Kevin Hern
When the administration withheld a bomb shipment from the government of Israel in 2024, Hern called it "unthinkable" and said it endangered the lives of Americans held hostage. His votes run the same way, for U.S. military aid to that government. His campaign site is silent on it.
Hern represents Oklahoma's 1st District and is the Republican nominee for the U.S. Senate. He chaired the Republican Study Committee, which put him in a position to argue about how this money should move as well as whether it should.
On May 8, 2024, after the administration held back a shipment of bombs over the planned Rafah operation, he issued a statement saying the decision endangered both Israeli security and American lives: "Israel is fighting for survival, attacked from multiple terrorist groups funded by Iran. Biden's hollow claims of 'ironclad' support are really nothing more than lip service. This decision endangers not only Israel's security, but also the lives of Americans still held hostage by Hamas." Eight days later the House passed a bill to force delivery of the withheld weapons, and his vote on it is one of the badges on this card.
He has also pressed on the mechanics of the money. On January 31, 2024, as committee chairman, he and the then senator JD Vance urged the Speaker to put an aid bill for the government of Israel on the floor separated from Ukraine aid and carrying no spending cuts to pay for it, in a statement asking for "a clean, un-offset Israel bill on the floor of the House immediately". Those are two people's words, not his alone. In April 2024 he told CBS News that the Speaker's plan to split the aid into separate bills "is doing the right thing".
He has kept saying the same thing since. In October 2024, after the killing of the Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar, he said the government of Israel had his full support in continuing the war: "Israel has my full support as they continue the mission to destroy Hamas." One measure of his is economic rather than military: in March 2024 he and Representative Brad Schneider led a bipartisan resolution calling for stronger free trade between the United States and Israel, and its announcement says the American Israel Public Affairs Committee supported it. His Senate campaign site lists China, veterans, the budget, the border, jobs and gun rights, and says nothing about this subject, so what he has said about it is all from the House.
