But What Can You Do? tracks where 2026 candidates stand on U.S. weapons and funding for the government of Israel. How we check
Gary Lyndon Dye
Libertarian · U.S. Senate, Oregon
–No Position Found
How this mark works
We track key votes on sending U.S. weapons and money to the government of Israel. A check means every tracked vote they cast came down against sending more, on the side of peace and de-escalation. A question mark means a mixed record: they sided with sending up to half of the time. An X means they voted to send more weapons and money in over half of their tracked votes, even as the way those weapons and dollars were being used became more and more obvious. At exactly half, money this election cycle from a lobbying group we track, or an endorsement from a group that backs sending weapons, makes it an X. Only votes actually cast are counted. Where a candidate has no recorded votes on these bills, the mark comes instead from a reviewed reading of their public record (money from the lobbying groups we track, endorsements, and their own words since January 26, 2024). There an X also covers fully backing the conduct of the war by the government of Israel without significant reservations, and a question mark also covers speaking about Israel without saying clearly where they stand on U.S. weapons and funding. A dash means No Position Found: we found nothing in their own words about Israel, Gaza or the war.
No recorded votes on the bills we track. We have not finished reviewing this candidate's public record yet.
Nothing located as of October 2026 has Dye taking a position on U.S. weapons or money for the government of Israel, or on U.S. aid to Palestinians. In his 2024 answers to Ballotpedia's questionnaire he called to "suspend all foreign aid (we’re bankrupt)", naming no country.

Gary Dye, an engineer from Portland who worked in oil refining and natural gas measurement, is the Libertarian nominee for the U.S. Senate in Oregon. He has run for office many times: as the Libertarian Senate nominee in 2020 and in the 2024 Republican primary for the House in Oregon's 3rd District, among other races. He faces Senator Jeff Merkley, the Democrat, David Brock Smith, the Republican, and Chris Henry of the Progressive and Pacific Green parties on November 3. He has never held office, so there are no Senate votes on this record.
This is an empty record on these questions. He chose not to submit a statement for the state's voters' pamphlet, he has not answered Ballotpedia's 2026 questionnaire or any of iVoterGuide's 2026 questions, and the website listed on his filing is his 2020 campaign site, which never mentions Israel or Gaza. The nearest thing is his 2024 questionnaire, which calls to "Bring ALL of our troops home", says "Weapons sales should be determined by stockholders of weapons manufacturers" and would "suspend all foreign aid", without naming any country. An empty record carries no implication either way.
You are better placed to change this than we are. Ask Dye directly, or at a candidate forum, and send us the reply: it goes on this page in his own words, which is worth more than anything we could write about him.
Research log
The notes behind this card: what we looked at, what we found, and where each item came from.
Every page named below was opened and read on 2026-10-05 unless the entry says otherwise. No 2026 campaign site was found; the website given on his 2026 filing, according to a Portland voter guide, is his 2020 Senate campaign site, which was read and searched. Bands: Position (2024-01-26 onward), Reaction window (2023-10-07 to 2024-01-25), Earlier record (before 2023-10-07), Undated. Dye has never held office, so none of the Senate votes this site tracks is his, and no funding from the committees this site tracks is recorded on this record. Nothing located on this subject falls in the reaction window.
U.S. military aid and weapons to the government of Israel
Nothing located, at any date, that names the government of Israel.
[Position, 2024-04-12] His 2024 Ballotpedia Candidate Connection answers, submitted April 12, 2024 for his run in the Republican primary for Oregon's 3rd District. His first key message: "Keep us out of World War III. Stop the warmongering. Bring ALL of our troops home. Minimize our standing army because it is not needed except to engage in foreign wars. Defend North America only, lending our military to allies under attack, only. Weapons sales should be determined by stockholders of weapons manufacturers. Break diplomatic relations with any country that does not have a democratically elected government. Withdraw from the UN until all member governments are democratically elected. Close all embassies (they’re obsolete), suspend all foreign aid (we’re bankrupt)." It names no country.
U.S. aid to Palestinians
Nothing located, at any date.
Characterization of the conflict
Nothing located, at any date.
Israel-related rhetoric and lobbying
Nothing located in the position band.
[Earlier record, 2020] His 2020 iVoterGuide profile, for that year's Senate race, records "Disagree" beside the statement "I support BDS (boycott, divestment, and sanction) against Israel if they refuse to allow the creation of a Palestinian state." He answered most questions on that form. The same form gives "Remove all of our troops from foreign lands." as his first legislative priority.
Safety and antisemitism (context, not an answer to what America sends)
[Read 2026-10-05] His 2020 campaign site, headed "Gary Dye for US Senate 2020", carries five statements dated October 7, 2020 on libertarian principles and the party's message. Its own search returns nothing for Israel, Gaza or Palestinian, and nothing on the site concerns foreign aid to any country.
[Read 2026-10-05] His Ballotpedia page records that he has not completed the 2026 Candidate Connection survey, and lists only personal Facebook, X and LinkedIn accounts.
[Read 2026-10-05] His 2026 iVoterGuide profile reads "Did not answer" on every question, including "Is the United States' relationship with Israel important, and if so why?" A form answered on no question is a fact about the guide's coverage, not about him.
[Read 2026-10-05] Portland Civic Lab's voter guide records him on none of its eight questions, one of which asks about directing the president to end U.S. military involvement in the war with Iran, and notes that no pamphlet statement was filed.
The race
[Read 2026-10-05] His Ballotpedia page: "Incumbent Jeff Merkley (D / Working Families Party), David Brock Smith (R), Gary Dye (L), and Chris Henry (Pacific Green Party of Oregon / Progressive Party) are running in the general election for U.S. Senate Oregon on November 3, 2026." The same page records his earlier races: the Oregon House in 2016, the U.S. House in Oregon's 3rd District in 2018, the U.S. Senate in 2020 as the Libertarian nominee, Oregon Metro Council President in 2022, and the 2024 Republican primary for the 3rd District, which Joanna Harbour won.
Places that could not be read, so nothing is claimed from them
His personal accounts listed by Ballotpedia, https://www.facebook.com/garyldye , https://x.com/GaryLyndonDye and https://www.linkedin.com/in/gary-dye-58767136/ , were not read.
His book, "The Technical Details of Happiness", which he recommends in his 2024 answers, was not read.
Not on the card, and why
His 2020 answer on boycotts of Israel: earlier record, and a boycott question is not about what the United States sends.
His positions on term limits, taxes, citizenship, Social Security and policing: out of scope.
Jeff Merkley's, David Brock Smith's and Chris Henry's records: they belong on their own cards.
