump signed into law on April 13, 2026.

What she said and what she cosponsored in the weeks after October 7, 2023 is on her research page with the dates, along with the reports about her that could not be opened.

How this mark works

We track key votes on sending U.S. weapons and money to the government of Israel. A check means every tracked vote they cast came down against sending more, on the side of peace and de-escalation. A question mark means a mixed record: they sided with sending up to half of the time. An X means they voted to send more weapons and money in over half of their tracked votes, even as the way those weapons and dollars were being used became more and more obvious. At exactly half, money this election cycle from a lobbying group we track, or an endorsement from a group that backs sending weapons, makes it an X. Only votes actually cast are counted. Where a candidate has no recorded votes on these bills, the mark comes instead from a reviewed reading of their public record (money from the lobbying groups we track, endorsements, and their own words since January 26, 2024). There an X also covers fully backing the conduct of the war by the government of Israel without significant reservations, and a question mark also covers speaking about Israel without saying clearly where they stand on U.S. weapons and funding. A dash means No Position Found: we found nothing in their own words about Israel, Gaza or the war.

See a dash? Ask the candidate where they stand, then send us their answer and we'll review it and update the mark. Or volunteer to help review candidates.

Voted to send weapons or funding in more than half of their recorded tracked votes. (Supported sending weapons or funding in 6 of 6 tracked votes.)

Research log

The notes behind this card: what we looked at, what we found, and where each item came from.

Every page named below was opened and read on 2026-09-08 unless the entry says otherwise. Her congressional newsroom was read to the start of the archive: all 157 press releases from January 3, 2023 to September 3, 2026, the three columns she has published, and the single In The News item her office lists. Her campaign site and her six issue pages were read in full. She publishes no newsletter archive of her own; fifteen issues of her constituent newsletter from May to November 2024 survive as reprints on the Polk County Republican Party site, whose own addresses no longer open, and all fifteen were read as archived copies. Bands: Position (2024-01-26 onward), Reaction window (2023-10-07 to 2024-01-25), Earlier record (before 2023-10-07), Undated. Her recorded House votes and the tracked funding totals are shown as badges on this card and are not restated here.

U.S. military aid and weapons to the government of Israel

  • [Position, 2025-04-07] She cosponsored H.R. 1229, the United States-Israel Defense Partnership Act of 2025, introduced by Rep. Joe Wilson of South Carolina on February 12, 2025. GovTrack's cosponsor list records her as "Lee, Laurel [R-FL15, 2023-2026]" and gives 181 cosponsors in all. The bill as introduced states at section 7, headed "EXTENSION OF WAR RESERVES STOCKPILE AUTHORITY", that section 12001(d) of the Department of Defense Appropriations Act, 2005 "is amended by striking ``after January 1, 2027'' and inserting ``after January 1 2029''." Its other sections establish a joint programme on countering unmanned systems, extend anti-tunnel and counter-drone cooperation, authorise joint research on emerging technologies, open a Defense Innovation Unit office in Israel, and seek Israel's entry into the national technology and industrial base.
  • [Position, 2024-06-14] Her statement on House passage of the fiscal 2025 National Defense Authorization Act: "The most fundamental responsibility of the federal government is to keep our nation safe, and this bipartisan FY 25 NDAA is a critical bill to fund our military, protect our national security against adversaries, and support our servicemen and women here in Florida and around the world," and "I am proud to support this legislation to ensure military readiness, improve critical defense infrastructure, and support our military families." The release then lists what the bill will do. One of the seven bullets reads: "Expand U.S.-Israel military exercises and fully fund cooperative missile defense program." That is the only mention of Israel anywhere in her 157 press releases apart from the October 2023 and October 2024 items below.
  • [Earlier record, 2023-06-07] She cosponsored H.R. 3792, the U.S.-Israel Partnership and Abraham Accords Enhancement Act of 2023, also introduced by Rep. Joe Wilson, six days after its introduction. GovTrack's cosponsor list records her among 163 cosponsors. The Congressional Research Service summary of the bill says it "extends the authorization for the Department of Defense (DOD) to transfer certain defense items to Israel", extends authority to finance cooperative water, agriculture and energy-storage projects, extends energy cooperation, and directs the U.S. Agency for International Development to include certain applicants in its work.
  • Nothing else located. No statement by her about arms transfers, weapons shipments, Foreign Military Financing, security assistance, supplemental appropriations for the government of Israel, or any of the bills on which her votes are recorded, appears in her newsroom, in her columns, on her campaign site, in the fifteen surviving newsletters, or in any news report read for this card. The Foundation for Middle East Peace's record of what members said about the July 15, 2026 vote on the Massie amendment does not name her, and names no member from Florida.

U.S. aid to Palestinians

  • Nothing located, at any date. Neither UNRWA, nor Gaza humanitarian funding, nor the aid pipeline is mentioned anywhere in her published material. A search of her cosponsorships returns no bill on any of those subjects.

Characterization of the conflict

  • [Position, 2024-10-02] Her statement after Iran's missile attack on Israel: "I am praying for the people of Israel as they defend themselves against these attacks from the Iranian terror regime. Now more than ever, the United States must show our unwavering support for Israel as they fight for their right to exist and for the safety and security of their people."
  • [Position, 2024-06-24] Her constituent newsletter of that date, reprinted by the Polk County Republican Party and read as an archived copy: "Last week, I had the pleasure of meeting with the Consul General for Israel, Mr. Elbaz-Starinsky. I am proud to represent the strong Jewish community we have here in Florida’s 15th District. Amidst mounting aggression, it is imperative that the United States demonstrates steadfast solidarity with our great ally, Israel. My support for my Jewish friends and neighbors, as well as for our strongest ally in the Middle East, remains unwavering."
  • [Position, 2024-10-07] Our research reports that in a Florida Politics round-up marking the first anniversary of the October 7 attacks she called the event a "terrorist attack orchestrated by Hamas", called for the safe return of the hostages, and described Israel as "our greatest ally in the Middle East, as they defend their existence". The page at https://floridapolitics.com/archives/699802-florida-political-leaders-reflect-on-one-year-since-oct-7-attack-on-israel/ did not open on 2026-09-08 and the words could not be checked, so they are quoted nowhere on this card. The address is printed rather than linked because it does not open here. Her own newsroom carries nothing dated October 7, 2024.
  • [Reaction window, 2023-10-25] Her release on the Homeland Security Committee hearing "An Examination of the Iranian Regime’s Threats to Homeland Security", and her remarks in it, which are printed in full in the committee transcript published by the Government Publishing Office. Her opening words there are: "The horrific atrocities happening right now in Israel by Iran-backed Hamas terrorists are heartbreaking. Israel should know that Congress remains steadfast in our support and our commitment to provide them with the tools necessary to defend themselves and the resources to eradicate the perpetrators of these heinous acts." Not on the card summary; recorded here with its date. Our research rendered the same sentence as "provide [Israel] with the tools necessary"; the transcript reads "provide them".
  • [Reaction window, 2023-10-10 and 2023-10-11] She cosponsored H.Res. 768 on the day it was introduced and H.Res. 771 on the day it was introduced, both by Rep. Michael McCaul of Texas and both titled "Standing with Israel as it defends itself against the barbaric war launched by Hamas and other terrorists". The Congressional Research Service summary says each resolution "reaffirms the United States' commitment to Israel's security, supports emergency resupply and certain other types of assistance to Israel, and urges full enforcement of sanctions against Iran". Not on the card summary; recorded here with their dates. Cosponsor lists: H.Res. 768 and H.Res. 771.

Israel-related rhetoric and lobbying

  • [Position, 2024-06-17] Agudath Israel of America's account of a delegation its Florida office led to Washington, published on that date and describing a one-day mission held days after the Memorial Day recess. Agudath Israel of America is an Orthodox Jewish communal organization that lobbies on behalf of Orthodox communities. The delegation "met with Senator Rick Scott (R-FL), Congressman Jared Moskowitz (D-FL-23), Congressman Brian Mast (R-FL-21), Congressman Byron Donalds, (R-FL-19), Congressman Maxwell Alejandro Frost (D-FL-10), Congressman John Rutherford (R-FL-5), as well as senior staffers from the offices of Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL), Congresswoman Kat Cammack (R-FL-3), Congresswoman Laurel Lee (R-FL-15)" and others. The article says the meetings covered "support for Israel in its war against Hamas, the return of the hostages, the alarming rise of antisemitism, and the need for increasing the federal nonprofit security grant program to at least $400 million". Lee is not quoted, and the account describes a meeting with her staff rather than with her.
  • [Position, 2025-06-27 to 2026-04-13] The Holocaust Expropriated Art Recovery Act of 2025, which she wrote and led. Her introduction release lists supporting organizations including Agudath Israel of America, the American Jewish Committee, the Anti-Defamation League and the Christians United for Israel Action Fund. The release on House passage quotes Matt Brooks, chief executive of the Republican Jewish Coalition, a Republican organization that advocates for Jewish Republicans and for close United States and Israel ties, thanking her for leading the bill. The bill was signed into law on April 13, 2026. The subject is art stolen by the Nazi regime, not what the United States sends the government of Israel.
  • [Earlier record, 2023-10-06] She cosponsored H.R. 4564, the Countering Hate Against Israel by Federal Contractors Act, introduced by Rep. Claudia Tenney of New York, one day before the October 7 attacks; the cosponsor list records 23 cosponsors in all. The bill concerns federal contracting and boycotts, not what the United States sends.
  • [Earlier record, 2023-04-25] She cosponsored H.R. 987, the Prime Minister Golda Meir Commemorative Coin Act.
  • The tracked funding totals on this record are shown as badges and are not restated here. No statement by her about donations from any organization on this subject was found, and no pledge about them was found under her name.

Safety and antisemitism (context, not an answer to what America sends)

  • [Position, 2024-05-01] The Floridian's report of her appearance on Fox Business's "Mornings with Maria", published that day: she is quoted saying of the demonstrations at Columbia University and elsewhere, "They are not protesters; they are criminals." The report also quotes her saying university presidents "have an obligation to keep their campuses safe"; that President Biden "should be speaking out about this. He should be condemning antisemitism anywhere that it occurs in America, and certainly on these college campuses. And he has not even begun to do enough; he has been silent."; that "those types of questions are exactly why Speaker [Mike] Johnson (R-LA) and House Republicans want to initiate investigations, so we can ask these questions of our universities."; and "This is criminal conduct. This is not First Amendment expression. There is no right to engage in this kind of behavior, in this kind of violence and destruction on college campuses. So as Congress, we have a real opportunity to get to the bottom of who these people are, why they are here, and what their intentions are for our country." The bracketed first name in the Speaker quotation is the reporter's.
  • [Position, 2024-05-05] Her constituent newsletter of that date, read as an archived copy, under the heading "House Republicans Stand with Israel": "Lately, antisemitism has erupted on college campuses throughout the United States, and many universities are refusing to take accountability. To demonstrate our unwavering support for Israel and Jewish Americans, my House Republican colleagues and I passed the Antisemitism Awareness Act this week. This bill takes important steps towards cracking down on antisemitism throughout campuses in the U.S. Universities should be able to safeguard free speech while simultaneously protecting their Jewish students. I will continue to reaffirm my support for our ally, Israel, and all Jewish students throughout the nation."
  • [Position, 2024-05-01] Ballotpedia's record of her votes gives her a Yea on the Antisemitism Awareness Act of 2023, H.R. 6090, which the House passed on May 1, 2024, and describes the bill as making it "so the Department of Education's Office of Civil Rights could have the authority to use the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance's definition of antisemitism when investigating cases of discrimination".
  • [Reaction window, 2023-11-06] She cosponsored H.R. 6090, the Antisemitism Awareness Act of 2023, introduced by Rep. Michael Lawler of New York on October 26, 2023; the cosponsor list records her sponsorship date. Not on the card summary; recorded here with its date. Her vote on the bill, five months later, is above.

Correction: a quotation that is not hers

  • Our research reported that in a statement published by The Ripon Forum on June 13, 2024, Lee said that Congress cannot "sit idly by as campus protesters intimidate and harass their Jewish classmates". The Ripon Profile of Laurel Lee published that day is a questionnaire about her parents, her accomplishments in office, the cost of living, the southern border and civility in politics. It does not mention Israel, Gaza, antisemitism or campuses. The sentence appears in the table of contents of the same June 2024 edition, as the pull quote for a separate article by Rep. Michael Lawler of New York, whose closing paragraph reads: "We cannot sit idly by as protesters on college campuses across the country intimidate and harass their Jewish classmates." The words are Lawler's, not Lee's, and they are quoted nowhere on this card.

What her campaign site says

  • [Undated; read 2026-09-08] votelaurel.com, read in full, including its About Laurel and Laurel's Record sections. The site sets out the southern border, the economy and innovation, crime and community safety, the military and veterans, and carries an endorsement from President Trump. The words Israel, Gaza, Palestinian, antisemitism, Jewish, foreign aid, foreign policy and Middle East appear nowhere on it.
  • [Undated; read 2026-09-08] Her six congressional issue pages, on law enforcement and community safety, the economy, education, energy, the Second Amendment and veterans, carry none of those words either.

The race

  • [Undated; read 2026-09-08] Ballotpedia: "Incumbent Laurel Lee, Robert People, and Angie Boone are running in the general election for U.S. House Florida District 15 on November 3, 2026." Boone is listed as a write-in with no party affiliation. The Republican primary was cancelled and Lee advanced from it unopposed. Robert People defeated Christopher Irizarry in the Democratic primary on August 18, 2026, by 22,149 votes to 19,135. The same page records that "The U.S. House elections in Florida will take place using a new congressional map in 2026. Governor Ron DeSantis (R) signed new district boundaries into law on May 4." Her congressional office's own description of the district has not been updated for the new map, so no county list is given on this card.

Not on the card, and why

  • Everything she said in the weeks after October 7, 2023: the October 25, 2023 hearing remarks and release, the two resolutions cosponsored on October 10 and 11, 2023, and the November 6, 2023 cosponsorship of the Antisemitism Awareness Act. All are above with their dates.
  • The Iran material in her October 2023 hearing remarks, and the parts of her October 2024 statement that are about the Iranian government: Iran is a different question from what the United States sends the government of Israel.
  • The cooperative missile defense clause in her June 2024 statement on the defense bill: defensive systems are set out on this page and in the deep dive rather than on the front of the card.
  • The Ripon Forum quotation our research supplied: it belongs to Rep. Michael Lawler of New York. The correction is above.
  • The Holocaust art restitution law she wrote is on this card as context and not as an answer to what the United States sends: its subject is property stolen by the Nazi regime. It is here because it is the largest single body of her published work touching Jewish communal organizations.
  • Robert People's positions: they belong on his own card.
