But What Can You Do? tracks where 2026 candidates stand on U.S. weapons and funding for the government of Israel. How we check
Seth Harp
How this mark works
We track key votes on sending U.S. weapons and money to the government of Israel. A check means every tracked vote they cast came down against sending more, on the side of peace and de-escalation. A question mark means a mixed record: they sided with sending up to half of the time. An X means they voted to send more weapons and money in over half of their tracked votes, even as the way those weapons and dollars were being used became more and more obvious. At exactly half, money this election cycle from a lobbying group we track, or an endorsement from a group that backs sending weapons, makes it an X. Only votes actually cast are counted. Where a candidate has no recorded votes on these bills, the mark comes instead from a reviewed reading of their public record (money from the lobbying groups we track, endorsements, and their own words since January 26, 2024). There an X also covers fully backing the conduct of the war by the government of Israel without significant reservations, and a question mark also covers speaking about Israel without saying clearly where they stand on U.S. weapons and funding. A dash means No Position Found: we found nothing in their own words about Israel, Gaza or the war.
See a dash? Ask the candidate where they stand, then send us their answer and we'll review it and update the mark. Or volunteer to help review candidates.
No recorded votes on the bills we track. We found nothing in their own words about Israel, Gaza or the war.
Nothing located as of September 2026 has Harp taking a position on U.S. weapons or money for the government of Israel, or on U.S. aid to Palestinians. His campaign platform sets out thirteen proposals, every one of them domestic.

Deep Dive
Seth Harp is the Democratic nominee in Florida’s 3rd District, which covers Gainesville, Ocala and the counties of north central Florida from the Georgia line to the Gulf. He teaches seventh-grade civics at Lincoln Middle School in Gainesville and spent twenty-five years in radio, latterly running ESPN Gainesville and teaching as an adjunct in the University of Florida’s College of Journalism. He won the Democratic primary on August 18, 2026 and faces Representative Kat Cammack and Mike Klein, who has no party affiliation, on November 3.
This is an empty record on these questions rather than a thin one. His platform, thirteen proposals he calls the 13 Stripes of Strength, runs from Social Security and child care through housing, student loans, veterans’ dental care and Florida’s water, and not one of them is about foreign policy. He has filled in three candidate questionnaires and answered every question on all three: Ballotpedia’s, in June 2025, which asks about his life, his priorities and the House as an institution; the district voter’s guide published by News4JAX in July 2026; and the News Collaborative of Central Florida’s five questions, which are about affordability, property taxes, utilities and the environment. None of the three put a question to him about Israel, Gaza or foreign aid, and he raised none of them himself. The fourteen issue statements he has written for BallotReady, grouped under eight headings including one called Defense and Veterans, are about dental coverage for veterans and about domestic policy throughout. An empty record carries no implication either way.
One thing is worth saying plainly, because a search will turn it up. A journalist and author of the same name writes about American foreign policy, the military and the Middle East for national magazines, and a former Republican state senator in Georgia shares it too. Neither is this candidate, and nothing either of them has written or said is on this card or was used in preparing it.
The three accounts his campaign links to, on Facebook, Instagram and X, could not be read here. The X account is plainly his and carries more than sixteen hundred posts going back to January 2025, and all three addresses are on his research page so that anyone who can open them may look.
You are better placed to change this than we are. Ask Harp directly, or at a candidate forum, and send us the reply: it goes on this page in his own words, which is worth more than anything we could write about him.

Research log
The notes behind this card: what we looked at, what we found, and where each item came from.
Every page named below was opened and read on 2026-09-07 unless the entry says otherwise. His campaign site was read in full: its home, about, issues and events pages, and the sign-up section its Get Involved link opens. Bands: Position (2024-01-26 onward), Reaction window (2023-10-07 to 2024-01-25), Earlier record (before 2023-10-07), Undated. Harp has never held office, so none of the congressional votes this site tracks is his, and no funding from the committees this site tracks is recorded on this record.
U.S. military aid and weapons to the government of Israel
- Nothing located, at any date. No statement by him about arms transfers, weapons shipments, Foreign Military Financing, security assistance or any bill on those subjects appears on his campaign site, in any of the three candidate questionnaires he has completed, in the fourteen issue statements he has written for BallotReady, or in any news report about his campaign read for this card.
U.S. aid to Palestinians
- Nothing located, at any date. Neither UNRWA, nor Gaza humanitarian funding, nor the aid pipeline appears anywhere in his published material.
Characterization of the conflict
- Nothing located, at any date. The words Israel, Gaza, Palestinian, Hamas, Middle East and foreign policy appear nowhere on his campaign site, in his questionnaire answers or in his issue statements. The only occurrences of the word war in any of it are in his biography, where he lists his grandfathers' service in the Second World War, an uncle in Korea, an uncle in Vietnam and friends and family in the War on Terror.
Israel-related rhetoric and lobbying
- Nothing located, at any date. No statement by him about the American Israel Public Affairs Committee, about any other advocacy organization on this subject, or about money from any of them was found, and no pledge about their donations was found under his name. His Ballotpedia page lists his endorsements as the Democratic Environmental Caucus of Florida and four voter-guide lists run by individuals through the Sway platform; none of them is an organization on this subject.
Safety and antisemitism
- Nothing located, at any date. Nothing in his published material addresses antisemitism or the safety of any religious community.
What his platform actually says
- [Undated; read 2026-09-07] His issues page sets out the thirteen proposals he calls the 13 Stripes of Strength: raising the Social Security payroll tax cap to $250,000; guaranteed health care through what he calls the U.N.I.T.E. Act; a child care subsidy he calls the C.U.B.S. Act; the H.E.A.R.T. Act, taxing corporate purchases of single-family homes; the D.O. Initiative to double the behavioral health workforce; the S.L.I.C.E. Act, capping student loan interest at 3.1 percent; a cap on chief executive pay at 150 times the median employee salary; the F.A.I.R. Plan for $10 broadband; restoring the corporate tax rate to 26 percent; the M.A.K.E. Act, dental coverage for veterans through the Department of Veterans Affairs; the Triple E Program on stock-based executive pay; the F.U.E.L. Initiative for universal school lunch; and the Florida L.I.F.E. Line on water conservation and lead pipes. His home page, his biography page and his events page carry no foreign policy of any kind.
- [Undated; read 2026-09-07] The Ballot Brief's Florida guide summarises him as running on "a 13-point affordability platform he calls the 13 Stripes of Strength, covering housing, insurance and utility costs" and lists his priorities as housing and insurance affordability, expanding affordable health care, and government transparency and accountability.
The questionnaires he has answered
- [Position, submitted 2025-06-12; read 2026-09-07] Ballotpedia's Candidate Connection survey. He answered every question on the form, at length, including "What areas of public policy are you personally passionate about?", "What do you perceive to be the United States' greatest challenges as a nation over the next decade?" and "What committees interest you?". His answers name Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid, the Supreme Court and gerrymandering, term limits, FEMA cuts, Florida's springs, and the four committees he would like to serve on: Science, Space and Technology; Ethics; Transportation and Infrastructure; and Ways and Means. No question on the form asked about foreign policy, and he raised none. The form's silence on this subject is a fact about the form; his silence, on a form that invited him twice to name what matters most to him, is recorded here for what it is worth.
- [Position, 2026-07-31] The News4JAX voter's guide for this district put three questions to every candidate: the top three issues in the race, how he can help voters in a way others cannot, and what he would want to be remembered for. He answered all three. His answers are about affordability, health care, education and trust in government. The same page records that the incumbent did not respond to the guide.
- [Position, 2026-07-31] The News Collaborative of Central Florida's guide to the Democratic primary, the questionnaire the Ballot Brief cites as his Central Florida Public Media responses, put five questions to the primary candidates: the three most pressing problems, housing affordability, the property tax amendment, utility costs and data centers, and the biggest environmental issue. He answered all five. Every question is about Florida, and none is about foreign policy.
- [Position, read 2026-09-07] BallotReady's profile carries fourteen issue statements in his own words, grouped under eight headings: Defense and Veterans, Education, Environment and Energy, Healthcare, Housing, Infrastructure and Transportation, Legislation, and Taxes and Budget. The Defense and Veterans statement is entirely about dental care for veterans. None of the fourteen mentions foreign policy.
- No profile for him on iVoterGuide could be found for this race or any earlier one.
Same name, different people
- The searched material for this card had to be separated from two other men named Seth Harp. One is a journalist and author who writes for national magazines about American foreign policy, the military and the Middle East, and who posts about those subjects under the handle @sethharpesq; the other is a former Republican member of the Georgia State Senate. Neither is the candidate in Florida's 3rd District, and nothing written or said by either is used anywhere on this card. The candidate's own accounts are listed below, and BallotReady's profile verifies them alongside his employment at Alachua County Public Schools and the University of Florida.
The race
- [Undated; read 2026-09-07] Ballotpedia: "Incumbent Kat Cammack, Seth Harp, and Mike Klein are running in the general election for U.S. House Florida District 3 on November 3, 2026." And: "Seth Harp defeated Tom Wells, Troy Albers, and George Hubac in the Democratic primary for U.S. House Florida District 3 on August 18, 2026."
- [Position, 2026-08-18] FOX 35 Orlando's report of the primary result sets out his platform as civic engagement, Social Security, health care and child care. It describes him as a sixth-grade civics teacher; his own campaign site and his answer to the News4JAX guide both say seventh grade, and the card follows his own account.
Places that could not be read, so nothing is claimed from them
- The three accounts his campaign and BallotReady list as his: https://www.facebook.com/HarpForCongress/ , https://www.instagram.com/harpforcongress/ and https://x.com/harpforcongress . The X profile page loads far enough to show that the account is his, describing itself as "Candidate for #FL03 | Leader | Educator | Winner | Character Matters", based in Gainesville, linked to sethharp.com, opened in January 2025 and carrying 1,685 posts; the posts themselves need a signed-in reader. The Facebook and Instagram pages returned nothing readable. Their addresses are printed rather than linked because they do not open here.

Not on the card, and why
- The whole of his platform and all of his questionnaire answers on Social Security, health care, child care, housing, student debt, corporate pay, broadband, taxes, veterans' dental care, school lunch, water, the Supreme Court, term limits and FEMA: real positions, but not about U.S. weapons or money for the government of Israel, or about U.S. aid to Palestinians. They are listed above so the absence can be checked.
- Everything written or said by the journalist Seth Harp and by the former Georgia state senator of the same name: different people.
- Kat Cammack's and Mike Klein's answers in the district voter's guide: they belong on their own cards.
