But What Can You Do? tracks where 2026 candidates stand on U.S. weapons and funding for the government of Israel. How we check

Mike Klein

Other · U.S. House, Florida District 3
–
How this mark works

We track key votes on sending U.S. weapons and money to the government of Israel. A check means every tracked vote they cast came down against sending more, on the side of peace and de-escalation. A question mark means a mixed record: they sided with sending up to half of the time. An X means they voted to send more weapons and money in over half of their tracked votes, even as the way those weapons and dollars were being used became more and more obvious. At exactly half, money this election cycle from a lobbying group we track, or an endorsement from a group that backs sending weapons, makes it an X. Only votes actually cast are counted. Where a candidate has no recorded votes on these bills, the mark comes instead from a reviewed reading of their public record (money from the lobbying groups we track, endorsements, and their own words since January 26, 2024). There an X also covers fully backing the conduct of the war by the government of Israel without significant reservations, and a question mark also covers speaking about Israel without saying clearly where they stand on U.S. weapons and funding. A dash means No Position Found: we found nothing in their own words about Israel, Gaza or the war.

See a dash? Ask the candidate where they stand, then send us their answer and we'll review it and update the mark. Or volunteer to help review candidates.

No recorded votes on the bills we track. We found nothing in their own words about Israel, Gaza or the war.

Nothing located as of September 2026 has Klein taking a position on U.S. weapons or money for the government of Israel, or on U.S. aid to Palestinians. His platform’s foreign policy plank, headed Strength Through Peace, calls for diplomacy first and names no country.

Deep Dive

Mike Klein is running for Congress in Florida’s 3rd District with no party affiliation. A fifth-generation Floridian who grew up in Gainesville, he graduated from West Point in 1989 and served as an infantry lieutenant in Operation Desert Storm, and he co-founded and chairs Warrior Centric Health, which works on the quality of care for service members and veterans. He has not held office. He faces Representative Kat Cammack, the Republican, and Seth Harp, the Democratic nominee, on November 3.

The nearest his published material comes to this question is general. The second of the five pillars of his platform, Strength Through Peace, says war is a last resort, calls for upholding domestic and international law “without exception”, and says foreign policy must serve the American people, “not special interests, defense contractors, or foreign lobbying groups”. It lists “foreign aid accountability” among the ways to rebuild American influence. None of it names a country, a weapon, a dollar figure or a bill, and the words Israel, Gaza and Palestinian appear nowhere on his campaign site, in his Ballotpedia answers or in his long interview with Military.com.

His campaign’s central theme is money in politics. In his Ballotpedia questionnaire he wrote: “I am committed to not taking any corporate PAC or special interest money.” That pledge names no organization, and nothing located from him mentions the American Israel Public Affairs Committee, a lobbying organization that works for close ties between the United States and Israel. An empty record carries no implication either way.

His campaign’s accounts on X, Instagram and TikTok could not be read here, and only a few posts on its Facebook page and Threads account were. Their addresses are on his research page so that anyone who can open them may look.

You are better placed to change this than we are. Ask Klein directly, or at a candidate forum, and send us the reply: it goes on this page in his own words, which is worth more than anything we could write about him.

Research log

The notes behind this card: what we looked at, what we found, and where each item came from.

Our research for this card began with a search run on 2026-09-07, and every page below was opened and read on 2026-09-25 unless the entry says otherwise. His campaign site was read in full: its home page, its Meet Mike page, its five pillars, its events, gallery and press pages. His Ballotpedia page and his Candidate Connection answers were read in full, along with the Military.com interview, the two campaign Facebook posts our research pointed to, the recent posts on his Threads account and the captions of the six videos on his YouTube channel. He has held no office, so there are no recorded votes on this record, and no tracked funding. Bands: Position (2024-01-26 onward), Reaction window (2023-10-07 to 2024-01-25), Earlier record (before 2023-10-07), Undated. Nothing located falls in the reaction window or earlier.

U.S. military aid and weapons to the government of Israel

  • Nothing located, at any date. No statement by him about arms transfers, military aid, Foreign Military Financing, a dollar figure, a condition on aid, or any bill on those subjects appears on his campaign site, in his Ballotpedia answers, in the Military.com interview, in the posts and videos read, or in any news report read for this card.
  • [Position; the page was published 2026-04-18 and last modified 2026-07-29] The closest material names no country. Pillar 2 of his platform, Strength Through Peace, opens: “Real strength is not the willingness to start wars. It is the wisdom to avoid them, and the courage to lead with integrity on the world stage.” Its five points include “Champion diplomacy and principled engagement. War is a last resort — not a tool of political convenience or executive ego.”, “Uphold domestic and international law without exception. No President or administration is above the rule of law.”, “Foreign policy must serve the American people — not special interests, defense contractors, or foreign lobbying groups.” and “Rebuild America's global reputation and influence through cultural diplomacy, foreign aid accountability, and multilateral leadership.”
  • [Position; the page was last modified 2026-08-26] His Meet Mike page: “Mike opposed the Iraq War, believing the constitutional standard for sending Americans into combat had not been met.” It adds that the Constitution is clear about Congress’s responsibility to declare war.

U.S. aid to Palestinians

  • Nothing located, at any date. The United Nations agency for Palestinian refugees, humanitarian aid for Gaza and the aid pipeline appear nowhere in his published material. The only mention of foreign aid is the phrase “foreign aid accountability” in his platform, which names no recipient.

Characterization of the conflict

  • Nothing located, at any date. The words Israel, Gaza, Palestinian and Hamas appear nowhere on his campaign site, in his Ballotpedia answers, in the Military.com interview or in the posts and videos read.

Israel-related rhetoric and lobbying

  • [Position, 2026-08-01] His Ballotpedia questionnaire, submitted August 1, 2026, says in its key messages: “I am committed to not taking any corporate PAC or special interest money.” Ballotpedia also lists him as a signer of the Unrig Washington Pledge. Neither names an organization on this subject.
  • [Position, 2026-08-16] A post on his campaign’s Facebook page: “Mike Klein believes we need Independent candidates outside the two-party system — candidates beholden only to their constituents, not corporate PACs or special interests.” The post goes on to say that Washington “plunges us into expensive, endless war” and “picks fights abroad”, and is tagged for the war with Iran. Its images are about his Republican opponent. It names no organization on this subject.
  • [Position, 2026-08-12] Another post on his campaign’s Facebook page thanks the mayor of Micanopy for a conversation about the town’s economy. It does not concern this subject.
  • [2026-08-12 and 2026-08-16, by our research’s account; not found] Our research reported that those two posts carried a campaign statement describing him as having committed to taking no corporate PAC, special interest or AIPAC money. Both posts opened and were read in full, including the text Facebook reads out of their images, and neither contains the word AIPAC or any mention of the committee. The nearest wording is his own, above: a pledge against corporate political action committee and special-interest money that names no organization. The reported words are therefore not his verified words and are not used.
  • [Position; the page was last modified 2026-07-29] His platform, under Pillar 1, calls to “Ban corporate PACs and dark money that distort elections and undermine the public trust.” and, under Pillar 2, says foreign policy should not serve “foreign lobbying groups”. Neither names a country or an organization.
  • [2026-07-03, by our research’s account; could not be read] Florida Politics’ report on his campaign launch concert is reported to quote him saying the district deserves a representative free from party bosses, corporate donors and foreign interests. The page could not be opened, so the words are not quoted.

Safety and antisemitism (context, not an answer to what America sends)

  • Nothing located, at any date.

The race and his own account of himself

  • [Undated; read 2026-09-25] Ballotpedia’s page for the race: “Incumbent Kat Cammack (R), Seth Harp (D), and Mike Klein (No Party Affiliation) are running in the general election for U.S. House Florida District 3 on November 3, 2026.” Harp won the Democratic primary on August 18, 2026 with 45.2 percent; the Republican primary was cancelled and Cammack advanced without appearing on a primary ballot.
  • [2026-07-23] Military.com’s interview with him, published July 23, 2026: he graduated from West Point in 1989, served in the 25th Infantry Division and was deployed as a lieutenant in Operation Desert Storm, and left the reserve in 2003. In it he calls both parties “incredibly corrupt, riddled with special interests and unaccountable money” and describes his Strength Through Peace pillar as global leadership through diplomacy. He names the Iran war as one of the things the electorate is angry about. Nothing in the interview concerns Israel or Gaza.
  • [Undated; read 2026-09-25] His campaign site: the home page, Meet Mike, the five pillars, events, gallery and press. The events page lists a September 24, 2026 conversation with former Representative Dennis Kucinich “about the war with Iran, the path to peace, and the influence of money on the decisions shaping our future”, and a June 2026 Strength Through Peace evening in Lake City. The war with Iran is a different question from what the United States sends the government of Israel, and it is recorded here for completeness.
  • [Position, 2026-08-15] A campaign video on his YouTube channel says, in its captions, that the donor class dictates foreign policy and names oil company profits during a conflict that disrupts oil supplies. It names no country. The other five videos on the channel are about veterans, independents, community resilience and a July 4 event, and none concerns this subject.
  • [Undated; read 2026-09-25] His Threads profile and its recent posts are about volunteers, a veterans breakfast and the Kucinich event. Nothing in them concerns this subject.
  • [Position, 2026-09-22; read 2026-10-01] The Independent Florida Alligator's report of a campaign event at Cafe Voltaire in Gainesville, held for the International Day of Peace, says he called for abolishing Immigration and Customs Enforcement, for immigration reform and for investing in the United Nations, and set the $1.3 billion the United States owes the United Nations against what the report says he called $38 billion spent on the war with Iran. Nothing in the report concerns Israel, Gaza or aid to Palestinians. The war with Iran is a different question from what the United States sends the government of Israel.
  • [Position, 2026-09-25; read 2026-10-01] The Alligator's report of the September 24, 2026 forum at the Hippodrome Theatre, an event titled "Iran War & Peace" that he held with former Representative Dennis Kucinich and UF College Independents, says the two discussed "foreign policy, congressional war powers, money in politics, the path for an independent in Congress and Klein's core values." The words it quotes from him are about corruption, independents and integrity. Nothing in the report concerns Israel, Gaza or aid to Palestinians.
  • [Undated; read 2026-10-01] A profile of him published by Independent Veterans of America, a group that organizes politically independent veterans and that says its page is not authorized by any candidate, lists his priorities as getting money out of politics, the cost of living, Social Security, health care and veterans' care, and names Dennis Kucinich, Veterans for Voters and Scott Camil of Veterans for Peace as early supporters. It is a third party's page, and nothing on it concerns this subject.
  • [2026-09-26; read 2026-10-01] A Facebook post by Scott Camil, a supporter, describes the September 24 forum as a conversation about foreign policy, the donor class and the history of war, and repeats the Alligator's quotation of Kucinich. It is a third party's post, and nothing in it concerns this subject.

Not on the card, and why

  • The reported statement that he committed to taking no AIPAC money: it was not found in either post it was attributed to, or anywhere else of his that was read.
  • His events and posts about the war with Iran, and his video about oil companies and foreign policy: Iran is a different question from what the United States sends the government of Israel, and the video names no country.
  • The health care, basic income, Social Security, apprenticeship, antitrust, gerrymandering, immigration enforcement and veterans material on his campaign site: out of scope. It is listed above so the absence is checkable.
  • Kat Cammack’s and Seth Harp’s records, including the images about Cammack in his August 16 post: they belong on their own cards.
