But What Can You Do? tracks where 2026 candidates stand on U.S. weapons and funding for the government of Israel. How we check

How this mark works
We track key votes on sending U.S. weapons and money to the government of Israel. A check means every tracked vote they cast came down against sending more, on the side of peace and de-escalation. A question mark means a mixed record: they sided with sending up to half of the time. An X means they voted to send more weapons and money in over half of their tracked votes, even as the way those weapons and dollars were being used became more and more obvious. At exactly half, money this election cycle from a lobbying group we track, or an endorsement from a group that backs sending weapons, makes it an X. Only votes actually cast are counted. Where a candidate has no recorded votes on these bills, the mark comes instead from a reviewed reading of their public record (money from the lobbying groups we track, endorsements, and their own words since January 26, 2024). There an X also covers fully backing the conduct of the war by the government of Israel without significant reservations, and a question mark also covers speaking about Israel without saying clearly where they stand on U.S. weapons and funding. A dash means No Position Found: we found nothing in their own words about Israel, Gaza or the war.
Two reviewers, reading the public record as a whole, agree: An August 2026 mailer from her campaign slate says the U.S. has been "paying for and indirectly involved in the wars in Ukraine, Gaza, Sudan and Yemen", without saying where she stands on U.S. weapons and funding for the government of Israel. Reviewed by hand on 2026-10-09. This candidate has no recorded tracked floor votes.
Her campaign is about work and class. In her convention statement she said the working class needs its own political organization, "more than a union", one that speaks to "jobs or rather the lack of jobs, low-wages, inflation, war." Her answers to the League of Women Voters say workers will have to organize to win higher wages and affordable health care and housing, call for a job at a living wage for everyone able to work, and oppose the actions of ICE.
On the question this site asks, what her campaign has said is about war in general. In the same convention statement she said "we have been dragged into another war in the Middle East. This is a war that only billionaires benefit from." She did not name the war. The slate's August campaign mailer, paid for by the party's Maryland slate and carrying the photographs of its four candidates, says: "The U.S. has been paying for and indirectly involved in the wars in Ukraine, Gaza, Sudan and Yemen – under both parties." It adds that "The problem is war itself". The mailer speaks for the slate as a whole. It does not name the government of Israel or say what should happen to U.S. aid, and nothing located has her speaking for herself on U.S. weapons or money for the government of Israel, or on U.S. aid to Palestinians.
She has not completed Ballotpedia's candidate survey, and iVoterGuide's profile for this race records no answer from her to any of its 34 questions, one of which asks about the relationship with Israel. An August interview on Maryland Public Television could not be reviewed here; the address is on her research page. A governor casts no federal votes on any of this.
You are better placed to settle this than we are. Ask White directly, or at a candidate forum, and send us the reply: it goes on this page in her own words.
Research log
The notes behind this card: what we looked at, what we found, and where each item came from.
Every page named below was opened and read on 2026-10-05 unless the entry says otherwise. Her campaign's site is the Working Class Party of Maryland's site, which lists her campaign as its own and which the League of Women Voters guide gives as her campaign website; it was read in full (Home, Events, Contribute, Register, Docs and Links, Videos), with the five most recent campaign documents linked from Docs and Links and the October 2023 one. Bands: Position (2024-01-26 onward), Reaction window (2023-10-07 to 2024-01-25), Earlier record (before 2023-10-07), Undated. White has never held federal office, so none of the congressional votes this site tracks is hers, and a campaign for state office is not covered by the federal funding records this site tracks.
U.S. military aid and weapons to the government of Israel
Nothing located from her, at any date.
[Position, August 2026] The party slate's August 2026 campaign flyer and mailer (file name "2026-08 WCPFlyer202608.pdf"; "Authorized by and paid for by Working Class Party Maryland Slate"), headed "Use this Election to Refuse Capitalism's Crises and Its Wars", shows the four candidates and says: "The U.S. has been paying for and indirectly involved in the wars in Ukraine, Gaza, Sudan and Yemen – under both parties. It is carrying out its own war against Iran. It has “shadow wars” going on in Venezuela, throughout the Middle East and against Mexico." It says of schools and public services, "That's where Democrats and Republicans get their money for war", and "The problem is war itself – and what it does to people all over the world." It names no recipient government for the money and proposes no change to U.S. aid. It is the slate's statement, not one signed by her.
U.S. aid to Palestinians
Nothing located, at any date.
Characterization of the conflict
Nothing located from her, at any date. The slate mailer above names Gaza among wars the U.S. has paid for; it does not characterize the war beyond that.
[Position, April 2026; posted on the campaign site, read 2026-10-05] Her statement to the party's state convention: "And we have been dragged into another war in the Middle East. This is a war that only billionaires benefit from. The defense contractors, the oil and gas companies, grow fat, while we pay through the nose for gas. Workers have no reason to support this war." It does not name the war or any country.
Israel-related rhetoric and lobbying
Nothing located, at any date.
[Read 2026-10-05] iVoterGuide's profile shows "Did not answer" against all 34 of its questions, among them "Is the United States' relationship with Israel important, and if so why?", and "Candidate did not provide" for every biography field. With no answer on any subject, this is a fact about the guide's coverage, not a position. Its rating is "Insufficient Information".
Safety and antisemitism (context, not an answer to what America sends)
Nothing located, at any date.
What the campaign site and own pages say
[Position, read 2026-10-05] The party's site says the party "won ballot status by turning in over 12,000 signatures" and is running her for governor, Cathy Permut for lieutenant governor, Alan Rebar for the state Senate and Bob White for the House of Delegates. Her convention statement, posted there, says: "For the last 40 years I have worked in a factory as a production worker." It calls for the working class to have its own political organization, "Something more than a union", that "speaks to our common problems and current concerns, like jobs or rather the lack of jobs, low-wages, inflation, war", and it rejects attacks on immigrants, black people, Hispanic people, women, protesters, veterans, and gay and transgender people.
[Position, June 2026] The party's June 2026 campaign flyer with candidates says "Both parties of the ruling class are dragging us into another world war" and "These are not our wars", naming no country.
[Position, December 2024] A December 2024 flyer on the same page is a national Working Class Party statement by a Michigan founder of the party on its 2024 results; it says "the U.S. is involved in actual wars in Ukraine and Gaza". It predates her candidacy and is not hers; recorded for completeness.
[Undated within October 2023, so it may fall on either side of October 7] The party's October 2023 campaign flyer, a petition-drive leaflet, was read; it does not mention Israel, Gaza or Palestinians.
The site's Videos page embeds her August 17, 2026 interview on Maryland Public Television and a September 11, 2022 interview with the party's 2022 ticket.
The race
[Read 2026-10-05] Her Ballotpedia page: "Cathy White (Working Class Party) is running for election for Governor of Maryland. White is on the ballot in the general election on November 3, 2026." It lists the general election field as Wes Moore (D), the incumbent, Dan Cox (R), Andy Ellis (G) and Cathy White (Working Class Party), and records that in 2022 she ran for lieutenant governor as the Working Class Party candidate and received 0.9 percent (17,154 votes). She has not completed its 2026 Candidate Connection survey and did not complete its 2022 survey.
[Position, published 2026-07-11] Maryland Matters reported that the party "held its convention in April, nominating White and Permut", and quoted her: "for a long time, the Democrats have not even paid workers lip service."
[Read 2026-10-05] The League of Women Voters of Prince George's County guide, read under her own heading ("Cathy White/Cathy Permut", Working Class Party), carries her answers on affordability, voting, health care, the economy, immigration and her background. None mentions foreign policy. On immigration she wrote: "I am opposed to the actions of ICE." The guide's foreign-policy answers that mention Israel belong to candidates for other offices further on, not to her. The Montgomery County League guide was also opened and lists her ticket.

The party's September 2022 interview video on the same Videos page. Not watched.
Not on the card, and why
Her convention statement's sentence on "another war in the Middle East": her words, but it names no war or country, so it stays in the deep dive as stated and off the front.
The mailer's sentences on Iran, Venezuela and Mexico: not about this question.
The December 2024 national party statement: not hers.
Her answers on wages, health care, housing, the economy and immigration: real positions, but not about U.S. weapons or money for the government of Israel, or about U.S. aid to Palestinians.
Wes Moore's, Dan Cox's and Andy Ellis's records, including the foreign-policy answers of other candidates in the League guides: they belong on their own cards.
