But What Can You Do? tracks where 2026 candidates stand on U.S. weapons and funding for the government of Israel. How we check

How this mark works

We track key votes on sending U.S. weapons and money to the government of Israel. A check means every tracked vote they cast came down against sending more, on the side of peace and de-escalation. A question mark means a mixed record: they sided with sending up to half of the time. An X means they voted to send more weapons and money in over half of their tracked votes, even as the way those weapons and dollars were being used became more and more obvious. At exactly half, money this election cycle from a lobbying group we track, or an endorsement from a group that backs sending weapons, makes it an X. Only votes actually cast are counted. Where a candidate has no recorded votes on these bills, the mark comes instead from a reviewed reading of their public record (money from the lobbying groups we track, endorsements, and their own words since January 26, 2024). There an X also covers fully backing the conduct of the war by the government of Israel without significant reservations, and a question mark also covers speaking about Israel without saying clearly where they stand on U.S. weapons and funding. A dash means No Position Found: we found nothing in their own words about Israel, Gaza or the war.

See a dash? Ask the candidate where they stand, then send us their answer and we'll review it and update the mark. Or volunteer to help review candidates.

No recorded votes on the bills we track. We found nothing in their own words about Israel, Gaza or the war.

No statement since 2016 was found from Higgins on U.S. weapons or money for the government of Israel, or on U.S. aid to Palestinians. In a 2016 candidate survey he disagreed that the U.S. should help defend Israel from attack.

Deep Dive

The one thing on his record is a decade old. In a 2016 candidate survey he disagreed with the statement that the United States should help defend Israel from attack by its enemies. His survey for the 2022 race left the one Israel item unanswered, and his 2026 profile carries no survey. Nothing since has been found, and 3 sources are listed on the research page.

You are better placed to change that than we are. Ask Higgins directly, or at a candidate forum, and send us the reply: it goes on this page in his own words, which is worth more than anything we could write about him.

The money

Research log

The notes behind this card: what we looked at, what we found, and where each item came from.

What was looked for, and what came back

  • **U.S. military aid and weapons to Israel:** [Earlier record, 2016; the survey shows the race, not the day he answered] On his 2016 candidate survey, for the November 8, 2016 general election in Missouri's 2nd District, to the statement "The United States should help defend Israel from attack by its enemies." he answered "Disagree". It is about defending Israel from attack, not about aid or weapons, and it is before October 7, 2023. Other material came back under this heading; it is set out in full below.
  • **Later surveys:** [Non-answer, 2022] On his 2022 survey, for the November 8, 2022 general election in the 8th District, the one Israel item reads "Did not answer". [Checked, 2026] His 2026 profile, for the race in the 3rd District, carries no questionnaire.
  • **Characterization of the conflict:** There are no recorded public statements or written positions by Jim Higgins characterizing the Israel/Palestine conflict.
  • **Rhetoric and lobbying:** There are no recorded public statements or actions by Jim Higgins regarding Israel-related political rhetoric, lobby groups, or advocacy efforts.
  • **Safety and antisemitism:** There are no recorded public statements or actions by Jim Higgins regarding antisemitism or the safety of Jewish communities.

What else came back

The card's claim is about what the United States sends, and no position was found there. These sections returned material beyond a bare verdict. It is reproduced word for word so nothing found is lost; none of it is a position on U.S. weapons or money.

### U.S. military aid and weapons to Israel In a candidate survey completed during his 2016 campaign for Missouri's 2nd Congressional District, Jim Higgins indicated that he disagreed with the statement that the United States should help defend Israel from attack by its enemies (2016). Beyond this survey response, he has not made public statements or taken official actions specifically addressing U.S. military aid or foreign weapons transfers to Israel in his 2026 campaign.
