But What Can You Do? tracks where 2026 candidates stand on U.S. weapons and funding for the government of Israel. How we check

Lindsay "Rubia" Garcia

Democrat · U.S. House, Louisiana District 6
?
How this mark works

We track key votes on sending U.S. weapons and money to the government of Israel. A check means every tracked vote they cast came down against sending more, on the side of peace and de-escalation. A question mark means a mixed record: they sided with sending up to half of the time. An X means they voted to send more weapons and money in over half of their tracked votes, even as the way those weapons and dollars were being used became more and more obvious. At exactly half, money this election cycle from a lobbying group we track, or an endorsement from a group that backs sending weapons, makes it an X. Only votes actually cast are counted. Where a candidate has no recorded votes on these bills, the mark comes instead from a reviewed reading of their public record (money from the lobbying groups we track, endorsements, and their own words since January 26, 2024). There an X also covers fully backing the conduct of the war by the government of Israel without significant reservations, and a question mark also covers speaking about Israel without saying clearly where they stand on U.S. weapons and funding. A dash means No Position Found: we found nothing in their own words about Israel, Gaza or the war.

See a dash? Ask the candidate where they stand, then send us their answer and we'll review it and update the mark. Or volunteer to help review candidates.

Two reviewers, reading the public record as a whole, agree: In an October 2025 Facebook post she says she will "refrain from prematurely celebrating about a ceasefire until Palestinian statehood is recognized", without saying where she stands on U.S. weapons and funding for the government of Israel. Reviewed by hand on 2026-10-09. This candidate has no recorded tracked floor votes.

Garcia wrote in October 2025 that she would "refrain from prematurely celebrating about a ceasefire until Palestinian statehood is recognized", on the Facebook page where she posts daily news roundups. Nothing located has her taking a position on U.S. weapons or money for the government of Israel.

Deep Dive

Garcia is a Democratic candidate in Louisiana's 6th District. She launched her campaign in the 5th District earlier in 2026 and qualified in the 6th after the districts were redrawn. Before running she built a large audience as an online commentator: her Facebook page showed more than 700,000 followers when it was read for this card, and a profile of her campaign reports followings in the hundreds of thousands on Instagram and TikTok, first earned by speaking candidly about education and her students' conditions. Much of her page is daily news summaries, with sources posted in the comments; a summary of the day's headlines is not a position, and this card does not treat it as one.

Her own voice does reach this subject. On October 13, 2025, the day the last living Israeli hostages were released, she summarized the exchange and the war's toll, then closed: "IMHO; you will have to excuse me while I refrain from prematurely celebrating about a ceasefire until Palestinian statehood is recognized, and we're positive they won't turn what's left of Gaza into beachfront real estate." That ties her view of the ceasefire to recognition of Palestinian statehood, in her own words on her own page.

Two weeks earlier, after Prime Minister Netanyahu's United Nations address, she posted: "You should know that speech Netanyahu just gave, where everyone walked out; he broadcast it Live on loudspeakers in what is left of Gaza." And asked about foreign policy at a Baton Rouge candidate forum in May 2026, her answer was about constitutional process: Congress must restore checks and balances and rein in executive power, particularly through enforcement of the War Powers Act. That is a position about who decides, not about what is sent.

What is still missing is the money-and-weapons half. Nothing located, on her page or anywhere else checked, has her stating a position on U.S. weapons or money for the government of Israel, on U.S. aid to Palestinians as policy, or on lobbying groups active on these questions. Everything read for this card, and where it was found, is on this card's research page. You are better placed to complete the picture than we are. Ask Garcia directly, or at a candidate forum, and send us the reply: it goes on this page in her own words.

Research log

The notes behind this card: what we looked at, what we found, and where each item came from.

U.S. military aid and weapons to Israel

  • Nothing located in her own words. Her Facebook page was searched directly, signed in, on 2026-08-22 for posts mentioning military aid, weapons, and the American Israel Public Affairs Committee; the matches were her daily news-summary posts, not statements of her own position. Open-web searches found no statement either.
  • [Position, 2026-05-10] At a Baton Rouge forum, reported as the final stop of a Democratic roadshow. Opened and read in full. The account states: "The final questions turned to foreign policy and coalition-building." Her answer, verbatim from the report: "Garcia said Congress must restore checks and balances and rein in executive power, particularly through enforcement of the War Powers Act." A position on the allocation of war powers, not on transfers, and the card says so.

⚠ **Multi-candidate carrier, and the in-scope answer belongs to somebody else.** In the same paragraph the report says: "Nyman said she supports Ukraine but does not believe the U.S. should be involved in Iran or funding weapons for Israel's war in Gaza." That is a different candidate at the same forum, not on this ballot. A summarizing read of this page would very likely have attached that sentence to Garcia, because it sits one clause away from her name and is exactly the sentence this project looks for. It is not hers and it is not used.

U.S. aid to Palestinians

  • [Position, 2025-10-13] Her own page, read directly while signed in on 2026-08-22. The post opens by summarizing the day's exchange: twenty Israeli hostages released, 250 Palestinian prisoners and 1,718 detainees held without charge released, and continues with casualty and destruction figures for Gaza. It closes, verbatim: "IMHO; you will have to excuse me while I refrain from prematurely celebrating about a ceasefire until Palestinian statehood is recognized, and we're positive they won't turn what's left of Gaza into beachfront real estate. ~Ms. G, J.D." Her sourcing for the summary is a CNN link she posted in the comments. This statement had earlier been recorded here as unverifiable because the addresses supplied for it belonged to a broadcaster and an Israeli organization; the post has now been located on her own page and read in full, and the wrongly addressed copies are no longer needed.

Characterization of the conflict

  • [Position, 2025-09-26] Her own page, read directly on 2026-08-22, complete post: "You should know that speech Netanyahu just gave, where everyone walked out; he broadcast it Live on loudspeakers in what is left of Gaza." She posted a Guardian link for it in the comments.
  • [Reported in her news-summary register, 2025-09-26] A second post the same day summarizes the United Nations address in her daily-roundup format: delegates walked out in protest, "highlighting Israel's growing international isolation", and the Prime Minister's indirect flight to New York with the International Criminal Court warrants outstanding. A news summary with her framing, recorded as that rather than converted into a card position. Court actions are covered by this site's vote-context records and are not hand-typed onto cards in any case.
  • [Position, 2024-05-12] A Mother's Day letter on her own page, read in full: it opens "Dear Mothers of Gaza, Congo, Sudan, All of my Oppressed Sisters of the World" and runs on empathy and solidarity, with no policy content. The address earlier supplied for this item was a private individual's page and its date was wrong by seven weeks; the real post is hers.
  • [Topic-silent, 2025-09-29] The post earlier reported as commentary on shifting right-wing views of Israel and Gaza was read in full: "Even a broken clock is right twice a day" naming Candace Owens, Tucker Carlson, Nick Fuentes and Representative Greene. Her text names no subject at all; the Israel-and-Gaza reading appears only in her commenters' replies. It carries no position and is recorded so nobody re-reports it as one.
  • [Reaction window, 2023-11-12] A post beginning "On average, a child is being killed in Gaza every 10 minutes." seen in a signed-in page search. Inside the reaction window, so it stays out of the card summary. A November 4, 2023 video post sharing a broadcaster's questions sits in the same window.

Related rhetoric and lobbying

  • Nothing located in her own words. The signed-in page search for the American Israel Public Affairs Committee returned other pages' posts, not hers. An August 2026 item earlier offered under this heading sits on another politician's page and concerns corporate lobbying generally; it stays excluded.

Safety and antisemitism (context)

  • [Position, read 2026-08-20] Her campaign issues page sets out a public safety platform on violent crime, human trafficking, fentanyl, constitutional policing and civil and voting rights. Opened and read in full. Nothing on antisemitism and nothing in scope.

Where else the record was checked

  • [Consulted, read 2026-08-20] Her campaign site, its issues page and her biography page. All three opened and read in full. None mentions Israel, Gaza, Palestinians, foreign aid or military aid.
  • [Consulted, 2026-08-22] Open-web searches for her name with Israel, Gaza, ceasefire, foreign policy and related terms: her March 2026 campaign profile covers affordability, healthcare and justice with no foreign policy; coverage of the Gary Chambers endorsement likewise; August 2026 news coverage of her qualifying and her election-delay lawsuit carries nothing in scope. Two sitting members of Congress named Garcia produce most of the noise under this surname and none of it is hers.
  • [Consulted] Her Ballotpedia profile and coverage of qualifying were read for race context.
  • Her Instagram and TikTok accounts, reported to carry followings in the hundreds of thousands, are mostly video and were not systematically reviewed; nothing from them is claimed.

Race and status context

  • Qualified on Louisiana's certified list for the all-candidate November election in the 6th District, with a December runoff between the top two if nobody clears half the vote. Ten candidates are on the ballot in this district.
  • The forum recorded above was held while she was a candidate in the 5th District, before the districts were redrawn and she qualified in the 6th. The card describes it as a forum rather than implying it was in this district's race.
  • She has filed suit over the state's decision to delay the congressional elections; that is election-process litigation and carries no position in scope.
  • She has held no federal office, so there are no recorded votes on this card.
