But What Can You Do? tracks where 2026 candidates stand on U.S. weapons and funding for the government of Israel. How we check
Chris Henry

How this mark works
We track key votes on sending U.S. weapons and money to the government of Israel. A check means every tracked vote they cast came down against sending more, on the side of peace and de-escalation. A question mark means a mixed record: they sided with sending up to half of the time. An X means they voted to send more weapons and money in over half of their tracked votes, even as the way those weapons and dollars were being used became more and more obvious. At exactly half, money this election cycle from a lobbying group we track, or an endorsement from a group that backs sending weapons, makes it an X. Only votes actually cast are counted. Where a candidate has no recorded votes on these bills, the mark comes instead from a reviewed reading of their public record (money from the lobbying groups we track, endorsements, and their own words since January 26, 2024). There an X also covers fully backing the conduct of the war by the government of Israel without significant reservations, and a question mark also covers speaking about Israel without saying clearly where they stand on U.S. weapons and funding. A dash means No Position Found: we found nothing in their own words about Israel, Gaza or the war.
No recorded votes on the bills we track. We have not finished reviewing this candidate's public record yet.
Nothing located as of October 2026 has Henry taking a position on U.S. weapons or money for the government of Israel, or on U.S. aid to Palestinians. His voters' pamphlet statement calls to "End Pointless Wars" and cut the U.S. military, naming no country.

Chris Henry, a union truck driver and former aircraft mechanic, is the U.S. Senate nominee of both the Oregon Progressive Party, of which he is a former co-chair, and the Pacific Green Party. He ran for the Senate in 2022 and for state treasurer in 2016 and 2020. He faces Senator Jeff Merkley, the Democrat, David Brock Smith, the Republican, and Gary Dye, the Libertarian, on November 3. He has never held office, so there are no Senate votes on this record.
His statement in the state's voters' pamphlet is headed "CUT MASSIVE U.$. MILITARY" and reads: "End Pointless Wars. U.S. military has 128 foreign bases in 51 countries and operations in 29 more, consuming 50% of federal discretionary spending, including over 90,000 troops in Japan and Germany alone." The only war it names is the one with Iran, in a call to tax oil companies' profits from it. It ends: "See Progressive Party platform later in this Voters' Pamphlet." That platform, furnished by the party, lists among its demands "End wars against Iran and Gaza". The Pacific Green Party's own page in the same pamphlet tells voters: "Don't support a party that cozies up to techno-fascist and helps Israel commit genocide." Those are his parties' words, not his, and neither says what the United States should send or withhold.
Nothing in his own words addresses U.S. weapons or money for the government of Israel, or U.S. aid to Palestinians. His campaign site never mentions Israel or Gaza, he has not answered Ballotpedia's 2026 questionnaire, and iVoterGuide's 2026 form carries no answers from him. You are better placed to ask him than we are: ask Henry whether he shares his parties' words on Gaza and what he would do about U.S. weapons for the government of Israel, and send us the reply. It goes on this page in his own words.
Research log
The notes behind this card: what we looked at, what we found, and where each item came from.
Every page named below was opened and read on 2026-10-05 unless the entry says otherwise. His campaign site was read in full: the home page and the pages About Chris, Issues, My Positions, Oregon Is Strong, Videos and LWV Info. Bands: Position (2024-01-26 onward), Reaction window (2023-10-07 to 2024-01-25), Earlier record (before 2023-10-07), Undated. Undated pages are recorded on the date we read them. Henry has never held office, so none of the Senate votes this site tracks is his, and no funding from the committees this site tracks is recorded on this record. Nothing located on this subject falls in the reaction window.
U.S. military aid and weapons to the government of Israel
Nothing located in his own words, at any date, that names the government of Israel.
[Position, read 2026-10-05] His statement in the Oregon Secretary of State's voters' pamphlet for November 3, 2026, page 31, "(This information furnished by Chris Henry.)": under the heading "CUT MASSIVE U.$. MILITARY", "End Pointless Wars. U.S. military has 128 foreign bases in 51 countries and operations in 29 more, consuming 50% of federal discretionary spending, including over 90,000 troops in Japan and Germany alone. National debt is $40 trillion." Elsewhere it calls to "Tax oil company excess profits due to the Iran war." It names no other country or war. His campaign site carries the same platform under "CUT THE MASSIVE U.S. MILITARY INDUSTRIAL COMPLEX".
[Read 2026-10-05] His campaign site's My Positions page lists, among many items, the "Kellogg-Briand Pact (Outlawry of War)" and a "Peace Tax Dividend (divert federal war taxes to human needs)".
U.S. aid to Palestinians
Nothing located, at any date.
Characterization of the conflict
Nothing located in his own words, at any date.
[Position, read 2026-10-05] The Oregon Progressive Party's page in the same pamphlet, page 22, "(This information furnished by Oregon Progressive Party.)", lists among the policies it says set it apart: "End wars against Iran and Gaza" and "Slash military spending (now $1 trillion per year) and reduce our military bases in 80 countries". His own statement ends "See Progressive Party platform later in this Voters' Pamphlet." It is the party's statement, so it supports only the party's wording.
[Position, read 2026-10-05] The Pacific Green Party's page in the same pamphlet, page 21, "(This information furnished by Pacific Green Party.)", which names him as its Senate candidate: "Don't support a party that cozies up to techno-fascist and helps Israel commit genocide. Vote for a party that condemns authoritarianism, opposes the surveillance state, and vehemently condemns genocide." It is the party's statement, not his.
[Position, 2024-10-08] His 2024 answers to Ballotpedia's Candidate Connection survey, from a local race, say he means to be "a true advocate for the people and the planet - whether that be for workers and the environment here in Portland, or for those suffering under military occupation abroad." They name no place.
Israel-related rhetoric and lobbying
Nothing located, at any date.
[Earlier record, 2022] His 2022 iVoterGuide profile reads "Did not answer" beside a statement supporting the boycott, divestment and sanctions movement against Israel, as it does on every question on that form, so the blank says nothing about him.
Safety and antisemitism (context, not an answer to what America sends)
Nothing located, at any date.
What the campaign site and own pages say
[Read 2026-10-05] His campaign site lists his nominating parties as the Oregon Progressive Party and the Pacific Green Party, and his platform as cutting the military, Medicare for All, higher wages, ending big money in politics and a state bank for Oregon. Its Issues and LWV Info pages carry material from his earlier races for labor commissioner and treasurer. The words Israel, Gaza and Palestinian appear on none of its pages.
[Read 2026-10-05] His Ballotpedia page records that he has not completed the 2026 Candidate Connection survey.
[Read 2026-10-05] His 2026 iVoterGuide profile reads "Did not answer" on every question, including "Is the United States' relationship with Israel important, and if so why?" A fact about the guide's coverage, not about him.
[Read 2026-10-05] Portland Civic Lab's voter guide summarizes his pamphlet statement and records him on four of its eight questions, none of them about Israel.
The race
[Read 2026-10-05] Ballotpedia: "Incumbent Jeff Merkley (D / Working Families Party), David Brock Smith (R), Gary Dye (L), and Chris Henry (Pacific Green Party of Oregon / Progressive Party) are running in the general election for U.S. Senate Oregon on November 3, 2026." It records his earlier races, including the U.S. Senate in 2022 and Oregon treasurer in 2016 and 2020. The state pamphlet's candidate list gives "Chris Henry / Progressive, Pacific Green".
Places that could not be read, so nothing is claimed from them
The state's separate candidate statements file our research cited, https://sos.oregon.gov/elections/Voters-Pamphlet/Documents/Candidate-Statements.pdf , returns 404. The same statements are in the pamphlet book read above.
His campaign videos page and the League of Women Voters interview it links were not watched.
Not on the card, and why
The Progressive Party's "End wars against Iran and Gaza" and the Pacific Green Party's "helps Israel commit genocide": party statements, not his own words. They are in the deep dive, attributed to the parties.
His call to tax oil companies' profits from the Iran war: Iran is not this card's subject.
His positions on wages, tariffs, health care, taxes, earthquake preparedness and campaign finance: out of scope.
Jeff Merkley's, David Brock Smith's and Gary Dye's records: they belong on their own cards.
