But What Can You Do? tracks where 2026 candidates stand on U.S. weapons and funding for the government of Israel. How we check

How this mark works

We track key votes on sending U.S. weapons and money to the government of Israel. A check means every tracked vote they cast came down against sending more, on the side of peace and de-escalation. A question mark means a mixed record: they sided with sending up to half of the time. An X means they voted to send more weapons and money in over half of their tracked votes, even as the way those weapons and dollars were being used became more and more obvious. At exactly half, money this election cycle from a lobbying group we track, or an endorsement from a group that backs sending weapons, makes it an X. Only votes actually cast are counted. Where a candidate has no recorded votes on these bills, the mark comes instead from a reviewed reading of their public record (money from the lobbying groups we track, endorsements, and their own words since January 26, 2024). There an X also covers fully backing the conduct of the war by the government of Israel without significant reservations, and a question mark also covers speaking about Israel without saying clearly where they stand on U.S. weapons and funding. A dash means No Position Found: we found nothing in their own words about Israel, Gaza or the war.

See a dash? Ask the candidate where they stand, then send us their answer and we'll review it and update the mark. Or volunteer to help review candidates.

No recorded votes on the bills we track. We found nothing in their own words about Israel, Gaza or the war.

Nothing that opens has Miguez taking a position on U.S. weapons or money for the government of Israel, or on U.S. aid to Palestinians. A statement putting foreign conflicts second to domestic needs is reported on a page that does not open; his candidate survey is blank.

Deep Dive

Miguez is a Republican candidate in Louisiana's 6th District and has served in the Louisiana State Senate, after time in the state House.

What he is reported to have said is squarely in scope and cannot be read. A video posted in August 2025 is said to argue that the government is not taking care of its own people, and to set that against being pro-Palestine or pro-Ukraine, framed around putting America first. The address given for it is his own Facebook page, and Facebook answers none of our requests, so none of the wording is quoted here.

One state law is worth setting out precisely, because the bill is confirmed and his part in it is not. Louisiana House Bill 245 of 2019 authorizes a public entity to reject the lowest bid on a procurement contract when a vendor engages in a boycott of Israel, and it became law that June. He is reported to have co-authored it. The legislature's own page for the measure lists its authors alphabetically and truncates the list before his name would appear, and the tracking site cited for the claim refuses both of our routes, so the co-authorship is recorded as reported rather than confirmed.

Nothing located has him addressing weapons transfers, military funding or aid to Palestinians in words that can be read. What was checked to reach that conclusion is listed on this card's research page. You are better placed to get that answer than we are. Ask Miguez directly, or at a candidate forum, and send us the reply: it goes on this page in his own words.

Research log

The notes behind this card: what we looked at, what we found, and where each item came from.

U.S. military aid and weapons to Israel

  • Nothing located that opens.
  • [Reported 2025-08-06, unread carrier] A video on his own Facebook page is reported to carry: "Empty promises from career politicians won't save our country. Putting America First will... It's not Pro-Palestine. It's not Pro-Ukraine. Our government is not taking care of Its people". The address, https://www.facebook.com/blake.miguez/posts/empty-promises-from-career-politicians-wont-save-our-country-putting-america-fir/1295005932411586/, returns 400 to our requests. Written out here rather than linked; no wording is quoted anywhere on the card and nothing is claimed from it. Note also that the reported wording elides mid-passage, so even if it opened, the elided form would not be reproduced as continuous text.

U.S. aid to Palestinians

  • Nothing located that opens. The reported video above mentions Palestine only in the framing recorded there.

Characterization of the conflict

  • Nothing located that opens.

Related rhetoric and lobbying

  • [Prior, 2019-06-06] Louisiana House Bill 245 of 2019, enacted as Act 155. The bill itself is confirmed: the Louisiana Legislature's own record opens and describes it as "PROCUREMENT: Authorizes a public entity to reject the lowest bid on a procurement contract when a vendor engages in a boycott of Israel", with the status "Signed by the Governor - Act 155" and an effective date of 2019-06-06. Its primary author is a different legislator.

⚠ **His co-authorship is reported and NOT confirmed.** The legislature's page lists authors alphabetically and cuts off at "...More Authors..." before the letter M, and his surname does not appear anywhere in that page's source. The legislature's separate co-author endpoint returns Page Not Found for this bill. The carrier cited for the claim, https://legiscan.com/LA/bill/HB245/2019, returns 403. So the bill is a fact and his part in it is a report.

  • Nothing located on lobbying organizations or campaign funding.

Safety and antisemitism (context)

  • Nothing located under his name.
  • One item is recorded and explicitly NOT attributed to him: at a Louisiana House committee meeting in May 2020 on a resolution he had introduced, another legislator is reported to have compared pandemic enforcement to Nazi Germany, drawing criticism. The comparison was not his. No carrier was supplied for this at all. It is written here so that the association is not mistaken for a statement of his.

Where else the absence was checked

  • [Consulted, read 2026-08-20] His Ballotpedia profile. Opened; it records that he has not completed the 2026 candidate survey, and carries nothing in scope.
  • [Consulted, read 2026-08-20] Coverage of his entry into this district's race, dated 2026-08-07. Opens and names him; nothing in scope.
  • No campaign website was located for him, and none is recorded in our records. The own-site check the standing rule requires could not be run, which is recorded rather than passed over.

Race and status context

  • Qualified on Louisiana's certified list for the all-candidate November election in the 6th District, with a December runoff between the top two if nobody clears half the vote. Ten candidates are on the ballot in this district.
  • He has held no federal office, so there are no recorded votes on this card. His state legislative record is not a federal voting record and is not presented as one.
