But What Can You Do? tracks where 2026 candidates stand on U.S. weapons and funding for the government of Israel. How we check

How this mark works

We track key votes on sending U.S. weapons and money to the government of Israel. A check means every tracked vote they cast came down against sending more, on the side of peace and de-escalation. A question mark means a mixed record: they sided with sending up to half of the time. An X means they voted to send more weapons and money in over half of their tracked votes, even as the way those weapons and dollars were being used became more and more obvious. At exactly half, money this election cycle from a lobbying group we track, or an endorsement from a group that backs sending weapons, makes it an X. Only votes actually cast are counted. Where a candidate has no recorded votes on these bills, the mark comes instead from a reviewed reading of their public record (money from the lobbying groups we track, endorsements, and their own words since January 26, 2024). There an X also covers fully backing the conduct of the war by the government of Israel without significant reservations, and a question mark also covers speaking about Israel without saying clearly where they stand on U.S. weapons and funding. A dash means No Position Found: we found nothing in their own words about Israel, Gaza or the war.

See a dash? Ask the candidate where they stand, then send us their answer and we'll review it and update the mark. Or volunteer to help review candidates.

No recorded votes on the bills we track. We have not finished reviewing this candidate's public record yet.

Addison, the United Citizens Party nominee, campaigns on his work as a medical director, asbestos inspector and community organizer. Nothing located has him taking a position on U.S. weapons or money for the government of Israel, or on U.S. aid to Palestinians.

Deep Dive

Dr. Michael Addison is the United Citizens Party's nominee for governor of South Carolina. His campaign site presents him as a medical director who has cared for more than 15,000 patients in the state, a licensed asbestos inspector and property damage analyst who testifies as an expert witness, and a community organizer who works on foreclosure prevention, job training and homelessness. He has run for office before: against Representative Jim Clyburn in the 2022 Democratic primary for the 6th District, and for the state Senate in 2020 and twice in 2024. The seat is open. He faces Alan Wilson, the Republican, Jermaine Johnson, the Democrat, and Walid Hakim of the Green Party on November 3.

On the question this site asks, the record is empty rather than thin. His campaign site describes his qualifications rather than a platform, and the words Israel, Gaza and Palestinian appear nowhere on it. He has not completed Ballotpedia's candidate survey in this race or any earlier one, and iVoterGuide's profile for this race records no answer from him to any of its 34 questions, one of which asks about the relationship with Israel. A governor casts no federal votes on any of this. An empty record carries no implication either way.

Reports of his tax and wage proposals, and his campaign's Facebook, X, YouTube and TikTok accounts, which could not be read here, are on his research page.

You are better placed to change this than we are. Ask Addison directly, or at a candidate forum, and send us the reply: it goes on this page in his own words, which is worth more than anything we could write about him.

Research log

The notes behind this card: what we looked at, what we found, and where each item came from.

Every page named below was opened and read on 2026-10-05 unless the entry says otherwise. His campaign site was read in full: the home page, Get Involved, Friends of Michael Addison and its blog feed (a Gallery link returns 404). Bands: Position (2024-01-26 onward), Reaction window (2023-10-07 to 2024-01-25), Earlier record (before 2023-10-07), Undated. Addison has never held federal office, so none of the congressional votes this site tracks is his, and a campaign for state office is not covered by the federal funding records this site tracks.

U.S. military aid and weapons to the government of Israel

  • Nothing located, at any date.

U.S. aid to Palestinians

  • Nothing located, at any date.

Characterization of the conflict

  • Nothing located, at any date. The words Israel, Gaza, Palestinian, Hamas, Middle East and antisemitism appear nowhere on his campaign site.

Israel-related rhetoric and lobbying

  • [Read 2026-10-05] iVoterGuide's profile for this race shows "Did not answer" against all 34 of its questions, among them "Is the United States' relationship with Israel important, and if so why?", and "Candidate did not provide" for every biography field. It lists the United Citizens Party as his one endorsement. With no answer on any subject, this is a fact about the guide's coverage, not a position.
  • [Reaction window: the guide for the January 2, 2024 special election] iVoterGuide's profile for his 2024 special state Senate race likewise shows "Did not answer" against every question, including a statement on the boycott, divestment and sanctions movement. He gave no answers there either.

Safety and antisemitism (context, not an answer to what America sends)

  • Nothing located, at any date.

What the campaign site and own pages say

  • [Position, read 2026-10-05] His campaign site is headed "The Right Man for the Right Times". It says: "As a Medical Director, he provided care and diagnosis to over 15,000 patients in South Carolina"; that he is "a Licensed Asbestos Inspector, EPA Certified, and OSHA Certified property damage analyst" called "to testify as an Expert Witness in court"; and that "As a Community Organizer with R.A.C.E., he stands on the front lines, providing foreclosure prevention, job training, and relief for the homeless and those in distress." It closes on "healthcare expertise, environmental accountability, and hands-on community service". It sets out no policy platform. The page carries no date and is recorded on the date we read it.
  • [Reported, not confirmed directly; published 2026-09-25] A We are Savers article, on a personal-finance news site that illustrates its stories with AI images, says he is campaigning on eliminating the state income tax while raising the sales tax by three points, a $15 state minimum wage, a telemedicine program it calls the Palmetto Public Option, and data center and AI task forces, and calls him chair of the South Carolina NAACP's environmental committee. It names no source for these and quotes him nowhere. Third-party description; none of it is used on the card.

The race

  • [Read 2026-10-05] His Ballotpedia page: "Michael Addison (United Citizens Party) is running for election for Governor of South Carolina. He is on the ballot in the general election on November 3, 2026." It lists the field as Jermaine Johnson (D), Alan Wilson (R), Walid Hakim (G) and Michael Addison (United Citizens Party), says there are no incumbents, and lists Gary Votour (Workers Party) and Harry Charles II (Independent) as withdrawn or disqualified. It records his earlier races: the 2020 Democratic primary for state Senate District 40 (lost to Brad Hutto); the 2022 Democratic primary for U.S. House District 6 (lost to James Clyburn, with 7.6 percent, 4,203 votes); the January 2, 2024 special general election for state Senate District 19, as the Independence Party candidate; and the June 11, 2024 Democratic primary for the same seat. It records that he did not complete its survey in 2020, 2022, 2024 or 2026.
  • [Position, published 2026-10-05] WIS, carried by FOX Carolina, reports that Johnson and Wilson will debate on October 6 and lists Addison (United Citizens) and Hakim (Green) as the two other candidates on the ballot, not scheduled to appear.

Places that could not be read, so nothing is claimed from them

  • His campaign accounts, listed by Ballotpedia: https://www.facebook.com/addisonforsc , https://x.com/addisonforsc , https://www.youtube.com/@addisonforsc and https://www.tiktok.com/@addisonforsc , and his personal Facebook page. Not read.
  • His 2022 congressional campaign's own pages, if any survive. Not looked for; a federal race is the likeliest place for an earlier statement.

Not on the card, and why

  • The We are Savers account of his platform and his NAACP role: a third party's description with no named source, so research page only.
  • Michael Addison of New Hampshire, whose death-penalty case appears in searches (for example https://wzid.com/news/042240-addison-awaits-response-from-new-hampshire-supreme-court-over-possible-change-in-sentence/ and https://deathpenaltyinfo.org/resources/publications-and-testimony/p18?did=415), and Michael Addison, a theatre professor emeritus listed at https://theatre.ucsd.edu/people/faculty/emeritus/index.html : different people. Nothing from them is used.
  • Alan Wilson's, Jermaine Johnson's and Walid Hakim's records: they belong on their own cards.
